This is an AU where the characters are in middle school. Jake and Liam are 14, and Drew and Henry are 13

No one's POV
The last couple.of days of March break, Liam had been keeping himself busy. He wanted a whole new look, and he had thought of the perfect one. He planned on keeping it a surprise until he went back to school. He thought that kids would be practically begging to hang out with him after they saw him
On the Monday after March break, Drew and Henry were chatting with each other in their classroom as the room of eighth graders waited for their teacher to show up. Jake walked into class, nervously looking around in fear he'd run into the kids who bullied him
"Jake! Over here!"
Jake looked in the direction of who had called him. Henry was waving Jake over at his desk. The two of them, Drew, and Liam all had desks close to him each other
Jake smiled and quickly went over to his friends
"Hey, guys..!" he said
"How you doing?" Drew asked
"I'm alright...a little on edge I guess..." Jake said
"Don't worry about a thing" Drew said
The three of them talked with each other for a little, then Jake raised the question all three of them were thinking
"Hey, guys...where's Liam...?"
"Not sure" Drew shrugged
"Think he's sick or something...?" Henry asked
Suddenly, Liam walked in. His friends all turned to the door. Their jaws dropped, and their eyes went wide at the sight of their friend
Liam's dark maroon colored hair was now fading into black, and had red streaks in it. He was wearing a black 'Invader Zim' T-shirt over top of a black and white long sleeves top, aswell as black ripped jeans. He was wearing a black spiked chocker, aswell as spiked bracelets, both with silver spikes
Liam sat down at his desk, his friends still staring at him in shock. Upon closer inspection, it was noticable that he was wearing black eyeliner
"......Liam?" Drew said
"Hey, guys!" Liam smiled "what's up?"
".....dude. You're...." Drew started to say
"What? That cool??" Liam asked excited "What's the best part?"
"You're....you're.....everything...." Drew said. Liam instantly smiled
"N-No, I didn't mean it like tha-" Drew started to say, but just sighed. "Nevermind..."
"Is this what you've been up to the past couple of days..?" Jake asked curiously. Liam nodded
"Jake, Henry, what do you two think?" he asked
"I...I like it..!" Jake smiled. Henry nodded in agreement
"Great!" Liam smiled "I was trying to go for a 'Scene phase'...don't know if I captured it...but, hey! It looks good!"
Suddenly a group of boys walked over. Jake immediately recognized them. They were the boys who would always pick on Jake for liking music. Jake instantly looked away, silently panicking
"Oh my god, Liam, what the hell are you wearing?!" one of them said. Liam and the rest of Jake's friends looked at the boys
"You like it...?" Liam asked, a little oblivious. The three nasty boys bursted out laughing in response
"Are you kidding?!" another said "You look like a freak!! More than Jake, if anything!!"
Jake burried his head in his arms, trying to hide himself from the bullies
"What the hell is that on your shirt?!" another bully asked "Is that 'Invader Zim'?! That show is such a primary school thing!" (A/N: No offense to anyone who likes this show😭)
Liam looked down at his top, then crossed his arms over the picture on it. Suddenly one of the boys grabbed one of his arms and pulled it up
"What the hell are these?" he asked "Think you're so tough and cool that you gotta wear spikes?"
Liam pulled his arm down. He started to feel his face heat up from embarrassment. Henry looked down, now also upset
"How about you three leave us alone." Drew said as he glared at the bullies. But the three bullies didn't listen. In fact, they did something so much worse
"Hey, everyone!!" one of them shouted as they turned to face the rest of the classroom. Most of the other students in the class looked over
"Look at the weird kid and his stupid outfit!!"
The kids who had looked over at Liam all started laughing and pointing
"His hair looks so stupid!!"
"Oh my god, look at what he's wearing!!"
"What a loser!!"
"Emo nerd!!"
"He's so cringy and ugly!!"
The name calling went into just full on laughing and giggling after a few seconds. At that point, the teacher had walked in, completely unaware of what had happened
"Alright, everyone, that's quite enough." he said as he placed a laptop case on his desk "Everyone take your seats please."
All the kids began to go back to their seats. Before the bullies left, one of them looked back at Liam. He mouthed out the word "Freak" before going to his desk, and sitting down
As the teacher took attendance, Liam looked down, feeling tears form in his eyes. He just had the same thought going through his mind over and over again
"Don't cry at school....don't cry at school...don't cry at school..."
The overwhelming emotions got to be too much for Liam after a few seconds, and he just put his hand up
"M-Mr Carter.....?" he said. The teacher looked over at him
"Yes, Liam?"
"M-May I please be excused.......? I need to go to the bathroom for a minute......"
"Yes, you may" the teacher said, deciding to let it slide since it was the first day back. Liam immediately got up and left the classroom, quickly making his way to the bathroom

Liam was out of the classroom for ten minutes, and even after that he still wasn't back. Henry was growing more and more worried for him, the longer he was gone. The teacher decided that someone should probably go see if Liam was alright
"Henry?"
Henry's head popped up after he heard his name
"Yeah..?"
"Can you go check on Liam and see if he's alright?"
"Y-Yeah, okay..."
Henry got up from his desk, and left the classroom. As soon as he was out, he began to walk a bit faster

"Liam...?"
Henry got to the bathroom, and looked towards the bottom of the stalls. In the large stall at the very end, he could see someone sitting there. And whoever it was, was crying
"Liam, is that you...?"
"...Henry...?"
The person inside spoke, and Henry knew it was Liam after hearing his voice. Henry went over to the stall and stood outside it. Shortly after he got over, Liam opened the stall. Henry went in, closing and locking the stall behind him. Once inside, Liam went back to his spot on the floor. Henry followed him, and slid down beside him
"H-Hey, it's okay..." he said, putting his hand on Liam's shoulder, trying to comfort him
"I look ridiculous..." Liam said. His knees were pulled up to his chest and his face was burried in his arms
Henry looked down silently, trying to figure out what he could say that could help Liam feel at least a little better
"If it helps at all..." Henry said after a few seconds "I think you look really cool...a-and kinda cute too..."
Liam's face turned pink and he looked at Henry. He hesitated a bit before speaking again
"Stop lying to me..." he said "I look weird..."
"I'm not lying though..." Henry said "That's why I love you..."
"Why...? Cause I look weird...?" Liam asked
"No..." Henry said "Cause you can be yourself without worrying about what others think of you..."
Liam looked down at his outfit
"I wouldn't have been confident enough to do this...but you were..." Henry said "Don't let anyone take that away from you..."
Liam stayed looking down, then he looked at Henry and smiled a bit, before wiping his tears with his sleeves
"Thanks, Henry..." he smiled before hugging him. Henry smiled as he hugged Liam back, his face turning a bit pink
