Chapter Eighteen: The Prisoner of Azkaban

"May I?" I nodded and he took a seat next to me in the snow.
"You never told me how you did on your finals last year." he smirked a little.
"Sorry, I was really busy over the summer. I was helping out at the The Leaky Cauldron."
"What would you be doing there?" he said smug.
"Oh, I was helping out with housekeeping. The minister said they were running low on workers." I smiled. It got kind of awkward after that and we just sat there completely silent.
"Well- um, I think I am going to head back to the castle." I got up and brushed my jeans and jumper off.
"Wait," Draco spun me around.
"What are-" I felt warm lips appear onto my cold ones. I was hesitant at first but I started to relax into the kiss. Once he pulled away, we locked eye contact.
"Draco," I breathed.
"I have been waiting all summer to do that." he chuckled a little bit. I was still shocked at what events just occurred.
"I better g-go back to the castle." I studdered as I quickly turned my heel and sprinted to the castle. Once I got up to the castle, I slid down the wall of the common room door.
"Woah, what just happened?" I muttered to myself. This can't happen, he is a jerk to my friends and not to mention, he's a slytherin. Nobody has ever heard of a Gryffindor and Slytherin couple.
"Maddie, you're back." Harry smiled.
"Y-yeah, hey Harry." I smiled and his face changed.
"Is something wrong?" I shook my head.
"Just a little cold, that's all." he helped me up into a blanket. Harry couldn't know what just happened, nobody could.
"Thanks." I smiled and he nodded.
"What did you do while we were at Hogsmeade?" I got up and brought the blanket over to the couch next to him.
"Professor Lupin taught me a few tricks since- well, you know." I nodded. It was good Harry had a few spells he could use for protection, especially since he now had Voldemort and Black on his tracks.
"That was nice of him." he nodded as Ron and Hermione skipped in laughing.
"How'd the hearing go, Hagrid." I said, sitting down on a rock by the water Hagrid was skipping rocks in.
"Well, first the committee asked why we were there. Then, I explained he was a good hippogriff, always cleaned his feathers." Hagrid threw another rock.
"Then Lucius Malfoy stood up, all know what good comes out of that."
"Then what?" I looked back at Hermione.
"They're not sacking you, are they?" Ron stepped up next to me.
"No they're not sacking me." he stopped.
"Buckbeak's been sentenced to death!" he cried and I gasped. It wasn't his fault, it was Malfoy's.
"I'm sorry, Hagrid." I muttered.
"Oh Madeline. It's not your fault, there was nothing you could have done." I looked down and couldn't help but feel awful.
I sat down in the red chair amongst the common room.
"Madeline, it's really not your fault. Don't be down about it." Ron sat next to me and I shrugged.
"I know, but I have this feeling. Ron," I moved over so he could sit. "don't you think it could have been prevented? Somehow." I took a deep breath and moved the blanket up to my arms. I moved a stand of my red curly hair out of my face.
"Maybe," he sat. I could tell he was exhausted.
"Ron, why don't you head to bed. You look exhausted."
"But-"
"I'll be fine," I smiled. "I promise." He pulled me into a tight hug and waved me. Dinner was going to begin in about 5 minutes. I shoved my black hair tie onto my wrist as I made my way to dinner.'
"Ron never skips dinner." Harry piles a few chicken drumsticks onto his plate. Hermione shifted uncomfortably and I remembered the last time Ron skipped dinner. I believe it was a misunderstanding because I haven't seen Ron with her since.
"He was really tired though, he went to sleep shortly before I left." they nodded and we continued dinner. I pushed my food around on my plate.
"Madeline, you really should eat." Harry nudged my shoulder gently.
"I'm not really hungry." my stomach groaned. Harry gave me a look of disbelief.
"Fine, maybe a little." I put a feel briskets onto my plate along with some potatoes.
"So Harry," Hermione took a sip of Pumpkin juice. "how's your arm feeling?"
"It's alright," he shrugged and pushed his plate away.
"Well, I'm finished." he yawned and I stood.
"I am too." Hermione and Ron cleared their spots, following us.
"Madeline, are you coming down to Hagrid's?" Ginny shook me awake. I nodded and fixed up.
"Thanks for waking me Ginny."
She nodded and patted me on the back, "Yeah, now you better hurry along. They are leaving soon." I brushed out my hair and ran out to the common room.
"Finally." Ron muttered. Everyone was glum.
"I can't believe they get to kill Buckbeak. This is Malfoy's fault." Hermione's knuckles went white. I nodded and we made our way to Hagrid's.
"It's just too horrible." Hermione muttered.
"It just got worse." Ron said with worry visible in his eyes. We looked out of the entrance to see Malfoy and his two shadows.
Hermione started walking towards him angrily.
"Ah, come to see the show!" Draco said a little too cheerful.
"You," she shouted full of hate. "you foul loathsome, evil, little cockroach." She pointed her wand right at his neck.
"Hermione, no!" I shouted.
"He's not worth it." she lowered her wand, setting it in her pocket. Draco started laughing and she turned around, jagging Draco right in the nose.
"That was magnificent!" Harry smiled.
"He'll feel that blow for days!" I smiled.
"It felt good."
"Look at him, he loves the wind blowing through his feathers." Hagrid said as we stood in front of the window.
"I can't believe they are killing him for such nonsense." I balled up my fists
"I'm glad you guys are here. Dumbledore says he wants to be here with me when- it happens." Hagrid took a deep breath.
"Oh, speaking of. You guys probably should head back now. They'll be here any minute." I saw a few people hurry down the hill towards us.
"Not any minute," I gulped. "more like second." They all looked towards the school.
"That's not good. Ron, take him." Hagrid went into a small bin and pulled out a small animal.
"Scabbers." he smiled.
"I believe you owe someone an apology." Ron glared.
"Yeah, I'll tell that bloody cat I'm sorry the next time I see him!"
"I was talking about me." Hermione lunged forward. Something broke a vase right next to her.
"Blimey, what was that!" Hermione lifted up a small rock. Another hit Harry in the head as he screamed out in pain.
"It's late, nearly dark!" he rushed everyone out the back.
"I'll be fine." we jumped out the back. I ran towards Buckbeak, trying to undo the chain while the rest of them hid in the forest.
"Madeline, are you crazy?" I heard someone yell. When I couldn't get it unclipped, I ran back to them.
"I'm sorry, Maddie." I nodded and saw them come out. We ran back up the hill and we watched Buckbeak. I heard a heart-wrenching sound before I put my head into Harry's neck.
"Ow!" Ron screamed.
"He bit me." I looked at the rat who was now running.
"Scabbers, come back!" Ron sprinted after him.
"Ron, wait!" we all ran up.
"Harry, Hermione, you do realize what tree this is." I gulped.
"Ron," he looked back. "run!" Harry shouted and Ron looked right past us with a scared look on his face.
"Guys, run!" he shouted. I turned slowly around and saw a dark black dog, the same one we saw in Harry's glass. I backed up slowly as it came towards me. Ron grabbed Scabbers and hid behind a rock.
"Nice doggy." I laughed awkwardly.
The Grim started sprinting towards me and I tried to run. It grabbed me by the ankle and started to pull me into the willow. I screamed as it bit me in the leg.
"Maddie!" Harry shouted.
"Harry, Ron, Hermione! Help!" I screamed and gripped at the ground. Tears started spilling out my eyes and my stomach wrenched with worry. Harry jumped for my hand but missed.
"Help!" I screamed once more before being wrenched into the hole. The wolf pulled me into a dark room and left me in a corner. I pulled my jeans up slightly to see my ankle. Tears continued to pour out of my eyes as I heard screams of my friends. I shouted for help but nobody could hear me. Blood poured out my bite and it stung.
I heard footsteps come along and saw a figure behind a door.
"Please, please don't hurt me." I cried and they stepped closer. I heard more footsteps.
"Madeline!" Hermione shouted and ran towards me.
"Hermione, Harry, Ron! It's a trap, he's an animagous." I cried. They all turned. Sirius Black stood behind the door.
He stepped towards us and Hermione stood in front of Harry. Ron bent down to help me.
"If you want to kill him, you have to kill us too." I widened my eyes as Ron helped me up.
"No, only one will die tonight." Harry lunged towards Sirius, pinning him on the ground. The door threw open and Lupin disarmed Harry.
"What are you doing?" Hermione yelled and took Harry back.
Lupin pulled Sirius into a hug and I started to cry harder.
"We trusted you!" I screamed at him. Lupin is a werewolf!
"Let's kill him," Sirius shouted but Lupin held him back. "I did my waiting, 12 years in Azkaban!"
"You betrayed my parents!" Harry yelled at Sirius.
"No, it was someone else." Professor Lupin.
"Someone I know until quite recently I knew to be dead." Lupin smiled.
"Pettigrew." I cried.
"Yes, he's right there!" Sirius pointed a dirty finger to Scabbers.
"Scabbers, he's a rat. He couldn't have done it." Ron argued.
"He's been in our family for-" I tried.
"12 years."
"Expelliarmus!" Professor Snape ran in and pointed his wand at Sirius. He nudged his head towards the door. I lifted my foot to move and Harry threw a spell at him, throwing him onto the old bed.
"Harry, what did you just do?" I shouted.
All these characters belong to J.K. Rowling. All credit goes to her for some of the plot and all of setting (characters, etc.) I made Maddie Weasley, that is it. I am just a girl who wants to write fanfictions.
Extra, Extra, Extra, Long chapter! Almost 2,000 words! This was a long, detailed part. I finally cut it off, which was very hard. Thanks for reading!
