Chaeyoung hides her smile from the rim of her cup as she observes her wife rearrange the contents of their daughter's bag for the third time this morning. It's their kid's first day and Jisoo as much as she denies it - is agitated and afraid and scared as every parent would be.
Honestly, Chaeyoung thinks Jisoo should be the calm one given that Chaeyoung is practically an epitome of an energizer bunny with an array of emotions on full blast
"I like the second one best" she tells Jisoo
"Sshh! You're gonna wake her" she sends a glare towards Chaeyoung, "this arrangement is more efficient"
"More efficient?" She laughs, "you need to calm down and she needs to wake up now if she wants to make it on time"
"I am calm" Jisoo exclaims at the same time Cassie walks out of her room rubbing her eyes
"Goodmorning, baby" Chaeyoung places a bowl of cereal and toast on the table
"Goodmorning, mum"
"Excited for your first day?" She asks
"Welp, goodmorning to me" Jisoo says
"Goodmorning, mom" Cassie says with an eye roll, she got that from Jisoo
"Did she roll her eyes on me?" Her wife asks
"She's your daughter, do you even have to ask"
"You're not gonna cry right?" Cassie turns to Jisoo and Chaeyoung snorts, "She's your mom, do you even have to ask"
The similarity of the glare her daughter and wife sends her way is more adorable than terrifying
"Okay, bath time"
...
The preparing time took 3 overtimes because Jisoo and Chaeyoung agreed that there daughter should be the best dressed kid out there
"How about this cute little sun dress - simple yet elegant" Chaeyoung suggests and the way her daughter's eyes light up she knows there would be no more arguing
The ride to the school was...nice and loud being all born singers and beyoncé playing is not a combination for the faint heart
Once the car stopped she can feel Jisoo stopped breathing all together, Cassie jumps off the car even before they can even get out
"Not so fast, young lady" Jisoo grabs the end of the bag so that their daughter couldn't run away
Chaeyoung stands besides her wife who kneels in front of their and initiated a hug
"If someone makes fun of you, what do you do?" Chaeyoung asks
"Punch them in the face?" Cassie guesses and Jisoo laughs which earned her a slap to the back from Chaeyoung
"Not the one Aunt Lisa and Aunt Jennie told you"
"Oh" Cassie looks too cute when she's trying to remember things, pretty much like a younger version of Jisoo, "Make fun of them too?"
"I'm so gonna kill Irene" Chaeyoung murmurs under her breath, "try again"
Cassie groans but tries again, "ask them to stop and apologize?"
"That's the one"
"And if they don't stop?" Their daughter asks her expression turns to worried
"Then you can throw a punch" Chaeyoung says with a comforting smile
"I'm not gonna get in trouble?"
"You're gonna get chocolate Ice Cream" Jisoo promises
The school bell rings and Cassie scurried away and waves cutely at them
"Learn something!" Chaeyoung calls out
And her daughter rolls her eyes. Typical.
She knows Jisoo is trying so hard to hold back her tears - she knows because she's trying so hard to do the same thing
"How about we make another kid?" Jisoo turns to her - eyes shimmering
Chaeyoung just laughs and enters the car, a part of her thinks it went well and but another part feels like her soul drifting off her body - because her baby just went to her first day of school
She and Jisoo stayed home for the day, watched netflix, ate chicken and Ice cream waiting for the time they can pick up their kid from school
And as soon as the clock turns 3 they were bolting out the door and they arrived their on record time
As they were eating dinner Cassie shared what happened in school
"Ella punched someone and Juhyun was sent to the principals office for making someone cry"
Jisoo and Chaeyoung laughed so hard, it's typical for Jennie's kid to punch someone on the first day and Irene's kid to make someone cry.
Chaeyoung feels her emotions catching up on her as she feels her eyes prick and water. She was beyond happy right now, seeing her daughter smiling and her wife laughing at whatever the kid has to say
She have never felt a more overwhelming type of love as she does now. Her heart is full.
Chaeyoung saves this moment to the very back of her brain, a memory she goes back to from time to time.
She knows in this moment - she is home.
