Chapter 28 : Way back to Happiness
Finally, I truly wake up.
My dreams are all about Hiro and what will happen today. I thought I was already out at the park with Hiro, then I'll woke up, still in bed.
This time I'm sure this is real. I washed my face and I can feel the coldness of it against my face.
I check the time...8am. I still have few more hours.
I looked for some clothes. I don't know what to wear. I tried to grope for my clothes to know what is what. For the first time in my life, I worry about colors. What if I wear different colors that don't match?
I sighed. This is frustrating.
I smelled some noodles from the kitchen. I'm hungry.
I walked in the kitchen to find that my mother's still here.
"Good morning" I said.
"How long are you taking drugs?" my mom asked.
"What?" I asked surprised.
"I'm talking to you last night and you're just kept saying 'yes, yes'. Whatever I'm telling you, you just kept saying yes" she said sounding not interested with the subject at all. She hates talking to me.
"I don't take drugs" I said weakly.
"Look, I don't care if you're doing drugs or getting knock out just don't do it in my house" then she was gone.
Doesn't she really care at me at all?
No. I won't let this affect me. My first date with Hiro will be this afternoon, and I won't ruin it.
I just shoved the sadness that was given by my mom away and eat some noodles.
My mom can't live without me, if I don't cook, she'll die. Not literally die, but she can't really cook. So when I'm not home and didn't leave something for her to eat, she'll totally kill my ears and sometimes pull my hair. In the end she'll just get a hot water and eat noodles.
After eating, I wash the dishes. Angel can tell that something's up because I kept checking the time.
8:30am.
I don't know why but the time today is really slow.
I decided to bath Angel. After that she helped me choose what to wear. If the color is not the same, she'll bark. Finally I end up with jeans and a t-shirt. I checked the time...10:30am.
Good, I should take a bath now.
I borrowed mom's body wash that makes her skin smells good even after hours of work.
After shower I check the time...again. 11:17am.
Few more minutes.
I rush to my room with Angel following me.
I wore the t-shirt and jeans and Angel brought my shoes.
I sat at the living room, doing nothing and waiting for Hiro to come.
When I hear a motorcycle coming I'll immediately get behind the door, but when the motorcycle just passed, I'll go back to my sit.
It happened to me...3 times. Too excited?
I can hear another motorcycle...This time...I still stood up, and walked towards the door.
In just a few seconds the motorcycle's engine died. And I heard our doorbell ringing.
I opened the door smiling, and his scent embraced me. My heart starts beating wildly again.
"Hi" he said sounding nervous.
"Hi" I said returning the nervous tone.
"Is Angel coming with us?" he asked.
"N-no, she's staying here" After I said that Angel starts whimpering.
I get down on my knees beside her. "I'm sorry girl, you can't come. Don't worry, I'll buy you some treats"
I got up and closed the door leaving a whimpering Angel.
"Are you sure it's okay to leave her there alone?" Hiro asked.
"Yes" I said awkwardly.
I think I'm going to be sick. Like everything's out of my hand, even how I walk and talk. Mom's right, it feels like I'm on drugs.
"Ok, let's go" he said with his usual tone.
"O-okay" I said then we walked toward his bike.
"Here" he said handing me a helmet.
"But...You won't have one" I said holding it back.
"Don't worry" he said. From his voice, I can imagine he's smiling.
I also smiled and put the helmet on.
When we're both on the bike I asked him "Where are we going?"
"Maybe eat lunch, I'm still not eating. You?" he asked.
"Me too" I said.
"Okay, let's go" he said then started the bike.
While we're on the road and holding Hiro's shirt at the back, I inhaled his scent. This time, it feels like it's not telling me goodbye, but hello. I can't do anything but smile.
A sudden break made my head flew forward.
The helmet I'm wearing hit Hiro's head and I almost fell from the bike.
"Sorry" he apologized. "I'm not used to having a girl riding with me" then he let out a small laugh.
"I'm sorry" I whispered.
"No, no. It's okay. Just hold on tight" he said making me hug his back and rode off.
I can feel that my smile will soon reach my ears. I can't stop smiling. I can feel Hiro's muscle at the back and his abs. He must be working out, or this could be the result of being part of a fraternity.
This time we slowed down until we stopped.
"We're here" Hiro said.
He let me get down first then he parked the bike. Then he laughed.
"Why?" I asked confused.
"Do you love my helmet that much?" he asked between his laughs.
I can feel my face heating. I didn't notice I'm still wearing it!
I immediately turn back and took the helmet off. I hand it to him but I didn't turn around.
He took it and placed it at the bike. He walked in front of me and faced me. He laughed harder.
Maybe my whole face is red. I quickly covered it with my hands and lowered my head. This is embarrassing!
"Cute" Hiro said, amused.
He grabbed my hands and pulled it downward so that it won't cover my face.
"All red, like a tomato" he said then laughed again.
I frowned and tried to cover my face again but Hiro catch my hands.
"Okay, sorry" He said but he's still laughing.

"Okay, sorry sorry. I'll stop now" he said trying to stop his laughs. "Let's go inside. I'm hungry" then he let my one hand go and he just held the other one pulling me forward.
"Wait, my face" I said trying to pull him to stop.
He stopped walking and faced me. He leaned forward until I could feel his breath in my face. "It's beautiful"
My face started to get warm again.
I turned my face away "Don't do that"
He laughed a small laugh. "Sorry, let's just say you tried a bottle of beer that's why you look like a tomato".
I smiled then this time he didn't pull me and we just walked side by side, holding hands.
"Oh, Hiro! You're back! Perfect for lunch" said a woman with a sexy voice.
"Yeah, I'm really hungry. Is lunch ready?" Hiro asked.
Lunch ready? Where are we?
"Yeah, Jeff's almost done. And who's this cute girl?" the woman asked.
"Oh, sorry. Jing, this is Mikaela. Mikaela this is Jing, She's a member of the frat and kicked many guy's ass" he said amused.
I heard a light punch.
"Don't scare her" Jing said.
They both laugh.
"Come on in" she said.
We all walked inside. Her house smells like...spaghetti.
"Hon! Hiro is here" Jing shouted.
"Again?" I heard a man with a husky voice from afar.
After a few seconds that man entered the room.
"Here to eat again? I told you get a wife or something already!" he shouted.
I back up but Hiro just held my hand and not moving.
"I think she finally found one dear" Jing teased.
"I can see that. Is she a good cook?" Jeff also teased.
I lowered my head. I can cook, but I don't know if I'm a good cook.
Hiro just laughed. "Mika, this is Jeff. He's Jing's husband. He's also part of the frat"
"Wow, you must really like her to bring her and introduce us to her" Jeff teased. "Hey Mika, good luck with Hiro. He's a big pain in the ass"
"Shut up! Where's the food?" Hiro asked.
"Look at this child, no respect to his seniors. It's almost ready" Jeff said then he left the room.
"I'm going to help him, stay here" Hiro said then he left.
"You can take your sunglasses off. Come, let's chat for a while" Jing said.
"I can't" I said, embarrassed.
"Why not? Do you have a sore eyes or something?" Jing asked walking towards me.
"No, I'm....I'm blind" I said lowering my head.
"Oh...sorry about that. Here, let me help you" she said guiding me to the sofa.
"So, when did you two meet?" Jing asked and sat beside me.
"At school, he's my last period classmate" I said shyly.
"Feel comfortable with me" she said kindly.
I smiled. Her voice is how I imagined my mom would sound like if Dad didn't die because of me.
"So...you must be special" Jing said.
"Because I'm blind?" I asked shyly.
Jing laughed. "No, not that. Because you're the first girl Hiro brought here"
"I am?" I asked, surprised.
"Yes, I know he's a player, but my husband and I forbid him to bring a girl he just hooked up with somewhere, unless she's special" she said.
"Really?" I asked lowering my head, afraid that I'm turning red again.
"Yes. Can I ask you a favor?" she asked kindly.
"S-sure" I said.
"I know he have a bad reputation in girls at school or some other places but he's a really good boy. He just felt lonely that's why he's like that. He lives alone. His father and mother are dead and his older brother abandoned him and just sends him money. When we found him, he's just a gangster boy beating other people just for fun" Jing stopped. Looks like the memories are too hard for her. She must really love Hiro.
Jing sighed and continued. "We we're shocked when we found out that he's a member of our fraternity. It looks like he's from a rich and powerful family even though he looks like a poor kid from an orphanage. His face is like an Angel's but his eyes are full of hatred and pain. But when he looks at you, I can finally see the Hiro before we met him. When he smiles, his eyes also smiles. His whole face brightened up. I never saw him this happy."
"So I'm asking you..." she said and held both my hands "I know it could go more difficult, but please...I'm asking this as his family...Don't let go. You could be his way back to happiness"
She pressed her warm hands to mine. I smiled and nodded.
"Thank you" she whispered.
"Lunch is ready!" I heard Hiro shouted from the other room.
"And he never EVER helped us cook until now" Jing said standing up.
She took my hand "Let's go"
