Serena's POV
I sat down on my bed in the Pokémon centre and took a deep sigh. What a day that was. We were training for our next contest when Braxien and pancham got into their standard argument leading to the usual scene off Sylveon tying the two up with her ribbons to restrain them.
However unlike usual I didn't have my usual meltdown where I scream at them and tell them how stressful my life is and that I don't need them causing anymore trouble. Instead I just laughed it off and told them both that they are doing a great job. Why was I in such a good mood you may ask. Because I'm in a relationship with Ash Ketchum off course!
Never, and I don't say this lightly never thought that Ash would ever confess to me. In fact I had completely dismissed that as even being a possibility but it happened. And if I'm being honest. It was better than I could have ever dreamt.
The way he spoke about me the look in his auburn eyes as the sun reflected off him. The way the wind blew his raven hair, the way he stuttered and nervously admitted his feelings made my heart do a happy dance. When the words "I love you," left his mouth I nearly ascended to heaven. Ash, dense Ash Ketchum loved me.
So now that we're in a relationship but we're miles apart how does it feel. Well like he's still close to me surprisingly. And why is that? Well because as Ash said "our hearts will always be as one." It was because of the power of aura.
When Ash first drew my attention to the power that binds us together I was: nervous, excited and scared all at the time! It was intimidating at first but after Ash and I spoke on the phone the other day it calmed me down so much. First off talking to Ash as a couple was so much more enthralling then before. We always got along but it always felt like there was this barrier between us that stopped us from really expressing ourselves. However after revealing our feelings no topic felt untouchable and every conversation was full off life. It was the best phone call I've ever had in my life.
Anyway back on topic we spoke about a lot of things but the main topic of conversation was our aura. Ash explained to me how he first discovered aura and how he met the noble sir Arron off Rota. Part off me was so jealous hearing the tale not of Ash no, jealous of his companions he was with. It makes me wonder if I should have started my own journey to find that boy from summer camp years before, but everything worked out in the end so I should probably neglect that thought.
After learning about the aura guardians I understood it a little better. Ash then told me about how he didn't use aura for years after those events until it awakened again that day in ninja village. I remember seeing frogadier evolve into Greninja and being super excited but then it happened. I flashback to that moment. "Well we're going to get stronger and stronger let'z goooooo."
A watery vortex surrounded them both. I'm not going to lie, at first I was scared that Ash was going to drown but then it disappeared while it remained around Greninja. The vortex surrounded him still but we could see some changes underneath it to Greninja's appearance. That was the day Ash-Greninja was born and apparently because they both connected through aura.
At first I nearly scolded Ash for keeping this a secret. We all Clemont especially put a lot off effort into finding out why the transformation happened when all along Ash knew why. He quickly defended himself and told me that he didn't realise at the time it was only recently he remembered using aura and synchronisation feeling very similar. I calmed down it made sense I mean no other Greninja had used aura before so I guess he wouldn't have made that connection.
So that's when we started to discuss what our shared power was and why we could connect. It seems as though it was similar to the way Ash and Greninja could connect but it had its own challenges. Ash told me all about our current powers. He explained that so far we can see through each others eyes if we close our eyes and think really hard about one and other. Now I don't want to seem like a stalker but I already knew that.
I have been using my aura constantly to spy on Ash. Not because I'm insecure or anything no Ash is too much off a gentleman to ever cheat. No it was because I was obsessed with him I just loved seeing his face and checking up on his day. I've seen everything so far from his battle at the school to the team rocket fight yesterday. I've missed somethings in between but I've got a pretty good idea on what Ash has done so far.
Naturally we decided to make ground rules with this power straight away. Yes we loved each other but everyone needed their privacy. We agreed no aura powers in the hours where we would change or bathe. Maybe we could tweak those rules later but right now our relationship had just started and it wasn't time to push things.
We then decided to discuss what the next step was to growing our powers. Ash explained that the key difference right now between how he connects with Greninja and how he connects with me is communication. Him and Greninja are able to communicate freely through either speech or thought kind like a brainwave while they are synchronised. However we can't communicate at all not through any method. It's something I really want to master being able to send ash a message every time I check up on him would be perfect.
Ash seemed to agree to so we made a deal. We'd limit phone communication unless it is absolutely necessary in order to force us to use aura. It's going to suck to not speak to Ash as much but it's all to get stronger and to get closer to one and other so I'm willing to try
it. So we agreed next time we want to speak to each other we have to try it through aura first. After that we both said I love you a billon times and put the phone down.
Which is what brings me to right now I really want to hear Ash's voice. It was time to go for broke and try it. I slowly closed my eyes and dreamed about Ash his raven hair, his z mark cheeks his oh okay you get it I think he's dreamy. My mind flashes for a second and goes black. My mind suddenly switches back on and I can see through Ash's eyes.
It seems as though he was walking through a forest with his new friends. Pikachu is perched on his shoulder as usual and his eyes are firmly set on the road off him. I take a deep breath and focus before I let the words leave my tongue. "Hey Ash it's me, if you can hear me then smile." I asked him to smile half as a sign and more just because I loved to see him smile. His facial expression turned to one off shock before he stopped walking completely. His lips suddenly curved into a smile as he showed me his signature toothy grin. I mentally cheered yes he can hear me I can talk to Ash whenever I want.
However it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. His smile slowly vanished and my head started to spin and I felt super nauseous. Suddenly my mind flashed and I returned to my own vision.
I sat up and held my head as I groaned. Great Ash and I can speak but for only a few seconds before we're cut off. What good was that well not much, but I knew I had to think positive it worked. I did tell him something and he did hear it! I laid back down on my bed with a smile on my lips and a glint in my cerulean eyes. I closed them in time and drifted off into a deep sleep dreaming about my future.

Ash and his and new friends walk through the forest on the way to verdant cavern and Ash's first trial. On the way the 3 other members are slightly ahead while Ash and Pikachu bring up the rear. Ash continues to walk with a straight face until he hears a voice in his head. "Hey Ash it's me, if you can hear me smile." Ash stops waking and looks absolutely gobsmacked. He stands there and says to himself "Serena actually managed to speak to me." He then curves his face into a smile while looking up into the Alolan sky. He says to himself "I'm so proud."
Ash ponders his reply when he suddenly feels a cold blow off wind against his neck that makes him shiver. For some reason it feels like something left him like he dropped something and left it on the ground.
Ash instantly frowns as his thoughts fill his head. It doesn't take him long to realise what happened. He realises that Serena must have communicated through aura but due to their inexperience using the phenomenon they couldn't hold the connection after communicating for a more then a few seconds.
Ash just smiles at the floor and tilts his hat over his eyes. He whispers "looks like it's going to take us a bit longer to master. But we're making progress and with Serena's help I know we can achieve anything." Pikachu looks down at Ash from his shoulder in confusion and squeaks "pika pika." Ash smiles and pats him on the head. He says "don't worry buddy I'm okay." He looks up the road to see the others quite a bit down the road. Ash smirks and says "come on pikachu let's go and catch up the others." Pikachu nods and jumps down laughing as him and Ash chase after the rest off the crew.

Ash and pikachu quickly catch up and join up with the rest off the group. They continue to walk and talk with making their way to their destination. Ash smiles and says "and that's how I caught my first Pokémon." Kiawe laughs and says "it took you long enough from the sounds off it you had some issues." Ash scratches the back off his head and says nervously "yeah I certainly wasn't the best rookie trainer." Pikachu laughs from Ash's shoulder remembering all his rookie mistakes.
Mallow smiles and questions "so ash when are you going to capture your first Pokémon in Alola." Ash shrugs and says "when I can I guess I mean I don't chasing pokemon to capture anymore I just kind off let us meet by fate." The 3 off them look at eachover with a little confusion. Liile says "they don't teach you that in school." Ash smirks and says "that's why your here and not in school right." The three look at eachover with a fair point expression.
The 4 continue to walk until they're silence is interrupted with an explosion and a cry off pain. Lille jumps and panics. She freaks out and shouts. "What was that." Ash clenches his fists and looks serious. He says "it sounded like an explosion." Kiawe points to a cloud off smoke in the air and gestures to it. He says "it sounds like it came from this way come on." Mallow nods and says "right." The 3 run off in that direction as Lillie pouts "why do we always run towards the danger." She looks around and notices that everyone has left and she is now alone in the forest. She looks around scared and decides it's best to go with the others. She shouts "hold on guys wait for me."
Lille catches up and the 4 run through the trees until they reach a clearing in the forest. Once they do they see two small Pokémon. One is a bird like pokemon with electricity surfing through it as it lays on the floor in considerable pain. The others is a small bug like pokemon with a sinister look on his face.
Ash looks at the two while with drawing his Pokédex. He says "who are those pokemon." He scans the first revealing it to a Grubin." He scans the second revealing the injured bird pokemon to be a Pikipeck. Mallow says "what do yo think is going on Ash." Ash analysis the battle and find deduces " that Pikipeck and Grubin must have been having a battle but it looks like Pikipeck must have lost."
Grubin walks over to the downed Pikipeck with a sinister look. He sparks with electricity as he gets ready to deliver another attack to the downed Pikipeck who is already unable to battle. Kiawe says with a panic in his tone "I'm not sure Grubin sees it the same way as you."
Ash acts instantly extending his arm forward and shouting pikachu stop Grubbin with quick attack." Pikachu nods and clicks off with white light surrounding him. He tackles into Grubin right before he can land the final attack sending him to the floor with a hint off pain. Pikachu stands in front off the downed Pikipeck and gestures Grubin to bring it on as he shouts "Pika."
Grubbin looks at Pikachu and realises he's out matched. He quickly digs underground and flees the battle. The rest off the crew rush after Pikachu. Ash nods to his partner and says "nice work buddy." Pikachu smiles and cries "pika pika pi." Ash then makes his way over to the injured Pikipeck and takes a closer look at it.
Lille nervously asks "how's Pikipeck is it hurt." Ash picks up the stricken bird pokemon and says "it's been paralysed by that Grubbin it's pretty weak right now. He looks down at the Pokémon in his arms and says "we should give him some medicine and wait for him to heal up." Mallow nods and says "right I'll see what I can do."
The group off 4 settle down and make camp for a break. They focus on healing Pikipeck up by mashing up some Cheri berries into a bowl and feeding them too him. They leave him to rest as the rest off them sit and chat.
Kiawe sighs and says I wonder why Pikipeck and Grubbin were fighting. Ash shrugs and says "how knows it could have been a number off things the only thing we can do now is let him rest and ask when he wakes up." Mallow raises her eyebrow and says "speaking off which when do you think he'll be awake." Ash says "it shouldn't be too long, we should probably go and check on him."
Lille puts a hand up and nervously says "um Ash can I check on him please." Mallow looks at Lille concerned and says "on your own are you sure you can do it." Lille says with a determined look "I think I can do this." Ash smiles warningly and says "if you think you can handle it then go ahead." Liile smiles as she stands up and nods. She says "thank you Ash I will do my best."
Lilie makes her way over towards the sleeping Pikipeck. She watches him from a fair and takes a deep sigh. She whispers "Lillie just focus you can do this." She walks over and looks it at up close. She tilts her head and says "he looks okay I guess." She then looks at him closer and takes a deep breath. She whispers "you can this Lille just pet him."
She slowly lets her hand drift towards him while sweat drips off her forehead in anticipation. As her hand nears her eyes close and her breathing becomes erratic. Pikipeck opens his eyes to see a stray hand coming towards him. His eyes widen as he flies into the sky screaming "Piki Piki."
Lille opens her eyes and screams at the sudden movement making her jump. She looks at Pikipeck and runs away trembling as she reaches the group and instantly hides behind Ash.
Ash looks back an in a panicked tone says "Lille are you okay did something hurt you." Lille digs her head into Ash's back as tears stream down her cheeks. She mummers and stutters " H...he's... a aw...awake. Suddenly Pikipeck fly's over the group and lands on a small branch above them as he warns "peck peck Piki." Mallow gulps and says "he seems angry."
Ash takes a step forward and says "it's okay Pikipeck we're not going to hurt you." Pikipeck looks down at Ash with a questioning look. Ash smiles at him warmly and says "I'm sorry if Lille scared you we're kinda working on that." Pikipeck amylases Ash and senses no threat form him. In response he flies back down to the ground and lands on a small tree stump.
Ash smiles and says "it's nice to meet you Pikipeck let us introduce ourselves. My name is Ash and this is buddy Pikachu." Pikachu waves and shouts out "pika pi." Ash finishes off " and these are my friends: Mallow, kiawe and Lillie." Pikipeck waves back and squeaks "peck peck Piki peck." Everyone introduces themselves and start to get acquainted.
After the introductions Ash looks at Pikachu with a serious look and says "Pikipeck what was going on with that Grubbin earlier." Pikipeck looks down at the floor with a sad look and squeaks "Piki Piki Pikipeck." Ash looks at Pikachu and says "what did he say buddy." Pikachu jumps down off Ash's shoulder and mimes some actions while shouting "Pika Pi Pi Pika Pi Pikachu."
A few seconds later Ash manages to translate Pikachu's message. Ash looks at Pikipeck and says "I'm sorry Pikipeck that must be tough." Kiawe questions "what happened Ash." Ash turns to his friends and says a group off Grubbin have been trying to kick out the Pikipeck from their home so he tried fighting back and got hurt by their leader." Mallow frowns and says how horrible." Pikipeck looks at the floor with sadness and squeaks quietly "Piki." Ash approaches the flying type Pokémon with a smile on his face. He says "don't worry Pikipeck we'll help you get your home back."
Pikipeck looks up from the ground at the raven haired trainer and gives a look that screams would you really do that. Ash smiles and pats the bird on the head. He says "we'll do it together Pikipeck all we need to do is train." Pikipeck smiles and flies excitedly into the air while continuing to squeak. Ash pumps a fist and says "alright then training it is then."
Ash Pikachu and Pikipeck train in the forest clearing for an hour. The basis off Pikipeck's training is based on dodging and enduring Pikachu's electric attacks to counter Grubbin's thundershock that hurt it so much last time. After an hour or so off training with a few ups and downs Pikipeck is ready for his rematch with Grubbin.
The group make their way towards Pikipeck's home with the bird leading the way. On the way many other Pikipeck pop out from hiding spots in the trees and show their support for their friend. After a while off walking Ash and the crew find a clearing where the group off Grubbin are based.
They enter the clearing and Ash shouts "hey Grubbin you ready for round 2." The lead Grubbin looks up and digs his way to face off with Ash and Pikipeck. Grubbin looks at Pikipeck and scoffs. He gives him a look that says your not worth my time. Pikipeck flaps it's wings furiously and shouts "Piki Piki." Ash smirks and says "If thats the case then you won't mind getting us out your hair. All we want is a one on one battle the winner gets to stay here while the loser has to leave." Grubbin turns around and smirks before nodding in agreement.
Ash just smiles and says "okay then good luck Pikipeck you got this." Ash turns around to watch from a distance when Pikipeck tugs on his jacket. Ash turns around with a look off bewilderment and says "you want me to battle with you huh." Pikipeck nods and says "Piki Piki." Ash smiles and says "alright then we'll do this together."
Ash and Pikipeck stare down as they await the battle to start. The 3 have looks that could burn through lead. After a few seconds off waiting ash makes the first move off the battle. "Pikipeck use quick attack." Pikipeck nods and flies with a white glow straight towards Grubbin. Grubbin sees the attack coming and quickly digs under ground before the attack can land. Pikipeck floats in the air aimlessly looking around for where Grubbin went. He suddenly appears from a whole in the ground and lands a bite that causes some damage to Pikipeck as he loses control in the air before regaining it.
Ash looks at Pikipeck with gritted teeth and says "are you okay Pikipeck." Pikipeck grits his teeth and says "piki" suddenly Grubbin leaps into the air and releases a thunder shock. Ash smirks and says just like we practiced Pikipeck go underneath it to dodge then use peck. Pikipeck does as asked divebombing low to the ground before rising back up to land a powerful peck. Grubbin tumbles and crashes back to the ground.
Grubbin quickly recovers and sends out an even stronger electric move discharge. The whole area is quickly filled with electricity blinding everyone. Ash reacts quickly and shouts use double team. Pikipeck nods and creates about a dozen copies off himself as more electricity fills the area blocking everyone's view off the battle.
The electricity clears and the result is unclear to those watching. Grubbin is panting hard from the large amount off electricity used meanwhile Pikipeck is nowhere to be seen. Lille says nervously "Ash where's Pikipeck." Ash just smirks and says calmly use aerial ace." Suddenly Pikipeck appears from the shadows and delivers a powerful aerial ace that lands on an unsuspecting Grubbin causing a huge explosion. The dust settles as Grubbin lays on the floor with swirls in its eyes.
Pikipeck flies around ecstatic screaming "piki piki." Ash smiles and says "you were awesome Pikipeck." Pikipeck does a flip in air and lands on Ash's shoulder as the two laugh together celebrating their victory.
After a while the Grubbin have moved out off the area and the flock off Pikipeck have moved back in. The group stand in front off the flock as they prepare to say goodbye. Ash speaks first and says "well alls well that ends well I guess." He then locks directly at Pikipeck and says " it was great to battle alongside you Pikipeck if you ever need my help again just ask." Pikipeck looks up at Ash and smiles with a nod.
The rest off the group say their goodbyes as well and leave shortly after. As Ash leaves Pikipeck puts his head to the ground and looks strangely conflicted. Another Pikipeck approaches him and nods him to get his attention. He looks at him with a look that screams if it's what you want then do it. Pikipeck nods with a tear in his eye and takes off.
Ash and the gang walk down on the path as they continue on towards verdant cavern. Suddenly Ash feels something land on his shoulder and looks back to see a smiling Pikipeck. Ash looks and Pikipeck and comes to a stop. Confused he asks "what's the matter Pikipeck." Pikipeck squeaks and smiles "Piki peck peck." Ash smiles and says "you want to come with us." Pikipeck smiles and flies in the awe excitedly. Ash grabs a pokeball from his belt and says " in that case pokeball go." The pokeball hits Pikipeck and after 3 shakes he allowed himself to be caught.
Ash smiles and picks up the pokeball he shouts "alright I just caught a Pikipeck." Pikachu leaps in the air and shouts "Pi Pika Chu." Ash holds the pokeball towards the electric mouse and says "look buddy we've got our first friend in the alola region." Pikachu puts a thumbs up and jumps around in excitement. Ash looks at the pokeball and speaks to it. He says" I promise you me and you are going to keep getting stronger."
So Ash has caught his first Pokémon in the Alola region. Not only that but also him and Serena have found out more about their aura powers. Will they be able to master it one day? What Pokémon will ash catch next? What will happen in Ash's first island trial? Find out next time as the journey continues!
