All in all, it comes down to the Inflexible Society's Unspoken Rules.

Rule Number 1: The Ever-Growing Age

The proper age for a woman to get married ranges between twenty-five to thirty-two. Fail, and be single for the rest of your life.

The proper age for a man to get married is whenever he likes, but make sure he does not cross forty. Because then, all that will be left to him are women divorced or separated.

#TimeWillSueYou

Rule Number 2: The Difference in Age

It's okay for a man to marry a woman who is younger than him. The mere fact exists like gravity. It only works one way.

It's never okay when an older woman marries a younger man. They do marry, but it's frowned upon. People comment irrespective of your class or the society you choose to live in.

#TimeWillSueYouTwice

Rule Number 3: The Taboo Topic

Most Indian families almost never educate their children about sex since it is generally regarded as a taboo topic, and yet they hope for grandchildren within the first two years of marriage.

Err... Gyan ka fal?

#LeaveThatKnowledgeForChildrenToFind

Rule Number 4: Height of Prejudice

If a woman crosses thirty, it's okay for her to receive proposals from men who are either divorced, legally separated, or are currently widowers. If she gets married to a 'freshman', she's lucky. If not, well, she should have thought of that before.

If a man crosses thirty, he can still marry an eighteen-year-old. (provided the law does not prohibit it)

Rule Number 5: The Idea of marriage starts way too early in a bizarre form

Rule Number 6: Preconceived Notions

If a couple cannot conceive even after two years into marriage, the first thought is usually 'Female infertility' because it is. The rest comes later. Much later.

Rule Number 7: The Division of Work

It's okay to be a housewife. It's not okay to be a house-husband.

#WorkHasNoGender
