Your legs moved as fast as they could to the Ubuyashiki estate. You were a few feet in front of Giyuu and Tanjiro who were also sprinting towards the estate.
You had your sword and mask on your body, prepared to fight for your Master. You had to keep your mask off to be able enhance your sense of smell.
With each step you took, the bad feeling you had grew in your stomach. If something were to happen to the Ubuyashiki family, everything would fall apart.
Your mind ran back to the hashira meeting. No pillars guarded the Ubuyashiki estate due to Kagaya Ubuyashiki and his family refusing protection, so this made panic arise.
You felt anxiety bubble up in your stomach as sweat dripped down your face. You could see the building enter your vision from afar and forced yourself to run faster.
The training you had done earlier must have tired you out, because your feet could only take you so far.
But before you could reach the building, or before any hashira could in fact, the building exploded.
You felt a shiver rush through your body as you widened your eyes in horror. Your mouth opened, and a gasp emitted.
You grabbed your mouth, covering your nose as the smell of blood and flesh entered your nostrils. You felt nauseous, like you were going to faint.
"Hurry! Keep on running!" Giyuu grabbed you firmly, forcing you to move. A mantra of 'Master' could be heard from every hashira as they rushed over in concern.
"It's Muzan! Muzan Kibutsuji! This guy won't die even if you cut his head off!" Gyomei had shouted, already standing where the Ubuyashiki estate once was.
What replaced the feeling of nausea was a feeling of injustice and the urge to kill Muzan.
Every hashira, and Tanjiro, used one of their forms from their breathing techniques to approach the demon lord.
'Hinokami kagura.. flame dance!' Before anyone could fully perform their techniques, everyone had fallen through the floor, away from Muzan.
"You seriously thought you could corner me?! You're all going to hell now! You pathetic demon slayer pests!! I'm slaughtering you all tonight!" A disgusting grin was on Muzan's face as he mocked you all.
"You're going to hell, Muzan, you bastard!" You shouted back. "You're not getting away! We'll defeat you for sure!" Tanjiro had also shouted.
"Come and get me if you can, Y/n and Tanjiro Kamado!" Once you all fully fell through, a door slid shut and you landed on the ground under you.
"Tanjiro!" Giyuu grunted, picking him up and throwing your brother before he could fall to his death. "Behind you!" You warned as a demon was about to claw Tanjiro.
In a second, Tanjiro had slashed the demon's head off. Just then, several demons had burst through the door next to Tanjiro.
Using water breathing, you used the tenth form, constant flux. Giyuu and Tanjiro used two different forms of water breathing to help behead the rest of the demons, and in a second, they were already disintegrating.
Giyuu had used a form that could flow with both yours and Tanjiro's attack, just based off of a single movement.
Although you could use water breathing, you hadn't mastered it like Giyuu.
Sun breathing was the one you had felt familiar with due to growing up and watching your father perform it. "Let's move." Giyuu said. "Okay!" You and Tanjiro complied.
"Y/n... what happened to Master?" Tanjiro queried. He had reluctance in his tone. He made sure to be careful with his wording so he wouldn't sound too sudden.
"They... are no longer with us." You kept your response simple and blunt. There was no need to sugarcoat it. You knew Tanjiro could smell the burning flesh of the Master and his family's blood.
You had felt tears slowly begin to prick your eyes as you continued to run.
You remembered the time when you were in critical condition after the fight with upper moon three, Akaza.
Your crow had told you that during the time you were asleep, Master would visit you and pray for your well-being, encouraging you to fight and never give up.
He would do it every time you fell into a deep sleep after a long battle.
Even as he was dying, Master put his effort into being like a father to every demon slayer.
Muzan had taken your family away and cursed your younger sister, as well as slaughter a man every hashira could call their second father.
This could only motivate your thirst to kill even more, like adding fuel to the fire.
You heard Tanjiro grunt and looked back to see him fall through the ground and pull himself back up again.
"Don't ease up! You have to stay close!" Tanjiro could hear the panic in your voice, he could smell it too.
He knew you didn't want to lose anyone else after such a big loss. But Tanjiro knew, everyone knew, that not all would get out alive.
Just then, your crow Sanzo flew above you with a paper stuck to his chest and an eye painted on it.
"Caww!! Dead! Shinobu Kocho is dead! She died after confrontation with upper moon two!!" You felt your heart ache even more than it did before.
Someone you considered a friend, had now just died in battle.
Shinobu had always been there for you during the times you were injured, and was the only hashira that had shown you nothing but sincerity in her actions.
You could feel tears streaming down your cheeks, but you couldn't afford to stop running. You suppressed your cries and focused on your breathing instead.
You knew that during the whole battle, nothing but tragedies would follow. You had to turn it off. Your emotions, you had to block them.
To be at your strongest, you couldn't let your emotions get in the way. No distractions.
Suddenly, the ground beneath you shook and your hand immediately went to the hilt of your sword.
"What is this tremor?!" Giyuu exclaimed. "Y/n.. Giyuu!" Tanjiro said.
"Don't move! Calm down!" You ordered, your eyes darting around, looking for a demon. Then you looked up, and saw a large crack.
"From above! Stay back, Tanjiro!!" You pushed Tanjiro away from you and came face to face with Akaza.
"It sure has been a while. I'm surprised that you're alive, being the weakling that you are, Tanjiro Kamado!" The demon wasted no time to bolt forward, aiming for Tanjiro who was nearly beside you.
Tanjiro did a fire wheel and cut Akaza's arm off, and you simply moved to dodge his attack.
"Gosh, how many times do i have to tell you? I don't touch or devour women! But then again, it seems like you've gotten stronger... have you... become a hashira?" Instead of going towards you, in a second he turned and aimed to hit Tanjiro's head off with his forearm.
"That's a shame! If you were a man, I'd fight you in an instant! Let's see if you can protect your weak little brother!" Akaza said.
Using the tenth form of hinokami kagura, fake rainbow, Tanjiro narrowly evaded his attack.
His skills and movements are... fit to be one of a hashira's.
A shallow cut appeared on Akaza's face as Tanjiro landed, and you could feel a grin slowly make its way on your face.
"'This boy and girl aren't weak. Don't insult them.' I now accept that Kyojuro was right to say that. I've already expressed my respect for you, Y/n. But Tanjiro, you truly are not weak. I will show my respect for you." Akaza got into stance.
The same snowflake you saw last time appeared under him, breaking the wood underneath his feet.
You felt annoyed that Akaza would be ignoring and disregarding your presence, but this would be easier to make openings for Tanjiro and Giyuu.
If Akaza thought you were an annoying woman, then it was time to live up to his expectations.
Giyuu and Akaza conversed as they fought, sending attacks right after another.
Tanjiro used this to unleash his own attack, but Akaza appeared behind him and had his arm a millisecond away from beheading him.
He was fast, but you were faster.
'Tenth form, fire wheel.' You cut his arm in half before it could do any damage.
Akaza had his attention focused on Giyuu again, or what seemed like it. As you aimed for
Akaza's leg, he suddenly kicked upwards, missing you by a few inches on purpose.
Crimson blood immediately ran out of your nostrils. "Y/n!" Tanjiro shouted, appearing by your side in an instant.
"No..!" Akaza had just used an attack to launch Giyuu far away from you and Tanjiro.
"Giyuu..!" You gasped, grabbing your sword. "Ahh. So his name's Giyuu?" Akaza was mere inches away from you and Tanjiro.
"Get back!" Your brother, who had a better chance of deflecting the demon's attack, used the fourth form, burning bones, summer sun.
You and Tanjiro were pushed back due to the force of Akaza's attacks. Akaza slowly walked towards the two of you, shit talking Kyojuro as he did so.
"What was that? You asshole. Who gave you permission to speak ill of Kyojuro?" You stood and held out your sword, getting into stance.
What made you reluctant to attack was when Akaza suddenly swung his fist in mid air. But no one was there?
You took his distraction to appear in front of him, your sword high in the air to swing down.
Hinokami kagura, first form, dance. You were able to land the vertical slash on his body, but you missed his head.
Akaza had slammed his fist into the ground which sent you flying, through a few walls and knocking you out.
"Y/N!" Tanjiro shouted, and that's when he and Akaza began exchanging attacks.
It took a couple minutes for you to wake up. By then, Giyuu had recovered and returned to assist Tanjiro.
Your back ached, but you didn't think there were any cuts. Just bruises. Although, your head was pounding and you knew blood was running down the sides of your face.
Before you stood, you took a few seconds to observe what was going on. Giyuu had his mark appear on his cheek.
But as soon as you took a step, you felt your head spin and you immediately dropped to your knees, using your sword to hold you up.
You had to think of a way to beat Akaza. Instead, a memory of your father flashed.
Tanjuro Kamado, your father, was a gentle man. He had no emotional outbursts even as he was dying.
Whenever you missed your father, you remembered his soft smile and calm voice.
Your demeanour now was a reflection of your dad, someone you aspired to be.
Whenever you sat with him, he'd always rub your head affectionately and stare at you with his kind eyes and soft smile.
Tanjuro couldn't help but coo when you smiled widely at him.
He wouldn't admit it, but out of all his children, he could definitely say that you had the brightest smile. You were probably the brightest overall too.
You were always a kind child, even when something didn't go your way, you always found a solution.
You would say that you took after your father, but your mother was a very kind and sincere woman as well.
Yet aside from your mother, your father was slightly... different. His aura and personality was calm. Similar to that of a plant.
You recalled the night when your father called you and Tanjiro to follow him outside during the night. That was when he slaughtered a bear, cutting off its head with a mere axe.
Even though he was sick and frail, he was able to behead the animal in a second. You could smell no murderous intent from him either.
Neither you or Tanjiro brought up the events of that night again. And it wasn't like you ever needed to, anyways.
As your father became weaker, he told you more and more about the sun dance and the traditions.
During one of the conversations about doing the sun dance, you remember him telling you and Tanjiro about an invisible world.
So what was this 'see through world'? Was it the thing Akaza could see? This... battle spirit he mentioned last time with Kyojuro? Whatever it was, you had to shut it down.
You felt a sudden strength in you build up, and a mark resembling a flame appeared on your forehead and spread from your neck, to your cheek.
Giyuu's sword had just snapped in half, and Akaza's fist was grazing his uniform, about to impale him. Faster than you ever were, you cut off Akaza's wrist.
Akaza was gazing at you and Tanjiro with his eyes wide, another snowflake glowed under Akaza's feet and Giyuu lunged forward.
You turned to Tanjiro, who had also seemed to unlock the 'see through world'. All the bodies around you were invisible. It was as if everything was slower.
Upper moon three unleashed a wide ranged attack, leaving Giyuu hunched over on his knees.
As you were about to attack Akaza, who didn't realize you or Tanjiro was behind him, Tanjiro spoke.
"Akaza! I will cut your head off right now!" You mentally face-palmed.
Ducking and dodging his attack, you swung your sword, using a horizontal slash to cut his legs off.
Finally, Tanjiro flipped into the air above you and cut the demon's head off. But before Akaza's head fell off, he grabbed it and held it to his neck, trying to put it back on
Giyuu threw his sword, taking his head off and to the side. His head began to disintegrate, but his body ceased to disappear.
He was still standing. You looked beside you to see Tanjiro at his limit. Akaza's arm came crashing down, but you moved Tanjiro out of the way before he was crushed.
Your eyes were burning at this point.
Upon landing, you tumbled away from Tanjiro, watching as he was kicked into the wall to your right. His eyes rolled back and he had now passed out from exhaustion. Shit.
"Tanjiro!" You exclaimed, grabbing your sword and sprinting to the headless demon running towards your brother.
'Hinokami kagura, twelfth form, flame dance.' As soon as your attack went through, Akaza regenerated faster than before.
Giyuu got up to help you as well, but the same thing happened, no matter how powerful the attack.
The body turned around again, walking towards Tanjiro. "If you want to kill Tanjiro," You began.
"You'll have to get through us first!!" Giyuu stood next to you, but you could tell he was also at his limit.
You were the only one who could move the most, but even so, you wouldn't be able to move as fast as you could earlier.
Akaza's body was unmoving, but his head was slowly beginning to regenerate, even after being beheaded.
Tanjiro got up and was ready to swing his sword, but it slipped out of his grip and he punched the demon's face instead.
You then noticed Akaza's stance. He was about to perform another blood demon art, and Tanjiro and Giyuu were in the range of his attack.
You first grabbed Tanjiro in a tight grip and then pulled Giyuu along, using your body as a shield to protect the two boys under you.
You looked back at Akaza, to see a soft smile plastered on his face. He used his own attack to blow himself up, but even as you were out of his range, large wooden shards grazed your back and a rock had hit your head.
You grunted in pain, your hold tightening on Tanjiro and Giyuu. "Big sis!" Tanjiro gasped, quickly sitting up and grabbing your shoulders.
Akaza had already disappeared and finally died, so the water hashira and your brother could now worry about the damage that was done to your own bodies.
"It's over now..." You sighed, watching as Tanjiro suddenly fell over. "Tanjiro.." Giyuu muttered, but he also fell forward, having to use his broken sword to keep his body up.
You began to feel your head spin and your body throb in agony. Leaning your head downwards, your eyes closed, giving into fatigue.
