Ash and the gang spend the next two weeks travelling to Memorial hill for Ash's final Akala island trial against kahuna Olivia. On the way the last of the 4 eggs finally hatches revealing itself to be a Jangmo-o. Ash is super happy with this but is warned by Lillie that she has read that dragon type pokemon are particularly hard to raise. Ash smiles reassuringly and says "Don't worry, I've got some experience of handling dragon types I think we'll be fine."
Jangmo-o is full of energy and personality when he first hatches but Ash quickly figures out that he has a particular appetite for battling strong opponents as jangmo-o instantly wants to get stronger after watching Ash and the rest of his pokemon in training Ash tells jangmo "the two of us will get stronger together and one day we will both be strong enough to win the Alola league." Jangmo-o seems happy with this answer as they all make their way to the battle against Olivia.
Ash and the gang arrive at the entrance to Memorial hill. Ash takes a deep breath and says "We finally made it." Mallow sighs and says "That was quite the trip." Lillie adds "You can say that again." Ash takes another big breath as he steps towards the entrance. He looks up at Pikachu and they both give each other a nod. Ash whispers to himself "It's time to show you what we're made of Olivia.
Ash pushes the gate open and is instantly met by a cheering crowd. He looks around to see a large crowd gathered around the battlefield. That's no surprise to see such a large crowd but they definitely seem a little more enthusiastic than normal given Ash's presence. Ash looks around at the rocky battlefield with the kahuna stood on the far side.
The group wish Ash good luck before they head up into the crowd. Ash walks forward towards the battlefield and comes face to face with Olivia. Olivia smiles and says "Ash, welcome to Memorial hill, I've been expecting you. I had no doubt that a trainer of your ability would beat Akala's 3 trial captains and challenge me to a battle. Ash smiles and says "Me and my pokemon gave it our all and we managed to come out on top. The same thing will happen today, we don't intend to lose." Olivia smirks and says "I like your confidence, we should get this battle started as soon as possible."
"I agree," Ash replies as the two of them take their places on the battlefield. The crowd shudder in anticipation as they await the start off the battle.
The referee takes his place in the referee's box and says "This will be a 3v3 battle between the challenger Ash Ketchum from Pallet town and the Kahuna Olivia. The battle will be over when either sides pokemon are unable to battle and only the challenger will be able to make substitutions. Please send out your Pokémon."
Olivia takes pokeball from her pocket and says "Are you ready Ash." Ash pumps his fist and replies "You bet it's time to earn my rockium z." Olivia says "great then meet my first pokemon Graveler." She throws her pokeball forward and Graveler emerges from it. However it's not the same Graveler Ash is used to seeing. He raises an eyebrow and says "Wow that Graveler is different from the ones in kanto." He scans it with his Pokédex learning that this an Alolan Graveler, an electric rock type.
Ash takes a pokeball out and throws it out as he sends out Jangmo-o but not to battle. Ash turns to Jangmo-o and says "Jangmo-o go and join the others in the stands. Watch carefully and you'll learn something." Jangmo-o nods his head and walks over to Kiawe and the others in the stands.
Ash thinks about what his actual choice is going to be and hesitates to make a decision. "Graveler is a Rock and electric type that is quite hard for my current team to deal with. He has super effective attacks for Litten and Trumbeak, he'll resist Pikachu's electricity and he probably also has access to ground type moves. That high defence will be hard for Rockruff to break through." Ash thinks for a little longer before he makes his decision as he pulls out his pokeball and shouts "Trumbeak I choose you." The pokeball hits the ground as Trumbeak emerges and readies himself for battle. Olivia raises an eyebrow and says to herself "a fly type, interesting." Ash raises his fist and says "I know we're at a disadvantage Trumbeak but I believe in you." Trumbeak nods to his trainer showing no fear. The referee lowers his flag and shouts "battle begin."
Ash makes the first move of the battle as he pumps his fist and shouts "Trumbeak use quick attack." Trumbeak nods and flies towards Graveler while glowing with a faint white aura. The bird slams its body into the rock type Pokémon, pushing him back but ultimately not doing a whole lot of damage. "Use rock tomb," Olivia commands as Graveler summons a few boulders before hurling them towards Trumbeak.
"Use double team," Ash counters as Trumbeak summons copies of himself that are instantly deleted by the incoming rocks but protect the real Trumbeak.
"Now use aerial ace," Ash commands causing Trumbeak to rush towards Graveler while emanating with a light blue aura. "Thunder punch," Olivia counters while Graveler clocks his fist back sparking with electricity. The two attacks clash together and cause both Pokémon to stagger back towards their trainers. Olivia smirks lightly and says "Use rollout." Graveler curls himself into a ball and rolls forward towards the flying type Pokémon. "Dodge it quick," Ash yells, Trumbeak hears his trainers call and quickly flys away from the incoming rollout. "Keep it up Graveler," Olivia commands with a small smirk. Graveler continues rolling around and turns his sights towards Trumbeak again. Ash grits his teeth and yells "dodge it again ." Trumbeak nods and once again barley dodges the incoming attack.
In the stands Kiawe says in a monotone "This looks bad for Ash." Mallow tilts her head in confusion and says "What do you mean Kiawe."
"Rollout is a move that only gets stronger the more it's used. If Ash doesn't stop it soon then I'm afraid he'll be at a severe disadvantage."
Back on the battlefield Graveler rolls forward again and this time smacks his massive body into Trumbeak causing the bird to cry out in pain and smash into the ground. Ash gasps and shouts "Are you okay Trumbeak." Trumbeak struggles and manages to drag himself back up to his feet. "End this Graveler," Olivia yells, Graveler continues his rollout attack and swings back around to Trumbeak again. Ash knows that there is no way Trumbeak can take this attack and also no way he can continue to constantly dodge. He instead knows he needs to try something and try it fast.
"Trumbeak use steel wing to create a ramp." The crowd gasp in shock and confusion as Trumbeak flies towards the ground while turning his wings into pure steel. He digs it into the ground and angles himself diagonally. Graveler continues to roll forward towards Trumbeak and ramps straight over him clashing straight into the rock. The crowd cheer at the unusual manoeuvre as Graveler drags himself to his feet.
In the crowd Lille shouts "What innovation!" Kiawe chuckles "That's the Ash we know." Back on the battlefield both trainers shout "Let's wrap this up." Ash pumps his fist and shouts "Use steel wing." Trumbeak chargers forward while turning his wings into our steel. "Use thunder punch," Olivia shouts making Graveler clock his fist and slams it towards Trumbeak. The two attack clash and cause a huge explosion. Both trainers watch intently as they await the result of the explosion. As the smoke clears the pokemon come into view. On one side Graveler has a few marks on his body and pants slightly heavy. On the other side Trumbeak is laid out on the floor with swirls in eyes. The referee exclaims "Trumbeak is unable to battle, Graveler is the winner."
Olivia celebrates and praises Graveler as the crowd cheers at the hometown favourite taking an early lead. In the crowd Lillie frowns and says "I never thought Trumbeak would lose." Mallow adds "It's the first time I've seen Ash behind in a battle." Kiawe finishes "That's true but there's still a long way to go yet."
Ash returns the fainted Trumbeak to the pokeball and turns it towards his face. "You were awesome Trumbeak, take a good rest." He returns the pokeball to the his belt and looks up at Olivia who exclaims "Is that really all you got. I must admit I expected a little more." Ash smirks and says "You haven't seen anything yet." He looks at his trusted partner and nods before shouting "Pikachu I choose you." Pikachu leaps onto the battlefield and spark his cheeks ready for action. Olivia smiles knowingly and remarks "That's more like it."
Ash wastes no time as he points forward and makes his first move. "Pikachu use quick attack." Pikachu nods and kicks off towards Graveler while glowing with a faint white aura. "Pika," Pikachu exclaims as he smashes his body into Graveler causing him to stagger back. Olivia wastes no time calling her next move as she says "Rollout once more." Graveler grins and curls himself back up into a ball before rolling towards Pikachu.
"Not this time, Pikachu use electroball," Ash shouts as Pikachu leaps up into the air and forms a ball of electricity on his tail. He throws the ball towards the oncoming Graveler smacking into his opponent causing him to stumble back and cancel the rollout.
Ash decides to keep himself on the offensive as he shouts "Use iron tail." Pikachu nods and leaps into the air with a metal coated tail.
"Counter with thunder punch," Olivia exclaims. Graveler obeys orders and clocks his fist back before slamming it towards Pikachu. The two attacks collide and push both Pokémon back. Olivia shouts "Rock tomb go!" Graveler summons a dozen rocks and throws them towards Pikachu. "Swat them away with iron tail," Ash commands. Pikachu leaps up into the air and slams the incoming rocks away from him using his metal coated tail. "Now use thunder bolt." Ash yells as Pikachu sparks his cheeks and screams "Pikaaaaachuuuuuu!!!" The bolt of lightning smacks into Graveler and forces the rock type Pokémon back.
Olivia stamps her foot against the ground and says in a commanding tone "No more playing around use bulldoze." Graveler jumps up and down causing the ground to shake. Sonic waves start to form in the ground and head straight towards Pikachu.
In the crowd Kiawe says "A ground type move like bulldoze will be super effective against Pikachu Ash needs to find a way out of this." Mallow looks down to the battlefield as Ash doesn't make a command. She raises her eyebrow and says "What's he doing."
Ash grins and says "Just a little longer Pikachu." Pikachu nods and says "Pika," as the sonic waves near. "Now!!" Ash shouts as Pikachu leaps forward and slams his tail of iron into the ground. The impact of iron tail and the sonic waves colliding sends Pikachu flying up into the air. The crowd cheer as Olivia gasps and says "What the?" Ash grins and punches the air as Pikachu starts to descend. "Wrap this up with iron tail Pikachu." He commands. Pikachu descends towards Graveler and smacks his tail into him while shouting "Pika!" The attack sends Graveler tumbling back smacking straight into a nearby wall.
The impact creates a little bit of dust that blocks out everyone's vision. It quickly evaporates as the crowd cheers seeing Graveler laid out inside a small crater in the wall. The referee exclaims "Graveler is unable to battle Pikachu is the winner." "Great job buddy," Ash exclaims as Pikachu runs back over to him with a smile on his face.
In the crowd Mallow says "So that's what he was doing." Kiawe laughs lightly and says "It should be no surprise. Ash and Pikachu have surely dealt with type disadvantage before they were bound to have a few counters up their sleeves. Lillie smiles and adds "And now their all tied up."
Back down on the battlefield, Olivia returns Graveler and thanks him for his efforts. She then looks up a Ash and says "You know that was more like what I was expecting." Ash smirks and says "Glad we could entertain you." Olivia chuckles at the boy's attitude before she takes on a more serious look. "I hope you don't think this is over yet." Ash shakes his head and says "We're only just getting started." Olivia takes a pokeball out of her pocket and says "I look forward to seeing what else you bring." She throws the pokeball forward and says "Go Probopass." A Probopass comes out of their pokeball and cries out. Ash raises an eyebrow and says "A Probopass huh, then I'm gonna stick with Pikachu." Pikachu leaps onto the battlefield while sparking his cheeks towards his opponent.
Olivia makes the first move of the battle as she raises her hand forward and shouts "Use flash cannon." Probopass nods and shoots out a clear beam towards Pikachu. "Use electroball," Ash shouts as Pikachu leaps up into the air and throws a ball of electricity towards Probopass. The two attacks clash and cause a small explosion. "Use iron tail," Ash shouts as Pikachu leaps into the air and slams his tail towards Probopass. "Iron head," Olivia counters as Probopass tucks his head and slams himself forward. The two attacks collide once again and push both Pokemon back.
Pikachu lands on his feet shaking off the damage. Ash instantly calls out "Use thunderbolt." Pikachu nods and leaps onto the air while sparking his cheeks with electricity. "Pikachuuu!" He shouts as he fires off a bolt of lightning towards Probopass. Olivia watches the electric type move approaching and calmly says "You know what to do." Probopass lands on the ground and digs his floating rocks into the ground. The electricity smacks into him causing a yellow glow to come over him for a second before it quickly disappears. Ash gasps "What." Olivia doesn't warrant Ash with a response instead she commands "Earth power." Probopass digs his rocks into the ground and sends out a powerful earth power towards Pikachu. The ground type move quickly approaches the electric move and smacks him hard causing the electric mouse to cry out in pain.
Pikachu flies up into the air and lands hard. Ash shouts out with a look of concern "Are you okay Pikachu." Pikachu struggles and pulls himself back to his feet. Olivia smirks and says "How do you like my anti electric strategy Ash." In the stands Lillie questions "What happened Kiawe."
"Probopass used his rocks to root himself into the ground therefore neutralising the incoming electricity."
Back down on the battlefield Ash grits his teeth and says "There's always a way to win. Me and Pikachu won't back down." Ash thinks in his head "I've got to find a way around that strategy. If only....wait that's it." He shouts out load "Pikachu use quick attack."
Pikachu kicks off while glowing in a faint white aura. "Use power gem," Olivia counters. Probopass obliges and sends a group of stones towards Pikachu. "Dodge it Pikachu," Ash shouts, Pikachu nods to his trainer and side steps the oncoming rocks while still using quick attack. "Iron head," Olivia commands. Probopass obliges and charges toward Pikachu. Ash smirks as he thinks to himself "Perfect." He punches the air and shouts "Now Pikachu use iron tail and aim for one of Probopass's rocks." Pikachu nods and slams his tail of Iron forward straight into one of Probopass's rocks. The iron tail sends the rock across the field out of Probopass's reach as Pikachu takes a step back already anticipating his trainers next command.
"Pikachu use electroball." Pikachu leaps up into the air with a ball of electricity formed on his tail. He flips and sends the ball towards Probopass as Olivia's eyes widen releasing her anti electricity strategy is ineffective with all rocks not in play. The ball of electricity slams into Probopass causing him to stagger back. "Wrap this one up with thunderbolt," Ash exclaims while pumping his fist. Pikachu nods and sparks his cheeks with electricity while shouting "Pikaaaaaachuuuuu!" The bolt of thunder springs off towards Probopass who's eyes widen releasing he has no escape. The attack lands causing a huge explosion. The Crowd shudders as they wait for the result of the collision. Once the smoke clears Probopass lays on the ground with swirls in his eyes while Pikachu breaths heavy with marks covering his body. The referee exclaims "Probopass is unable to battle, Pikachu is the winner."
Ash pumps his fist and shouts "Great job buddy." The crowd cheers loudly as Pikachu looks back at Ash and gives him a weary smile. In the crowd Lillie exclaims "Pikachu is so strong." Kiawe says "Ash has certainly raised him well but he's also taken a massive risk." Mallow raises her eyebrow and says "What do you mean Kiawe."
"As we know a kahuna always keeps their strongest for last. And a Kahuana's ace are considered some of the strongest Pokémon in Alola." Lillie says "So your worried Pikachu is too worn out to take it on." Kiawe nods and says "Precisely."
Back down on the battlefield Olivia returns Probopass to his pokeball and thanks him for his hard work. She looks at Ash with a small smile and says "It was very impressive to see someone find a way to over come our anti electric strategy." Ash smiles and says "Thanks for your praise, but this battle is far from over yet." Olivia takes a pokeball out of her pocket and says "I agree and this pokemon will be your biggest test yet." She throws the pokeball forward and shouts "Lycanroc, it's time for battle." Her Lycanroc mid day form pops out of his pokeball and howls much to the happiness of the crowd at seeing the kahuna's ace.
Ash smirks and whispers "It was always going to be Lycanroc." He looks at Pikachu who looks a little worse for wear. Ash thinks about giving him a break to rest but the electric mouse looks at his trainer with a confident look. Ash trusts in his first Pokémon and decides to stick with him.
Olivia makes the first move as she points her hand forward and shouts "Use stone edge." Lycanroc nods and slams his legs into the ground sending stones straight through the ground towards Pikachu. "Use thunderbolt," Ash counters as Pikachu sparks his cheeks and sends out a bolt off thunder towards Lycanroc. The two attacks clash and cause a small explosion. "Use iron tail," both trainers shout in unison. Pikachu and Lycanroc both leap into the air and turn their tails into pure metal. The two clash tails together and fall back towards the ground landing successfully on their feet.
"Use electroball," Ash exclaims as Pikachu flips into the air sending a ball of electricity towards Lycanroc. The ball of electricity slams into the rock type Pokémon causing him to stagger back. Ash smiles smugly and continues to push the offensive. "Use iron tail," Pikachu nods and leaps towards Lycanroc with a tail coated in steel. "Use fire fang," Oliva command as Lycanroc leaps forward towards Pikachu and bites down on his tail of metal before throwing the electric type backwards who lands on his feet while panting extremely heavy from the exhaustion of now entering his 3rd battle.
"Use thunderbolt," Ash exclaims as Pikachu sparks his cheeks with electricity and sends out a bolt of lightning towards Lycanroc. "Dodge it," Oliva exclaims as Lycanroc rolls out the way of the incoming electric type attack. "Now use accelrock," the island kahuna commands. Lycanroc glows in a faint white aura before launching himself towards Pikachu. "Use quick attack," Ash exclaims as Pikachu kicks off towards Lycanroc while glowing in a faint white aura. The two attacks clash and both Pokémon struggle back but Pikachu is panting a lot heavier than the fresher Lycanroc.
"Use stone edge," Olivia commands. Lycanroc slams his front legs into the ground and sends out stones from the ground towards Pikachu. "Dodge it," Ash shouts. Pikachu tries to dodge the attack but gets clipped by the rocks as he stumbles to the ground. Ash shouts "Pikachu no!" The electric mouse struggles and gets himself to a vertical basis while panting heavily and covered in marks. "Use accelrock," Olivia commands as Lycanroc charges towards Pikachu while glowing with a faint white aura. "Use iron tail." Ash commands as Pikachu gathers the last of his strength and leaps forward with a tail coated in iron before slamming it towards Lycanroc. The two attacks clash and cause an explosion. The crowd cheers loudly at the back and forth action while Ash grits his teeth. The explosion clears as the crowds cheers get even louder upon seeing the result. Lycanroc stands on one side panting a little heavily with a few scratches on his body. Meanwhile on the other side Pikachu lays with swirls in his eyes. "Pikachu is unable to battle, Lycanroc is the winner the referee exclaims."
Olivia smiles and says "good job Lycanroc." Lycanroc nods back to his trainer with a serious expression on his face still prepared for more action. In the Crowd Jangmo-0 looks a little disheartened having seen Pikachu someone he respects highly lose. Lillie notices the sad baby Pokémon and says "Cheer up Jangmo-o the battle isn't over yet." Jangmo-o smiles a little but still looks a bit unsure. Mallow says "How can Ash beat Lycanroc." Kiawe replies "It's not going to be easy it's well trained for sure."
Back down on the battlefield Ash collects Pikachu and cradles him in his arms. He looks down at the electric mouse and says "Youe were awesome buddy. Now just leave the rest to us." Pikachu nods and Ash walks to his trainer box and places him on the ground to rest. Ash reaches down and grabs a pokeball of his belt. He whispers to it "This is the fight you wanted. Go and prove yourself."
He throws the pokeball forward and shouts "Rockruff I choose you." Rockruff comes out of the pokeball full of energy as he barks. His eyes lock with Lycanroc and he growls as his eyes start to turn red. Olivia chuckles lightly and says "I've been looking forward to seeing this little one." Ash looks at Rockruff and shouts "Rockruff I know you have been waiting for this battle and I know how much this means to you. But remember like we practiced we need to channel your anger and not let it blind you." Rockruff looks back at Ash with red eyes and nods "Ruff." Ash smiles that Rockruff is finally starting to listen to him while he's angry and shouts "Let's give it everything we've got."
Olivia laughs and makes the first move. "Lycanroc use stone edge." Lycanroc nods and smashes his front legs into the ground sending a line of rocks towards Rockruff. "Use stone edge too," Ash commands. Rockruff nods and slams his front legs into the ground as well as a similar line of stones heads towards Lycanroc. The two attacks clash and are evenly matches causing a small explosion. "Use thunder fang," Ash commands as Rockruff leaps forward with thunder emanating from his fangs. "Use fire fang," Olivia counters. Lycanroc leaps forward furiously as fire spreads from his fangs. The two attacks clash against each other and force them both back.
Feeling the damage from the collision Rockruff's eyes continue to grow even more red. Ash points his hand forward and shouts "Use Rock throw." Rockruff growls with rage and forms a boulder in front of him before throwing it towards Lycanroc. "Smash it with iron tail," Olivia says with a small smirk. Lycanroc obliges and turns his tail into pure metal before slamming it straight through the rock. The wolf like pokemon lands on all 4s and glares at his opponent who only growls with rage in response.
Ash notices his pokemon starting to lose control and shouts "Rockruff keep calm and use bite" Rockruff barks and charges forward towards Lycanroc with his fangs extended. Olivia puts on a serious look and commands "Use accelrock." Lycanroc growls and glows with a white aura before charging towards Rockruff at high speeds. The larger Pokémon smacks his body in to smaller one and sends him flying into the floor with a cry of pain. Ash gasps and says in a concerned tone "You okay Rockruff." Rockruff doesn't respond to his trainer as he gets back to his feet with a new look in his eyes. His eyes grow redder and redder as they nearly bulge out of his eye sockets.
Without warning he charges towards Lycanroc with his fangs extended once again, completely blinded by his own rage. Ash can only watch on as Lycanroc easily moves out the way of the blind attack. Olivia calmly says "Iron tail," with a not so impressed look on her face. Lycanroc obliges and smacks Rockruff with his iron coated tail. Rockruff flies backwards from the vicious attack and hits a large rock that kicks up a cloud of dust. Ash lowers his head slightly at the sight and whispers solemnly "Rockruff..."
In the crowd Lillie says in a downed tone "Poor Rockruff." Mallow says "It looks like Rockruff is out matched by Lycanroc." Kiawe shakes his head and says "Not only that he's lost control of his emotions, if Ash can't sort him out then this one's over.
Back on the battlefield Rockruff struggles to get up as he desperately claws the floor with marks and scratches all over his body. Ash shouts with an intense look "Rockruff, I know we have trained hard for this ever since you last faced a Lycanroc and lost. I know how much this means to you and I know what it's like not to feel good enough or strong enough. But like I told you on the beach I promised we'd get stronger together. Rockruff I believe In you I know we can still win this battle together."
Rockruff looks back at ash gives him a tearful nod as his eyes start to lose their glow. He then turns to see Olivia's lycanroc taunting the small dog telling him to bring it on. Rockruff's eyes darken as he claws the floor desperately dragging himself up to his feet. He gets to his feet and howls loudly as the sky suddenly glows with a green shade and turns dusky. Ash smirks and calls out "That's it Rockruff let's show everyone what we've got." Rockruff nods and looks up to the sky with an intense look. He points his head high into the sky and screams with rage "Rockkkkkruuuuuuffffffff!!!!!"
Rockruff howls and starts to glow with blue light as his body grows and changes. Olivia says with a stunned look in her eyes "No, it can't be." As the light disappears a new Pokémon stands in Rockruff's place. One which is similar looking to Olivia's Lycanroc but at the same time completely different. Ash scratches his head and says "What form is that." He scans the pokemon using his Pokédex which tells him that this Lycanroc form hasn't been seen in centuries and is known as dusk form Lycanroc. Ash smiles and whispers to himself "I knew you were special."
He then looks up as Lycanroc turns around with his green eyes locked on Ash. Ash pumps his fist with a small smile on his face and says "Your awesome Lycanroc, now let's show everyone our new power." Lycanroc nods back to his trainer and lets off a loud howl as the crowd all cheer losing their minds as seeing this new form of Lycanroc. In the crowd Lillie smiles and says "I can't believe it evolved. Mallow smirks and says "This battle just got a whole lot more interesting." Kiawe smirks and says "Once again Ash, once again."
Back on the battlefield Olivia regains her composure and says "I must admit I'm shocked. Ash I want you and Lycanroc to show me your true strength." Ash pumps his fist and replies "We're not holding back. Lycanroc use accelrock." Lycanroc nods and glows with a white aura before charging his opponent. "Use accelrock too," Olivia commands as her Lycanroc glows white and charges forward. The two attacks collide as Ash's lycanroc manages to overpower Olivia's and sending him crashing into a nearby rock.
Lycanroc lands back on the ground as Ash shouts "Use stone edge." Ash's Lycanroc stamps his feet against the floor sending stones towards Olivia's Lycanroc which connect launching Olivia's Lycanroc up in the air before smacking the ground hard. Olivia gasps and says "Are you okay Lycanroc." Her Lycanroc struggles and gets back up to his feet. She points her arm forward and commands then use "Fire fang." Her Lycanroc nods and charges forward with fangs of fire. "Use thunder fang," Ash calls out as his Lycanroc charges forward with fangs giving of electricity. The two attacks clash and cause both Pokémon to stagger back towards their trainers.
Olivia puts on a serious look as she shouts "It's time to end this," She holds up her z ring into the air as it glows with z energy. "It's time to face our full power, you ready Lycanroc." Her lycanroc nods as she energy starts to form all around his body. "Use continental crush!" Olivia shouts as Lycanroc forces a massive rock that hovers above Ash's Lycanroc. The rock slowly lowers as the crowd wait in anticipation for the powerful z move to land. Ash shakes his head and says "Be patient Lycanroc not yet." Ash's Lycanroc barks back to his trainer putting full trust in him. Olivia shouts "Release now." Her Lycanroc cries out and throws the boulder at his opponent. Ash smirks and says "Now use accelrock." Lycanroc nods and glows with a white aura and charges away from the z move as it slowly lowers. Olivia frowns and screams "No you don't, Lycanroc smack him into the Z move with accelrock." Her Lycanroc obliges and charges towards Ash's. Ash smirks and says "Now throw Lycanroc into the z move with counter." Ash's Lycanroc grins and he flips the incoming Lycanroc right as he was about to land the attack. Olivia's Lycanroc flips and hits the ground as the z move hovers above him. Him and his trainers eyes widen as the z move crashes down on him causing a huge explosion. The crowd watch on in anticipation as they wait the result of the attack. The dust settles, the battlefield comes into sight. On one side Ash's Lycanroc stands up panting heavily with scratches on his body. On the other Olivia's Lycanroc lays in a crater with swirls in his eyes as the crowd goes ballistic with cheers. The referee raises his flag and says "Olivia's Lycanroc is unable to battle, Ash's Lycanroc is the winner. That means the battle goes to the challenger Ash Ketchum from Pallet town."
Ash pumps his fist in celebration and shouts "We did it Lycanroc!" Lycanroc looks at Ash with disbelief for a second before he smiles and tackles his trainer into a hug. Ash laughs and says "I told you we'd do it Lycanroc." Up in the crowd Lillie cries out "They did it." Kiawe laughs and says "Using someone else's z move to your advantage, that's unbelievable." Mallow smiles and says "Well this is Ash we're talking about."
Back on the battlefield Ash and Lycanroc celebrate as they are approached by Olivia. Ash thanks Olivia for the battle but she is quick to thank Ash as she says "It was an honour to see Rockruff evolve into its dusk form right before my eyes, this is something that very few trainers have ever achieved so to witness it in person was a privilege you and Lycanroc are truly very special."
Ash smiles and says "Thank you Olivia, but we would never have been able to bring out that power if you never pushed us so hard." Olivia shakes her head and says "No this is all on you all we did was battle you like we do with any normal trainer. This z crystal is proof of your victory against me I hope you will use it wisely." Ash takes the z crystal and says "You bet I will. I promise I won't let you down." Ash's friends join him down on the battlefield as they congratulate Ash and all say their goodbyes to Olivia.
Olivia says "You are free to take on Sophocles the electric type wiz kid of ula ula island once you are ready." Ash nods and says "Sure, I plan on heading there soon but first we need to head back to the school to inform professor Kukui of our progress. They all nod to Ash as they begin to travel back towards the dock to get the boat back to melemele.

A few house later, Ash and his freinds start to travel back to melemele after healing up at the pokemon centre when they stopped by a random stranger who seems in a panic. The woman runs up to Ash and the gang screaming "Miss Lillie." Lillie turns around and her face lights up when she gets sight of the women. "Wicke,!" She shouts with a smile on her face.
Wicke and Lillie hug as Lillie says "It's so good to see you again." Wicke replies "Oh dear, it's good to see you too, your looking well." Lille smiles and says "Thank you it's all because of the help of my friends."
"That's wonderful, I'm really happy for you," Wicke replies with a motherly smile. Lillie asks with slight confusion in her voice "It's good to see you and all but what brings you out here." Wicke's face sours a bit as she says "Lillie I'm sorry but I've not come here just to see you, it's about your mother."
Lillie tilts her head and curiously asks "What's she up to now." Wicke sighs and says "I'm sorry but it looks like Ms Lusamine and Guzma have found a new way to open up an ultra wormhole.
"An ultra wormhole what is that Wicke, Lillie asks." She bows apologetically and says "Excuse me miss Lillie. An ultra wormhole is a portal to another universe. Your mother is hoping to use this portal to meet and capture the ultra beast, to meet and capture Nihilego. They then plan to use this power to take over the Alola region. Your mother only wants to do this to make a better Alola and to find your father but she's going about it the wrong way. She's going to harm others to get what she wants. As for guzma I fear he may have an alternative motive."
Lillie puts on a determined look and says with authority "Wicke, we can't let that happen. I can't remember much from before but one thing I do know is she was once my mother she once cared deeply about me and my brother. Something must have happened that's made her this way. I can't sit around and do nothing while she destroys herself. All I want is my mother back. My happy family back. That's all dad would have wanted too. I'm going to get her back no matter takes." Wicke is shocked by this answer, the timid Lillie she knew has clearly grown up on her journey with her friends.
Wicke sighs and says "That is very brave of you miss Lillie but I'm afraid we can't do much on our own, we need to find the one they call Mr Ketchum." Ash upon hearing his surname speaks up and says "Um that would be me." Wicke holds up a picture of Ash during the Kalos disaster on her tablet and compares it the boy in front of her. After a few seconds she says "Oh yes it is you, my apologise."
Ash shakes his head and says "No need to apologise and please just call me Ash."
"Okay thank you Ash," she replies with a warm smile. "We need your help to stop them you are the only one they are afraid of. The only one who has the means to stop their plans. Well you and Null." Ash questions "Null you mean Gladion right."Wicke says "Yes, he is on his way to aether paradise as well as we speak." Ash nods and says "Great, we'll need all the help we can get." Kiawe says "I'm coming too." Mallow adds "I'm coming too, if it means something to Lillie of course we're in." Lillie smiles and thanks the trio.
Wicke says "Great we better get moving then." Ash stops her and says "Wait, before we go there's one thing I'm confused about." Wicke raises her eyebrow and says "Yes, what is it Ash."
"Well from what I can gather the only ways to open an ultrawormhole is through an ultra beast or through cosmieums full power. So what is this new way they have found."
Wicke puts her head down and takes a deep sigh. "I was hoping to avoid telling you this but Ash, they are using your power." Ash confused says "Huh my power." Wicke says "Yes unfortunately it is true. They are using the Z power you use in battle plus the special aura you give off to reverse engineer into the same power used to open an ultra wormhole. I'm sorry to say Ash they've been using you behind your back the whole time."
Ash stays silent for a second and ponders "How are they using me, and how do they even know about me? It doesn't make any sense, I'd never willing help anyone with evil intentions but it looks like I've messed up somewhere. " He then says aloud "So they're using me, Wicke tell me how do they collect this power off me." Wicke shakes her head and says "Sorry, but I haven't been able to figure this out and I don't have free access to their labs to investigate."
Ash thinks for a second back to his earlier conversation with Lusamine. He remembers her taking a great interest in his Z ring. He thinks for a few seconds before he realises it must have something to do with it. He takes the z ring off his wrist and inspecst it for a minute before finding a small device attached to the side. He rips it off and crushes it with his bare hands with a look of rage in his eyes.
Ash thinks to himself "They used me just like team flare did with Alain, it's up to me to fix this. I messed up it's mine to put right." He turns to Lillie with an apologetic look in his eye. He says "I'm sorry, you warned me about your mother but I failed to heed that warning. I'm sorry that I have failed you Lillie. I promised I that I wouldn't let your mother get one over on us and now she's about to hurt a lot of innocent people and pokemon because of me."
Lillie shakes her head and defiantly says "Ash you haven't failed yet, it's not your fault she tricked you. You can still put this right. We all can." Kiawe and Mallow then follow up and give Ash some more encouragement.
Ash smiles at his friends when his mind suddenly flashes and he senses a presence watching him. A familiar feeling sinks over him as he closes his eyes to see a familiar blue ninja frog pokemon stood on top of a tree in a forest. Ash smiles a little and says through Aura "Hey Greninja, I'm guessing you heard I messed up" Greninja shakes his head and raises a fist to his heart. He says "You didn't mess up. We did. If you need me then I'll be there asap just say the word."
Ash thinks it over for a second. Greninja would certainly be great to have right about now. When heading into potentially world threatening conflicts it would help to have your strongest ally alongside you. However calling Greninja back here would only prolong his work in Kalos and with Greninja missing for even a few days that threat could escalate out of hand. Ash sighs and says "Greninja I appreciate the offer but I need you in Kalos. The threat there could get a lot worse if you leave now." Greninja nods and says "I trust your judgement, if anyone can beat this it's you. Just remember our promise. I don't intend to break it and I know you don't either, after all I know exactly what you think." Ash smiles and says "I won't Greninja, if anything comes up I'll let you know." Greninja nods as the two break their connection leaving Ash to snap back to his senses.
Wicke says in a concerned tone "Ash are you alright, it looked like you blanked out for a second." Ash smiles and says "Don't worry I was just speaking with an old friend now let's go and save Alola. It's time to put my mistakes behind me and stop this mess for good." The group raise their eyebrows at Ash's comment but ultimately let it slide as Ash marches towards aether paradise with a determined look on his face.

So I hope that last little scene gets you hyped up for the next special chapter.
It's going to be a little like a movie chapter I suppose and will be the climax to what I kinda call season 1
Not like that means I'm taking a break or anything or that I'll be making a separate book it's more like a season finale if you will.
