Sasha Napier quickly downs her drink as the Joker watches curiously. When her eyes meet with his the Joker realizes a familiar look in her eyes. It was something present in his own eyes. But we're not talking about something hereditary. No, this was something else. You see, when you kill someone something changes in your soul. The Joker knew exactly what to look for. And there he saw it in Sasha Napier's eyes.
"Tell me Sasha," the Joker says and motions to Ace to refill her glass, "what exactly is it that you do for Maxim?"
Sasha glances up at Ace filling her glass. She motions to Ace and says in her heavy Russian accent, "I do what he do for you."
The Joker slightly cocks his head with a grin, "And what exactly is it that you think he does for me?"
Sasha slightly rolls her eyes, "Get you drink, open doors, protect you, kill people for you. That 'bout sum it up?"
The Joker smirks, "Close enough."
He watches as she slams this drink as well. When their eyes meet again it triggered something in him. Something familiar he couldn't quite put a finger on. But whatever it was, awakened some long forgotten memory.
James Napier slams a shot glass down on the table and stares at his son across from him. His eyes gave away how drunk he was. "Thank God I don't have to deal with two of you," he scowls at Jack, "Wish I didn't even have the one of you to deal with."
Jack's little eyes look up at his father in detachment. By this point in his young life James Napier was more like a nemesis than a fathet. Jack wished he was born to any man on the planet but James Napier.
James's eyes slightly narrow. The look in them let Jack know exactly how much James despised him. How little Jack actually meant to him. "Who knows though, maybe your twin brother we left at the hospital was the good kid. Only reason we chose you is because you were the first born and looked healthier. But the other one was calmer."
"I have a twin brother?" Jack swallows but dares to let his shock show on his face. "What's his name?"
James Napier rolls his eyes, "Named him Jake," he says and refills his shot glass. He slams the shot. "Apparently have another brat on the way too," he sighs and refills his glass.
Jack watches as he tries to keep his contempt for his father from showing on his face. He wished he could have been the kid left at the hospital. James Napier was a horrible father. A horrible man in general. Jack envied his orphan twin. And he prayed the one on the way never had to know the son of a bitch.
"You should have been sterilized," Jack mutters.
James's eyes meet with Jack's again and grow even more cold and desensitized. Cruel. He brings the shot to his mouth and throws it back. James knows his son is right, however he can't allow the child to talk to him like that. He picks his cigarette up out of the ashtray and takes a long drag from it, being sure to get the cherry long and glowing hot.
Without warning he reaches across the table and jerks Jack's arm across it. The next thing Jack knows the cigarette is against his flesh.
By now this is normal to Jack. It doesn't even bother him anymore. So he looks up at his father with bored eyes. "Is that the best you can do...dad??"
"What the fuck did you say to me you little shit?!" And he quickly punches Jack right in the face.
Jack's vacant eyes fill with spite as his tongue sweeps across his busted lip. "You're real good at beating up your wife and child. Tell me, so you ever hit anyone your own size? Or do you just cowardly shoot them??"
The Joker blinks as the memory fades and he finds himself staring into Sasha's eyes. The unmistakable look in them belonged to their father. It was the look of drunkenness. Alcoholism. The Joker didn't have to guess very hard to see where she got it from.
"My, you can certainly throw back the shots," he comments and motions for Ace to refill her glass yet again.
"I like to drink," she carelessly shrugged as she concentrated on Ace pouring her more scotch.
But then the atmosphere of the room changes drastically as Alexis waddles out of the bedroom. Her eyes fall on Sasha and then seek out the Joker as they narrow in anger. The Joker sees and quickly jumps up. "My darling, I hope we didn't wake you."
"Who the fuck is she? And why is she here??" Alexis points at Sasha.
"Honey, that's no way to talk to our guest." The Joker quickly makes his way over to her and wraps his arm around her and turns her around to walk her back to the bedroom. "You really shouldn't be up at this hour. You need your rest my love."
"J, why the hell are you acting so weird?" Alexis looks at him strangely and asks. "What the hell is going on? Why are you drinking with some strange bitch in our living room??"
On the other side of the room Ace clears his throat and nervously smiles at Sasha. Sasha brings the glass to her mouth and takes a drink. She then looks over at the Joker who obviously had his hands tied with what she assumed was his baby mama. She then returns her attention to Ace.
"Tell me, eez he crazy?" She slightly nods toward the Joker as he delicately handled Alexis.
Ace smirks, "You know that's usually always the first question someone asks me about him. But instead of asking me if the Joker's crazy, they should be asking me if I'm crazy because it's me who's working for him," he explains and pours her another glass.
"Vell?" Sasha shrugs, "Are you?"
Ace just smiles bigger, "You literally have the same job as me. You tell me, are we crazy to do it?"
Sasha takes another drink, "Zee money eez good yes. But I find eet eez good for my...eh... unusual skeel set."
Ace nods, "I know exactly what you mean."
Sasha faintly smiles, "You know, vee have actually met before. You come to Ireland weeth zee twin, Jester, to get zee girl child. Maxim bring me weeth group."
Ace faintly smiles back, "I wasn't sure if you remembered me."
"I never forget face," she says. She glances back over at the Joker, "Zee other one seemed more...eh..."
Ace cuts her off, "For every similarity they have a difference. Don't make the mistake of judging them based on the fact that they're identical twins. Just when you think you can understand one, or predict what they might be capable of, they'll make a liar out of you."
"I saw hesitation in zee other ones eyes," Sasha says, "But heem," she glances back to the Joker, "there eez no hesitation in heem."
Back on the other side of the room the Joker gently takes Alexis by the shoulders, "My darling, I realize how this must look to you, but honestly, it's not how it looks."
"J, you better get to explaining before I kill this drunk jezebel in our home," Alexis warns pointing a finger at him.
"When I left, I went to a liquor store. She was inside trying to buy alcohol. The clerk wouldn't sell it to her because she was already drunk. I noticed this tattoo on the back of her neck. It had my father's name on it. So then she pulls a gun. I intervene, knock her out, and bring her here," the Joker innocently shrugs.
"For what? Because of some tattoo?" Alexis's eyes narrow in anger.
"Well yes," he nods, "I think she might be my sister."
"Your sister?? Why the hell do you think that?" She shrugs.
"Because her nose is the same exact nose that Jester and I have. Our father's nose. Then the name on her neck. The detached look in her eyes. The same eyes as my father. I brought her here to covertly get her DNA to be certain," the Joker explained carefully, "So you see my darling, it's not the way it looks," he wraps his arms around her waist, "But I find your jealousy to be quite the turn on," he smiles and presses his lips to hers. "So now, you see everything is fine. I'm not getting some random bitch drunk and seducing her in our living room. Now please return to bed for Jackson," he says sweeping his hand over her pregnant stomach.
"You are so lucky I trust you," Alexis smirks and waddles back to the bedroom.
The Joker softly sighs in relief and returns to Ace and Sasha, "I apologize for that. My beloved Alexis is hormonal because of the baby and all. So, where were we? Oh yes, why don't I take this," he gently reaches for the glass in her hand, "Ace here, can drive you home."
"I know my own way home," Sasha rolls her eyes. Not at him of course, cuz it would insult one of the biggest alleged psychopaths there was.
The Joker smiles, "I'm afraid I must insist. You've had quite a bit to drink. Your reflexes are compromised, whether you realize it or not. Besides, Maxim is a dear friend and loyal ally. It's out of respect to him of course."
Sasha looked carefully at the Joker's eyes and face. He was incredibly hard to read. It was as if his eyes and face were in opposition with one another. But what reason did he have to lie to her? He was a far more complicated and complex man than her boss, Maxim Volkov. Yet, for some reason she found herself trusting the Joker. Now that definitely had to make her crazy...
"Thank you," Sasha nods, "I have eenough eexcitement for one day. He take me home. And I apologize for putting gun in your face."
"Oh think nothing of it my dear, it's not the first time I've had a gun in my face, and I assure you it probably won't be the last," he smiles, "And I do apologize for hitting you, but you truly left me no other choice."
"Eez okay, I vas not thinking clearly. Thank you for not keeling me," she smiles and stands. "Eet vas pleasure to finally meet you," she extends her hand out for him to shake. To which he does without any hesitation.
"It was a pleasure to meet you Sasha Napier," he says cordially. But something about his face just made Sasha think that nothing was at face value with this man. "I hope we meet again."
"Of course," he lets go of her hand, "Ace," he nods.
Ace walks over holding Sasha's coat and holds it out as she slides her arms into the sleeves. He then makes his way to the door and opens it for her to walk through. They walk toward the elevator.
"That veent vell yes? I'm lucky he deedn't keel me, yes?" Sasha asks Ace.
"Guess you are," he smiles at her and pushes the down button for the elevator.
Back in the penthouse the Joker glances down at the glass she had been drinking from in his hand. Somehow he knew what the DNA test was going to confirm. This woman was his and Jester's half sister. But he just needed to see it in black and white.
