My Boyfriend's Brother Pt. 2
{Grant x Reader}
requested

The days flew by, the three of us spending nearly every second together. I felt like I was in high school again, messing around and hanging out with my best friends. If there wasn't still outside worries of life, it would've really been like those old times. It was a week before Christmas, but Grant was leaving tomorrow for whatever celebrities do for near Christmas, and returning again on Christmas Eve.

After that first night, things fell into a normalcy, my friendship growing with Grant tremendously. I could understood why Tyler adored his brother so much. He was goofy, sweet, and not afraid to make a total idiot of himself, which was entertaining.

I had just pulled into Tyler's driveway, ready for our second and last Christmas movie night. Grant and I had pleaded with Tyler for another one for Grant's last night, to which he reluctantly agreed.

I didn't knock on the door, but instead just stepped inside this time. "Tyler? Grant?" I called out, taking off my jacket and setting down my purse.

Grant appeared in the hallway first, wearing a big smile and holding a mug of something hot. I saw Tyler trudge behind him, noticing that he clutched a box of tissues. I raised my eyebrows at the two, seeing the stark contrast of Grant's beaming energy and Tyler's tired, red eyes.

"Tyler? Are you okay?" I asked, pushing past Grant and heading for my boyfriend.

Tyler sniffled and hung his head, "I've got a cold." I frowned, bringing a hand to his cheek, feeling the heat radiating from his skin.

"I see that," I sighed. "Did you take any medicine? Have you been getting enough rest? Are you drinking lots of water?" I pulled my hand away, staring up at him.

"Yes," he said.

"No," Grant said at the same time.

I looked over my shoulder at Grant, who was sipping his mug casually like he hadn't spoken. Narrowing my eyes, I glanced at Tyler again and started ushering him back down the hall. I had him rest on the couch while I got some medicine for a probable headache and a glass of water. As he swallowed the pills, Grant reappeared in the living room, wearing a jacket and his drink now inside a travel mug.

"Guys, we've got go outside," Grant smiled cheerfully. "Come on."

"Your brother's over here dying and you want to take him outside?" I questioned, shaking my head at Grant.

Grant smiled sheepishly, "It's snowing."

My eyes lit up. I absolutely loved taking walks on a snowy night, something that Tyler hated doing. I looked over to him, as he rolled his eyes and sighed. "You guys can go," he mumbled, "I wouldn't want to go anyway." He pulled a blanket around him, his eyes fluttering shut.

I looked to Grant who was grinning like a fool. "Come on, come on," he laughed, slipping out of the door. I followed him, and quickly threw on my coat and boots.

The snow was falling, white fluff against the darkness of the night, illuminated by the gentle glow of streetlights. We walked through the silence, nothing but the sound of our boots crunching beneath us to fill the air.

"Tyler never goes on walks through the snow with me," I sighed, breaking the quiet. "I think it's beautiful, and he just thinks it's cold." I laughed quietly to myself, but a slight disappointment filled my heart. It was always romantic, but here I was, without my boyfriend.

"You guys don't have a lot in common, huh?" Grant asked.

I kept my gaze locked on the road ahead of us, although I was a little surprised by Grant's words. "I mean..." I trailed off, an epiphany overcoming me. "I guess not."

Grant was quiet as we continued down our path, alone with the falling snow.

"That's not bad, though," I said, "Differences are good. It keeps things fun."

"Fun?" Grant questioned. I could feel his eyes on me, but I didn't want to look back at him. I felt sort of attacked by his questions. It wasn't necessarily his business, nor did it really concern him on how much Tyler and I had in common. "I can hear you guys fighting when you think I'm not around, Y/N."

My gaze dropped to my boots. I hadn't realized we were so obvious. "I'm sorry," I murmured, not sure of what else to say.

"Don't be sorry," Grant sighed. "If anything, I should be sorry." I finally looked at him, confusion filling my thoughts.

"You haven't done anything." I watched as his green eyes scanned my face. I didn't know what he was looking for.

"I'm sorry because I'm about to be honest." His voice was quiet and shaky, something I wasn't used to hearing in him. Grant had always been a very confident person, something that I assumed came with being a performer. "Y/N... I... I have feelings for you. I always have, ever since Tyler introduced us before you two even started dating. I know it's wrong - you're my brother's girlfriend. But seeing you two fight, knowing that you're both really unhappy underneath, it's killing me. For both of your sakes. I love my brother... and I care about you. You are amazing, Y/N. I've always known that. And you deserve to be happy." Somewhere through his words, we had stopped walking and were now facing each other. The snow fell between us, but did nothing to obstruct my view from his sad, honest face.

"Grant..." I whispered, not even sure where to start. How could he do this to me? We were friends, I was his brother's girlfriend, and he just thrusted his feelings at me. I took a step back slowly. "I... I don't know what to say."

Grant nodded. "I didn't expect you to."

"You're great, Grant, you really are," I sighed, "But he's my boyfriend." I turned my back to him, starting back to Tyler's house. I didn't know a simple walk would be such a mistake.

"I know that, and I know you care about him," I could hear Grant saying behind me,
"That's why I won't tell him or do anything about it. I just had to be honest." I kept walking, my pace quickening, even though I knew he would be following closely. My feelings were all jumbled, my emotions not sure which way to fall. Anger? Confusion? Sadness?

- - -

I forced myself out of bed, knowing that it was Grant's last day in town and I was obligated to spend it with him and Tyler. After last night's catastrophe inside of Grant's truths, I wanted to think of any reason to distance myself from the brothers today. But a small part of me knew I wanted a chance to say goodbye to him. He was still my friend. And Tyler didn't know about anything from last night's walk.

I stood inside Tyler's kitchen now, my hands planted firmly on the counter I leaned over. Tyler was going on about something I wish he wouldn't.

"You're always late," he was mumbling, "And I swear, if you're late to Christmas Eve dinner, my family's going to target me. So just do me a favor for once and don't ruin things with your lack of time management." He was pacing back and forth through the kitchen angrily, but I couldn't stayed focused on his words. I pictured Grant in the guest room, overhearing every word of his brother's.

"I'm never late to important events," I said, spinning around and glaring at him. "And your family likes me, Tyler. There's nothing to worry about."

"Oh, and there you go," he accused, his volume growing louder, "Just believing that everything's going to be fine! That's bull, Y/N! You know that! Not everything's going to be alright just because you say so!"

I felt tears welling in my eyes. I heard Grant's words play over in my mind, words I wasn't sure if I wanted to remember right now.

Before anyone could say something more, Grant stepped into the kitchen. His expression read nothing, as if he hadn't heard our argument.

"Hey," he said awkwardly, smiling at us.

"Morning," Tyler mumbled, shifting under his brother's blank stare.

"Do you guys want to go get breakfast?" Grant asked innocently. "I mean like, all
of us? You know? Just doing what friends do. Or like, boyfriend and girlfriend. Cause you guys are. Yeah." He cleared his throat, swaying on his feet. Tyler and I watched him as he rambled, creating a whole different kind of tension in the room.

"Why are you acting so weird?" Tyler asked.

"I always act weird," Grant shrugged. He pursed his lips together, glancing back and forth between us.

"Right," Tyler sighed, "Fine, yeah. Let me get my shoes." He walked off, leaving Grant and I alone in the kitchen. Grant moved quickly toward me, his eyebrows furrowed.

"I'm sorry he talked to you like that," he said quietly, looking down at me.

"It's not your fault." I said flatly, turning away. Grant's hand reached out taking hold of my arm. I looked at him, waiting for whatever honesty he was going spit out this time.

"No," he sighed, "It's not. But eventually you guys are going to stop letting yourselves get hurt. And when that happens, I'll be waiting."

My eyes widened, staring at him in disbelief. "You're calling our breakup? And saying you're going to wait for your brother's girlfriend? You're insane."

Grant's hand dropped as he sighed in defeat.

"And I like it." My mouth curled into a smirk, shaking my head at the foolish, charming guy in front of me.

"I know you guys need time," Grant nodded, his eyes going wide in shock. "And please, take all the time you need, Y/N. But if you ever want to try, I'll be waiting."

I sighed loudly, leaving Grant alone in the kitchen with nothing but his shock. I walked away, shock inside of me, too. Tyler and I might work out, or it might end in a disaster. Grant pining after me might be the worst thing in this mess, but it didn't matter right now. We just had to take things one step at a time, slowly for once.
