"In two-thousand-and-nine, a report showed that 275,000 Britons disappeared," Our own personal hell and official guardian instructor spoke out. It was a seminar on the importance of guarding a 'special one'.

I know what you're thinking: a special one? I asked the same thing. The answer: apparently, when this place was created, in two-thousand-and-nine, the date specifically the thirteenth of November, all of the people who helped in the establishment wrote diaries to document the procedure of making 'The Safe Haven' — cliché and probably a lie—but according to our teacher, they nicknamed these endangered people, ageing from birth to the age of their death, 'special ones'.

Their sadistic logic is that when a person is being hunted down every second of their lives with paper thin, sharply pointed machetes and furiously firing machine guns, they instantly become special. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have money thrown at me every second of my life, not my forthcoming death.

As well as this logic, we have the name of the academy: Zasolnište. The name is Macedonian because apparently, the many leaders from the many five countries thought it was unfair to choose just one of their languages: English, Swedish, German, Spanish and Icelandic, so they chose a completely irrelevant one to represent their act of kindness on the world to guard vulnerable people. Great logic.

I'm sorry, but school was more educational than this. Not that I'm complaining, though, at least I'm not being fed tinned baked beans and expected to fight—kill—my inmates in a thunderstorm. It was torture; taken from my hometown and put to work on the cliffs of hell. What I don't understand is how on earth are these kids expected to want to go to this Academy anyway? Sure they are promised protection but they have to leave everything behind. Just like I had to. And I didn't like it much.

"From two-thousand-and-ten and two-thousand-and-eleven, this number decreased to 216,00 individuals," The man continued to inform us, dressed in a uniform you'd expect any usual police officer to sport. Except, he isn't any usual police officer, no, this is a member from the academy's own police force. Somehow, this well thought out place has been hidden from the rest of society for quite a while, God knows how with the indefinite list of places and things they have stacked away. Did you know they even have their own court? What are people going to do? Pretend to be a 'special one'? Additionally, they even have doctors, police officers, lawyers, etc out there in the real world that work for the Academy. This place is damn crafty.

"The only reason this number started to decrease was because of the ongoing development of Academies just like this, and at our latest seminar we learnt that there are only five of these securities around the world, protecting those special individuals from certain captivity," The officer continued to inform us before a bout of laughter was to be heard. I frowned, why is everyone laughing? Then, upon looking up, I saw a picture of myself, and a snippet of a police report that was written on my case. The case that explains that I was ripped from my home, but didn't appear to mention the lack of humanity, the lack of food, of sleep. The lack of everything and anything. It was a tortuous hardship that still burdens me. Hell, it hasn't even been that long since I was rescued.

"They actually thought you were a 'special one'?" Some boy behind me asked and laughed. More laughter followed and I lost it then and there. I jumped up, my chair hitting the ground behind me as I banged my fists on the table.

"If you had been observant you'd know I was not treated like a 'special one'." I seethed and a couple of his friends laughed.

"Why would I want to listen to your life story?" He retorted and I just about threw myself at him when the police officer—and our tutor—spoke up.

"Bernard!" He shouted and the boy cringed at what I could only imagine was the mention of his name. "What are you even doing here? You're a 'special one'." The officer continued to shout at him and I snickered behind my hand.

Bernard—Bert—glared at me before collecting his stuff and standing up, "I was only here to see how the training was going, I don't want to end up with a useless guardian." He told our tutor with a cold and harsh tone and I felt as the whole room went silent, probably offended that he'd stoop to the level of having to check if our standards were good and efficient enough to keep his snobby arse from harm.

"Well, in that case, you can have Jameson as a guardian, he is much more advanced than anyone else here." My jaw fell at the unwanted opportunity that just opened up to me. Guardian? I'm only twelve! What am I supposed to do? Tie his shoelaces for him?

"No!" Both Bert and I shouted at the same time before glaring at each other in both annoyance and shock at our sudden synchronisation.

"No arguing. Jameson, this will be a good experience for you, help you to adjust like your classmates already have; you're still new." The stupid arse man continued feeding me my screwed up life on a silver platter. I kept these views to myself for, a true guardian wouldn't fight an unnecessary battle, they would do what they had to do: their job. This was my job. I'm not ready, but I have to be. I will be.
I can do this. I will do this.

I looked over at Bert, who too had realised we had lost the battle. Being more mature than I realised he was capable, he let out nothing but an audible huff before leaving the room. I reluctantly followed after him, thinking about the day that will eventually come. The day I'll be an actual guardian. With an actually assigned 'special one'. It'll be official, and I'll do the best job anyone would have ever known. Someday. One day. It will happen. And I can do it. I will do it.

Okay so

Yeah I don't know what to say

My name is Chloe and I wrote this prologue ha lol okay update soon.

In all seriousness, this is my first book in a while and it is not based off anything that has been created by someone else, unlike my other books—I have created this world myself.

I would appreciate my ideas kept as mine; don't copyright.

Idk if anyone actually would.

I'll update the first chapter whenever it's necessary, I kind of fuel off what people say so if people say they want it soon then it'll be up within the next week.

Also, the book is not always written in this POV, it is only for this chapter.

I don't know what else to say, so like bye.

(Great at formalities)
