Chapter Four

****

Stiles slowly walked into the hospital room of his girlfriend, and he could swear he felt his heart break even more the moment he saw her lying in the bed. He couldn't stand to see her in this fragile state, she looked so helpless...so broken. She was extremely pale, her lips only holding onto a slight shade of pink. Stiles couldn't believe the amount of machines that were hooked up to her, flooding her room with different noises. He walked over to the window grabbing the chair that sat under it, and pulled it over to the side of her bed. As he took his seat, he carefully placed her hand in his. The tears rolled down his flushed cheeks, "Hey, baby. It's me, Stiles...Um, look...I-I don't know if you can hear me, but I'm gonna talk anyways."

His thumb rubbed gently against her hand, carefully avoiding the IV. "Autumn, I-I need you to pull through this..." He choked out, "I can't live without you...If I lose you, I lose myself. Please, I'm begging you...find something inside to hold onto. I've already lost someone I loved, I can't lose you too."

Autumn was still lifeless, but Stiles held onto the hope that she was listening, that somehow she was hearing every single word he was saying. "I shouldn't have let you go by yourself...This all could have been avoided...I could be holding you right now, laughing at some cheesy movie we both hate, but watch anyways. Instead I'm sitting here watching these machines keep you alive, wishing you could give me some sort of sign that you will be okay...or at least that you can hear me...."

Stiles brought his free hand up to his face, wiping some of the tears away. "Seeing you like this is literally killing me....Why did this have to happen? You don't deserve this...I don't understand. But there is one thing I do understand, and it's how much I truly love you. And nothing will ever change that, no matter what happens...Autumn Rose Martin, I love you...and you're the only one for me. I'll love you with all of my heart, until my last dying breath."

The door creaked open and Melissa McCall walked in, "Hey, Stiles...sorry to interrupt..."

The boy quickly sucked his emotions back in, "I-It's okay...Do I need to leave?"

Melissa walked over to where he was sitting, resting her hand on his shoulder. "Just for a few minutes if you don't mind..."

Stiles nodded, "Take good care of her..." He said forcing a small smile.

Melissa returned a comforting smile, pulling the boy into a hug. "Of course, kiddo. You don't need to worry about that." She pulled away from the boy, getting a good look at his face. "Stiles...you need some rest. It's looking like she's pretty set in her condition...it won't hurt to sleep."

"I can't sleep knowing that any minute I could lose her," Stiles replied, shaking his head. "I'll be fine."

Melissa let out a small sigh, "Alright...Then how about you go get some coffee? Maybe some food? The girls are in the cafeteria, and Scott is somewhere around here."

"I guess coffee would be a good idea...Just, if anything changes while I'm down there–"

"I promise I'll let you know...Now go."

The young boy obeyed his best friends mothers orders, but he didn't get far. The moment he walked out of the room, that's when the real breakdown came. The tears poured out of his eyes like waterfalls, and his breathing became more rapid as the sobs escaped his body. There was nothing that could make him feel better other than Autumn waking up, and being okay.

"Why are you even here? How did you even find out about the accident? Has anybody seen you?!"

"Hello to you too, Scott. Nobody saw me, I came in a different way. And I heard it...Isaac and I were getting ready to head into the woods to search for Deucalion and his pack, and I heard the crash. I didn't know how far off it was was and just obviously assumed it was someone random. Then we eventually stumbled upon the accident, but by the time we got to it they were already driving off in the ambulance. Allison was just getting ready to follow it when we showed up. She told us it was Autumn, so I followed too."

Scott folded his arms over his chest, "Where's Isaac?"

"He stayed at the scene...he said he wanted to look around. We could smell a werewolf when we got there....but that's not what's important right now, is she okay?"

Scott shook his head slowly, attempting to fight back the tears that were threatening to pour out of his eyes. "My mom pulled me into a room and told me all the injuries she has, and I honestly don't understand how she even survived. Her whole body is practically shattered...she can't breathe on her own, her ribs are crushed and her lungs are in really bad shape. She has internal bleeding, and all these problems inside her that they can't fix, and her skull–" The teen wolf paused as he could feel the tears begin to flow down his face, "I wanna be strong for everybody because that's what I'm supposed to do, but I can't be even be strong for myself. I can't fix this...I can't help her. We aren't even allowed in the same room as her right now, only her family...I wanna take her pain away, it's the least I can do."

"What about the bite?" Derek mentioned, "It could heal her–"

"Or kill her!" Scott exclaimed.

Derek let out a heavy sigh, "From what it sounds like she's basically already dead. This could be her last chance at life, Scott."

"She doesn't want the bite, Derek."

"But I'm sure she wants to live...and I know you all want her to."

Scott could feel the anger building up inside him, "Is this why you came?! To give her the bite and make her a part of your little pack since Erica and Boyd are gone?!"

Derek pursed his lips, "Maybe I came because I knew that I could help if it was needed. I don't wanna see her die either."

Scott shifted his eyes towards the ground, "The bite isn't just some casual thing that will just save her life, it will completely change it. If it was just up to me I would say do it, but we should talk to the others..."

"And what if they all say not to give her the bite, because of the end results. She'll be supernatural...what if they don't want that? Are you just gonna let her die?" The Alpha asked.

Melissa walked around the corner to find her son and Derek, "Scott, a word please." She said, motioning him to come over to her.

Scott made his way over to his mother, "What's going on? Did something change with Autumn?"

She shook her head slightly, "No, everything's looking the same. But Autumn's parents and the doctors decided to allow you all to go in and talk to her...one at a time though."

"Why are they changing it all of the sudden..."

Melissa took a deep breath and placed a hand on her sons shoulder, "Autumn's parents and the doctors had another talk a little bit ago, and they want you all to get as much time as you can with her...They um...they have some decisions to make, but we don't need to discuss that right now. Okay? So, you should go spend a little time with her. Lydia and Allison are down in the cafeteria, and Stiles just left her room to get some coffee...So, nobody is in there right now."

Scott watched his mother closely as the tears began to form in her eyes, "Mom, is there really nothing else they can do?"

"No, not really.... Scott, we're lucky she's survived as long as she has. She was in surgery for twelve hours with multiple surgeons, and that resulted in little to no improvement. Her body just isn't responding to it, all her injuries she received are just too bad. I'm sorry, Sweetheart..."

Scott glanced towards Derek, then back to his mother. "What if there was something an Alpha could do...Would you be willing to help?"

"I'm still a extremely new to all of this stuff, but if we can help her....I'll do anything. What's the plan?"

****

"Hey, Otto. Look at the trouble you've gotten yourself into this time." Scott said, as he took a seat in the chair that sat right next to Autumns bed. "So, they aren't giving you much hope, but I know you're strong...one of the strongest people I know. Definitely strong enough to take the bite from an Alpha, and survive."

Scott folded his hands together, resting his elbows on his thighs. "Autumn, I know you don't want the bite...but this is the only thing that can save you. But don't worry, okay... I'll be right by your side to help you through everything...to teach you, support you, and help you adjust." He turned around to find Derek looking into the window, then quickly turned back to his best friend. "We have to do this quick before anybody decides to come in here, my mom can only hold everyone off for so long...we have to do this, please understand. We can't lose you, Otto. I wouldn't be able to live with myself knowing there was something I could have done to save you if you died...I don't know how everybody is gonna react to you getting the bite, but right now that doesn't matter. What matters is saving you..."

He grabbed ahold of her hand, "I don't know if you can even feel the pain...but if you can I'm gonna take care of that..." The teen wolf squeezed the young girls hand, and black veins began to run up his arm. He was taking every bit of pain away from her that his body could handle. Yes, the pain was excruciating, but for him it would be gone a few seconds after letting go of her hand...every second was worth it, just knowing that he was helping Autumn.

Derek walked into the room, "Are you ready?"

Scott released his hand from his best friends, "I-I guess..." he said, trying to catch his breath. "I couldn't get all the pain, she has so much–"

"You can help her some more after the bite..." Derek interrupted. "Do you wanna leave the room or stay?" He asked.

Scott placed his feet firmly on the ground as he stood up from the chair, "I'm not leaving her side while this happens...."

Derek moved his neck around as his wolf features began taking over his face, "Alright, here we go."

****

"Why isn't it working, Derek?! Nothing's changing! Why isn't she waking up?!" Scott frantically asked over the phone.

"I don't know..." The Alpha replied. Derek had no idea why nothing was happening to the girl, especially since it had been hours since she received the bite. He told Scott to keep a close eye on her, since he didn't want to raise suspicions doing it himself.

"Hey Scott?" Stiles said from the other end of the hallway.

Scott glanced at his best friend, "I gotta go Stiles is back, I'll keep you updated." He said quickly, slipping his phone in his pocket. "What's up?"

"Allison wanted me to come tell you she had to run home, but she'll be back soon..."

Scott nodded, "Okay, so...anything new going on in the waiting room?"

Stiles shook his head, glancing at the window into his girlfriends room. "I just got done fighting with my dad about going home to sleep, that's about it. I wish Lydia would hurry so I could go back in there..." Both boys watched as Lydia sat next to her sister not saying a word, but just staring at her closely.

Not even seconds later a bunch of alarms started sounding from the small hospital room that held Autumn. Lydia jumped up from her chair, and they could see her begin to panic as the tears ran down her face.

"Out of the way!!! We have a code blue!!!!!" A doctor screamed, running down the hallway straight into Autumns room. An entire herd of doctors and nurses followed behind carrying various machines, hovering over the girls bed. Lydia was quickly shoved out of the room, left banging on the window screaming for her sister.

Melissa McCall rushed down the hallway, grabbing the young girl into a hug. "Shhh, Lydia you need to calm down."

"Mom, What's happening?!"

Melissa looked at her son with glossed over eyes, "It's not good...You may want to go get her parents."
