Chapter 2- Servius’s Point of View

Okay, I’ll admit, I was a jerk. Not entirely my fault. Being the rich spoiled brat I was... Whatever. I had been raised by a member of the King’s Inner Council, Gracelin D’Rogis, but he wasn’t my father. My father had sacrificed himself to stop a conspiracy against the king before I was born, and my mother remarried to Gracelin. I was raised in my house, with minimal contact with the outside world. I spent the time I had learning to use two swords from Swordmaster William. He was a former soldier in the King’s army, until he retired. I had spent most of my life learning that elves can’t be trusted, since Gracelin was the one on the council most opposed to a human-elf alliance. I guess everything he told me might not be true.

“So what do you do?” I asked Scarlett. She glared at me. Baurindriel had already told her about me in the first few seconds, so now two people hated me. The two people who seemed to actually have a brain. Most of my followers were complete airheads, and my followers were most people my age.

“I’m a mage,” She told me, and then went back to talking to Baurindriel. A mage, huh? Magic wasn’t very common, and it wasn’t very powerful. It was mostly used to support teammates. Suddenly, Headmaster Vaughn returned, someone I knew very well at his side. Each team was made of up four members, specifically, a mage, archer, fighter, and tank. I would be the fighter, Scarlett is the mage, and Baurindriel is the archer. Leaving this person, whose name was Izuk as I already knew, to be the tank. He was probably the only one of the people I respected, at least where my age is concerned. We also were going to have an instructor, who guided us, but we wouldn’t know who he was for a while.

“This is Izuk Saifor,” Headmaster Vaughn said. Izuk was big and broad, most of which was muscle. He wielded a mace with a shield to provide more defense, since that was his job.

“Hey Serv,” He said, nodding to me. He looked at Baurindriel and shrugged, and nodded to Scarlett. He sat down next to me, and soon we saw Headmaster Vaughn forming other teams.

“So why are you here?” Izuk asked Baurindriel. She thoughtfully ignored him.

“Dude, don’t bother, she already hates us,” I muttered to him. Izuk sighed heavily.

“You really are socially inadequate Serv,” He told me.

“Says the tank...” I muttered. He raised an eyebrow at that, but said nothing. Suddenly, Headmaster Vaughn stood at a podium in the front of the room.

“Hello everybody... I realize that you all believe that you are the greatest warriors to walk the planet, and that a lot of you are here simply because your parents are rich. This test will siphon out the ones who don’t belong. Good luck,” He said. Suddenly, a massive wave of confusion spread over the crowd of students, and we were all in a different place.

“What just happened?!?” Izuk shouted, pulling out his mace.

“Vaughn is the most accomplished wizard of all time, of course he knows how to teleport us...” I said. I looked up and took in our surroundings. We were in a clearing, and the area around us was heavily overgrown.

“What is this?” Scarlett asked.

“Well, Mr. Genius?” Baurindriel asked me.

“It seems to be a test of working together. If we fail, we get kicked out,” I told them. Suddenly, three monsters appeared from the trees around us.

“Polybears!” Baurindriel and I shouted at the same time. Apparently she knew her monsters too.

“Why are they called... Five bears?” Izuk asked.

“There are five different abilities that they have. These three all have fire breath!” Scarlett said.

“The test is to not burn down the forest and defeat them at the same time,” I said. Quickly Izuk took point and I stood behind him, to get ready to charge the bears.
