wednesday.

"i am so not stuffing that in my mouth."

andie shoved his hands away as he tried to make her taste a new smoothie flavor.

"come on, it's not exactly going to kill you." he laughed, taking a few steps closer so that she was stuck between him and the counter.

"i'm serious, that looks bloody disgusting and smells really bad." she continued rejecting, pressing her lips together tightly.

"just give it a try, andie." he whined, still holding the cup.

"no, jake." she said, grabbing the cup from him and pouring the liquor in the sink. "and don't give me that puppy face, it doesn't help."

jake rolled his eyes and grabbed a cookie from the bowl. he watched her clean up his mess and gazed out the window.

"we should go out, it's hot in here and the weather is amazing right now." he pointed out, nudging her leg with his foot.

andie wiped her hands dry before turning around and facing him. she smiled over how much of a bunny he resembled while eating that cookie, and puckered her lips.

"alright. the park or the beach?" she asked, folding her arms.

"the beach. i want to see you in a bikini." he joked and wiggled his eyebrows, earning a scoff leaving her throat.

"you're disgusting." she stated before moving towards the hallway.

"i'm well aware of that." jake laughed, leaning against the wall.

"see you at the beach in thirty minutes. don't be late." andie said severely and put on her shoes.

since jake lived in the same apartment building as her, it only took her five minutes to get back home and replace her underwear with a bikini. she dressed on her father's oversized t-shirt and entered crystal's room.

"hey." crystal smiled softly.

"hi." andie smiled back and pursed her lips for a split second. "i'm going to the beach. do you want to come?"

"really?" crystal grinned as her eyes lit up with happiness. "yes, i'd love to!"

"of course." andie laughed and watched as her little sister searched for her bikini. "i hate leaving you home when i go out."

"i can't find my bikini." crystal whined, rummaging through her warderobe.

andie laughed before standing side by side with her sister, instantly finding her bikini underneath a top. crystal smiled sheepishly and took the bikini, disappeared into the bathroom to change. when she was done, she returned back to her older sister and tugged on her hand.

andie smirked as she left the apartment again, this time holding crystal's hand and two towels in her other hand, and smiled when a breeze pushed her hair behind her shoulders.

they arrived at the beach a few minutes later, which thankfully wasn't full of people. andie put the towels on the sand carefully and sat down on one of them. crystal mirrored her action and sat cross-legged.

"so..." andie started, immediately being in lack of words to say. "how's school?"

"it's okay. amber's nicer now and wants to hang out more. oh, and i love it when calum comes and picks me up!" crystal responded, pulling her legs up against her body and held them with her arms.

"wait, who's amber?" andie asked, feeling awful for having to ask that.

"she goes in my class. for a while she was a bit down and didn't hang out with anyone much. but i think she's happier now. you've picked me up from her once i think." crystal explained incoherently.

"she's the brunette, right? the one who lives in the city?" andie asked to remember, and crystal nodded with a smile on her lips.

fifteen minutes later, when crystal and andie were in the middle of an argument whether blue or purple hair is the coolest, jake joined them and poked andie's upper arm.

"sorry i'm—"

"—late." andie finished for him, smirking, and raised her eyebrows.

"yeah." he chuckled and smiled to crystal. "hey. do you remember me?"

crystal squinted with her eyes in concentration and her whole face scrunched up until she did remember him.

"a little. barely." she giggled and rested her chin against her arms.

"barely is better than not at all." jake smiled satisfied, but it faded slowly once he peeked behind crystal's shoulder. "andie." he mumbled, nudging her.

"what?" she asked as she followed his gaze with her eyes. she felt a sudden sort of energy rush through her when she saw luke walking a few meters away from them, along with michael.

"convenient." jake smirked and shook his head at the ground. crystal became curious herself, so she turned her head around with a frown.

"what?" she asked and gazed back at them.

"it's just two people from my school." andie mumbled and fixed her hair quickly, but stopped herself in the middle of the process realizing how stupid she was for doing so.

"wow, did you just fix your hair?" jake raised his eyebrows and refrained from laughing.

andie glared at him and looked up when a familiar voice spoke up. she awkwardly smiled towards luke.

"what's up?" michael grinned and squinted with his eyes due to the sun.

"nothing, you?" andie replied before both her and jake stood up simultaneously.

"just enjoying the lovely weather." michael exaggarated his words, causing andie to snort. "we never got to say hi at the party." he then added, directing his words to jake.

"oh, right. hi, i'm jake." he smiled.

luke frowned and gazed at andie, silently asking her if it was that jake. she just nodded discreetly and crossed her arms under her chest.

"michael. this is luke." michael introduced them both. luke half heartedly smiled and puckered with his lips.

andie looked at the ocean quickly before someone pulled her hand carefully. crystal was looking up at her, motioning for her to kneel down with the help of her hand, which she did.

"i want to swim." crystal stated, smiling cutely.

"then we'll swim." andie laughed, catching everyone's attention.

"is this your sister?" luke asked as he crouched down to get to the same height as them.

"yeah." andie smiled and ruffled her sister's hair. "say hi to luke."

"hi." crystal greeted him and stretched out her hand. luke seemed surprised but shook in nonetheless and grinned back.

"hi. andie's told me a lot about you, it's nice to finally meet you." he said honestly.

"do you only have guy friends?" crystal asked, giggling. andie raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms. "i mean, cameron, jake, now these two. oh, and ca-"

andie was quick to press her hand against crystal's mouth with wide eyes. she laughed nervously and stood up slowly.

"yeah, i do. you wanted to swim?" she changed the subject and clutched the hem of her shirt.

luke stood up as well and in a non-creepy way watched andie, who was starting to take off her shirt. jake stopped his small conversation with michael to glimpse at her.

"are you actually going to swim?" he laughed, biting his bottom lip briefly.

"what else do you do on a beach?" andie tossed the shirt on one of the towels and gave jake a look. she shrugged sloppily before looking down at crystal who was ready too.

they both started walking towards the ocean while the boys made themselves comfortable sitting down. andie curled her toes faintly against the sand and smiled — it had been forever since she spent a day on the beach. crystal squealed when she took the first step into the water and brought her clenched hands up to her chin.

"it's cold!" she whined.

"no, it's not." andie chuckled and walked backwards deeper in the water.

"yes, it is!" crystal crossed her arms and took solely one more step forward. andie rolled her eyes at her stubbornness and pulled her fingers through her hair.

"come here or i'll throw you in." andie threatened, looking at her sister with her menacing eyes.

"i can just run back to the towels." crystal smiled proudly, her head held high.

andie eyed her, quickly deciding on what to do, before making a rush for it. she wrapped her arms around crystal, held her with a steady grip, and walked back into the water with fast steps.

"what were you saying?" she teased, grinning when crystal started to try and push herself away from her grip.

"you're so mean!" crystal muttered but gasped when the water reached her waist. "andie!"

"crystal!" andie mocked her high pitched voice and made a face for a split second just to annoy her more. she spun them both around and kissed crystal's forehead quickly. "you love me."

"unfortunately." crystal huffed and finally put her arms around andie's neck.

"hey!" andie chuckled and carefully put her sister down, since she wasn't easy as a feather anymore.

the two sisters spent a few minutes talking, but mostly just splashing each other with water and chasing each other. andie would occasionally try and watch the boys on the shore, but the distance was too far for her to even get a slightly clear view.

crystal walked by andie's side when they decided to walk back to the towels. andie sat down on her knees and tried her hardest to keep her eyes on jake.

"how was the water?" jake asked, examining her.

"salty." she grimaced and exhaled a deep breath.

jake nodded slightly and glanced at luke, who was tugging on his lip ring with his teeth. andie hated the silence that washed over them, and she hated how awkward it really was. her eyes flickered between all of them, but she didn't know what to do or say.

"who wants some ice cream?" jake suddenly asked, mostly to crystal. her eyes widened and she nodded her head furiously.

andie felt relief wash over her as jake and crystal stood up, getting ready to go and buy some ice cream.

"i want ice cream." michael joined them with a weak smirk. he winked at luke before the three of them were walking away from there.

"can i have my shirt?" andie carefully asked, nodding to the garment laying behind luke. he of course turned around and gave her it, which she put on quickly and then ruffled her hair. luke was happy she asked for her shirt back; her sitting in front of him with a bikini was a major distraction and he really wanted to be nice and not look.

"crystal's really sweet." luke uttered and smiled to her.

"i think she finds it a bit awkward being with three boys." andie laughed and admired luke's blue eyes.

"who can blame her?" he shook his head faintly. "figured out what to get her yet?"

"i think so." she nodded, playing with her fingernails. "i just hope she'll like it."

"can i ask you something? now that we're alone?" he mumbled carefully and gazed at her. she nodded. "why are you avoiding me at school? like, extremely avoiding me?"

andie exhaled through her nose and slightly pressed her lips together, looking down at the ground. he patiently waited for an answer until she looked back up at him.

"because... we're getting closer, and i don't like it. don't get me wrong, i don't not like you, but to start talking in school will just be weird. and not because i care about what people think, because i don't—"

"sounds like you care though." luke butted in, receiving a glare from her.

"i don't. but do you want to be called the guy who hangs out with the freak? the odd girl?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

"as long as i get to hang out with you, i couldn't give two shits about what everyone thinks. so stop dodging me at school." he smiled softly, truly meaning his words.

"okay." she agreed, raising her hands in the air beside her body briefly.

"are we friends yet?" he asked and raised his eyebrows a bit.

andie giggled quietly — and she didn't even bother preventing it — and bit on her nail with her eyes fixed on him. she just couldn't say no, because no matter how much she wanted to deny it, they had become closer, to the point where they could initiate a proper friendship.

"yes, we're friends." she finally smiled, weakly nodding too.

"yes!" he cheered, startling her by throwing his arms around her body, causing them both to fall down.

"lucas!" andie laughed and put her hands against his chest.

"annabelle!" luke whispered teasingly and snorted once he saw her unamused expression. "andie."

"oh my gosh, jake." she mumbled and pushed him off of her. she quickly sat up when crystal happily came jogging towards her.

"hey!" crystal greeted them and handed andie an ice cream. "jake thought your favorite was twister so we had an argument about that. i know your favorite's sandwich." she smiled proudly, licking her own ice cream.

"oh wow, you didn't need to buy me one." andie laughed but pecked her sister's cheek quickly. "thanks."

"and we got you one too, mate." jake smiled as michael handed luke an ice cream too.

luke smiled gratefully as he unwrapped his ice cream. andie and crystal continued their discussion with low voices about which hair color is the coolest, whereas the boys listened to them. andie was all for blue, while crystal liked purple more.

"blue is so much cooler." andie said, sitting cross-legged and with her elbow against one leg.

"nope." crystal objected stubbornly while shaking her head.

"you two are so alike." luke smirked, referring to their personality and attitude.

andie nodded in agreement and gave up the argument. crystal was as determinate as her, so they were both going to stick with their opinion for eternity.

michael and jake seemed to get along rather well, unlike luke who couldn't help but to hold a slight hate towards jake, even though he had no personal reason to. his anger was merely based on jake's relationship with andie.

andie noticed luke's discomfort and scratched the back of her neck, trying to come up with a reason to either leave or at least for her and luke to be more separated from the group. but then she remembered crystal, and she was supposed to be with her. and oh, was she frustrated over the situation.

she sucked in a sharp breath and made a quick decision. usually, she'd go after instinct, but now she knew that doing this sooner rather than later was better, and smarter. so she rose up from her seat and poked jake's leg with her toes.

"can i talk to you?" andie asked, giving him a look.

"of course, babe." jake smiled, standing up too. andie frowned at the sudden nickname and started walking towards the water, away from the group.

"of course, babe." luke mimicked him with a grumpy face and rolled his eyes.

"wow, calm down before anyone can sense your jealousy." michael said in a monotonic voice and gazed at his friend.

"i'm not jealous!" luke denied, huffing while crossing his arms.

"yeah, okay." michael scoffed, stretching his arms in the air.

"i like you better than jake." crystal suddenly uttered while looking at luke.

andie crossed her arms before looking to the side, at the waves that came crashing against the shore.

"we're gonna break up." she stated, gazing back at jake.

"when?"

"right now." andie sighed, biting her bottom lip. "since this is a decision i'd pick last, it's probably the right one."

"so how do you want to break up?" jake laughed, hugging his elbows with his hands.

"i've told luke that we're having small problems in our relationship, so it wouldn't be suspicious if we broke up now. kiss me."

"wait, what?" he asked, surprised over her last demand.

"just do it."

jake took a deep breath before leaning in, but andie pressed her hand against his chest to stop him and put on an angry face.

"what are you doing?" she asked, taking a step back. he scanned her face before catching onto her idea and grasped her waist.

"don't be like that." he pulled her closer, making an attempt in kissing her again.

"stop!" she pushed him away forcefully and stepped away.

"baby, come on, we can talk this out." he pleaded, making a gesture with his arms.

michael harshly nudged luke's side, interrupting his conversation with crystal. luke followed michael's gaze with a worried expression and watched the couple who seemed to argue.

"see? i don't like jake." crystal mumbled and made a heart in the sand with her index finger.

"makes two of us." luke mumbled back and pulled his fingers through his hair.

andie turned around and started walking away from jake, but he jogged his way to her. she seemed very pissed off, which honestly scared both michael and luke.

"andie!" jake sighed and tried to catch her wrist, but she dodged him.

"just stop, alright. you're such an ass." she slowed down her pace and chewed on the insides of her cheeks.

"you're making a big deal out of nothing. calm down, we can solve this later."

"no, you know what? i'm tired of always having to solve some bloody problem, because that's all we have these days. it's over, i can't do this anymore." she ended it, and started walking back to the group.

andie exhaled deeply before kneeling down in front of crystal, who took the hint immediately and rolled their towels together.

jake stood a meter away, awkwardly crossing his arms against his chest and staring at the ground. luke really didn't know what to do, so he sat still and fiddled with his fingers.

"andie..." jake mumbled carefully to fill the silence.

"shut up. crystal, let's go, we have to get home." andie snapped, seizing crystal's small hand. "bye." she mumbled to michael and luke before leaving them all.

"andie?" crystal said as they walked.

"yes?" she smiled and swung their arms back and forth.

"i'm glad you're mad at jake, because i want you to be happy at luke instead."
