Kajol and Rani were the first to arrive to the hospital to see Shahrukh that day. When they reached his room and got inside, it took Shahrukh nearly two minutes to recognize Kajol after she cut her hair. Kajol noticed that and she kept hiding her smiles, and started thinking that maybe cutting her hair wasn't a bad idea, and it would get his attention to keep looking at her. She decided not to start any conversations with him this time and waited for him to start as she knew how much he loved her long hair.
'Preity and Saif will be here soon, try not to make a scene' Rani said in boredom to Shahrukh
'Why won't he just keep waiting outside?' Shahrukh asked rolling his eyes
'Preity will be sad' Rani said blaming 'she isn't responsible for the thoughts going inside your head'
'As if they weren't true' Shahrukh said and scoffed but Rani looked at him blaming 'whatever' he said rolling his eyes
'let's just focus on your health and getting you out of here' Rani said kindly
'okay' Shahrukh said 'your hair looks good by the way' he said to Rani ignoring Kajol
'Thank you' Rani said smiling happily 'I will go get coffee' she said standing up
'You don't have to do this' Shahrukh said coldly to Rani, Kajol coldly shook her head
'Look, I am really not in the mood for fighting with you' Rani said in boredom
'I'll go get you the coffee, Rani' Kajol said calmly and went out of the room closing the door behind her
'I really don't know what to say to you' Rani said blaming
'Then don't' Shahrukh said shrugging
'Shahrukh, seriously. Are you really leaving the house?' Rani asked sadly 'I know how hurt you are, but didn't you think of me and uncle Arjit?'
'Rani, please I don't want to talk about it' Shahrukh said calmly then sighed 'why did she cut her hair?' he asked feeling annoyed
'yes' Kajol said whispering to herself leaning her ear to the door and smiling in victory
'Why do you care?' Rani asked raising an eyebrow 'I think she looks really nice in that new look' she said smiling coldly
'What are you doing?' Kajol nearly screamed when Saif placed his palm over her shoulder asking, she covered her lips with her palm 'sorry to scare you' he said and chuckled
'Will you let us in?' Preity asked with a short smile
'No, you go. I don't want to get inside' Saif said kindly
'I think it is better, he is out of the mood anyway, even with Rani' Kajol commented
Preity smirked 'not with me' she said, opened the door and got inside
'Nice haircut' Saif said sweetly to Kajol when they were walking away from the room
Kajol half smiled 'thanks' she said then cleared her throat 'we didn't get the chance to talk about what happened that day. I am really sorry Saif, and I am sorry for abandoning you before; I really owned you an explanation' she said feeling embarrassed
'There is no need to say so. I am not angry' Saif said smiling
'Nice to hear that' Kajol said smiling 'I will bring coffee for Rani; do you want to come along?'
'Yeah, sure' he said and nodded 'so, how are things going with him?'
'Terrible. Yet he seemed really surprised by my haircut' she said and chuckled
'I remember that he liked it when it was longer'
'yes'
'So, you did this to annoy him?'
'I really have no idea why I did so, I just did it' she said shrugging
'You really look beautiful'
'Thank you'
'Why were you spying on them anyway?' Saif asked giggling
'That's how I knew how annoyed he was. I am happy I grabbed his attention' Kajol giggled then walked silently
'What happened?' he asked when her smile faded
'My mind just went to that night, away from what I did, the reason that caused all these fights was of how he thought of me and you. I just can't understand why can't he get over that feeling?'
'What do you mean?' he asked calmly
'Him thinking that you still think of me like you did in the past' Kajol said shrugging 'we are friends after all' she said
'We are?' he asked raising an eyebrow
'Stop kidding Saif. And yes, we are. Why would I ask you for help if you weren't my friend and someone I can trust?'
'perfect' he said calmly
'What do you think? Do you think that this is the end between me and him?'
Saif sighed 'I don't know, but we know that Shahrukh isn't that forgivable person. I don't want to give you any false hope. Maybe this is the end; what would you do then?'
Kajol exhaled loudly 'I don't know' she clicked her tongue 'speaking about that night, I know you were defending me but what you said to Shahrukh was really painful'
'Oh really? And how he thought about you wasn't painful? Gosh, this man doesn't deserve you'
'Maybe some of the things you said were right, but Shahrukh is not a monster' she said helplessly
Saif sighed 'love is blind' he said and kept looking at her
'How is Preity? I don't think she is okay these days' she asked changing the topic
'She is touched by what happened to Shahrukh, you know how close they are'
'Yeah, I know'
'But seriously, if this was really the end, would you give a chance to anyone else to come into your life?'
'I don't think so' Kajol said nodding in denial
'I can't believe you will waste your life living on the memories of your relationship Kajol, that's insane'
'Even if everything ended and we aren't together anymore, Shahrukh isn't someone to easily get over' she said and shrugged 'I am sure it will take a long time'
'I think I need coffee too, a very strong one' Saif said and sighed
'What do you mean you aren't coming with me tomorrow?' Kajol asked feeling annoyed when she was in the car with Rani on their way home
'Shivan and Meera need me too, and it will be a good chance for you to be together. Preity might come by as well' Rani shrugged
'What if she didn't come? she needs rest as well and I am sure these days are stressful for her more than any of us. I don't want to be alone there; he is still very angry at me'
'that's why, maybe you will talk and make things go better' Rani said
'Or talk and make things go worse' Kajol said in boredom
'What would go worse than what you have reached?' Rani rolled her eyes 'he isn't even looking at you in the face'
'Thanks, Rani' Kajol said coldly wrapping her arms in front of her chest
'that's not what I meant' Rani said calmly 'we can't leave him alone anyway'
Kajol sighed 'god, help me' she said
Kajol got inside the room quietly, she was happy that he was still asleep. She knew that she would pass a lot of time there, so she brought her laptop with her and kept writing. She didn't know how long she stayed like this. When she finally raised her sight off her laptop, she found that he woke up, she didn't even sense it.
'Rani couldn't come, she is staying home for Meera and Shivan. Dad is busy at office and he is taking care of everything' she said then checked the time in her laptop and continued 'I don't know if Preity is coming today or not. But the time says maybe not. So unfortunately, you are stuck with me' Kajol said coldly fixing her sight to the laptop. They stayed like this for a while until she heard him groaning.
'What's wrong?' Kajol put her laptop on the table, stood up and walked quickly towards him, she saw him trying to adjust the pillows behind him. She gave a half smile and helped him adjust the pillows 'better?' she asked and he nodded
'Thank you' he finally said
Kajol placed her palm over his cheek 'you need a good shave' she said kindly caressing his cheek. He moved his face away from her hand, Kajol sat at the edge of the bed near him and turned his face towards her again 'I know what I did wasn't easy and I am really sorry for that. I know I hurt you but I swear I didn't mean to. A lot of days have passed Shahrukh, for how long will you keep punishing me? A month? A year? For how long will keep torturing me? This is so hard for me' she asked sadly forgetting all about her previous conversation with him 'Shahrukh, I love you' she said and came closer to kiss him but he put his hand over her shoulder stopping her
'Go home, Kajol' he said calmly 'I want to be alone'
Tears started forming in her eyes, she stood up furiously and started collecting her things. She got everything and stormed out of his room slamming the door behind her. Once she was out of the room, she burst out crying.
'Rani please, I have no power to discuss anything' Shahrukh said resting his head back
'No Shahrukh, you have been avoiding any serious conversations for a while, even with Preity. That time has passed'
'Leave me alone, mother Rani' he said and blew
'I am sorry, but we need to talk. This is your second week here in the hospital and the doctors said you can go home and use the crutches. What are you planning to do?'
'I don't know, but surely I am not going back to that so called home'
'What about me? Shahrukh. What about uncle Arjit and Kajol? Are you going to abandon us?'
'Rani don't be hard on me. I can't go back for many clear reasons'
'Okay, forget about me and uncle Arjit and the whole idea of going back home. Would you really leave Kajol?' Rani asked blaming 'Shahrukh, that's enough. I rarely see her go out of her room and she is crying all the time. She doesn't deserve that, you can't do this to her, she is hurt enough'
'Wasn't I hurt too? And it is not only from her, but from everyone'
Rani rolled her eyes 'Kajol isn't selfish. She did what she did out of... oh my god, I can't believe that I am saying that when you are the one who knows her well, or maybe I am just mistaken and you don't know her at all'
'Can I please ask you a question? The question that you are afraid to ask'
Rani rose her eyebrow 'and what is it?' she asked
'Do you really think that Saif has changed for real?'
Rani scoffed 'so that's what it is, it is not Kajol's selfishness or her hiding secret that bothered you then' she said sarcastically and continued 'your anger is just out of jealousy. I want you to know that Kajol loves you and would never cheat on you'
'that's not the answer I want to hear' he asked coldly
Rani bit her lower lip and sighed 'I believe that, and if it is not true, I would force myself to believe that for Preity's sake' she said then asked 'happy?'
'reassured' he said calmly
'I really don't know how your mind works' Rani said and blew in boredom
'Me neither' he said sarcastically 'but really, do you think that Preity is thinking that I am just angry at him for helping Kajol do what she did, or she really knows the real reason?'
'I don't know and I don't want to know or discuss that with her'
Shahrukh rolled his eyes 'And I am the one in denial?' he said and scoffed 'please'
'Promise me that you will call Kajol' Rani said firmly 'I don't know what are you waiting for'
'I won't promise you anything' he said calmly
'Stop acting, I know that you are dying without her' she said feeling annoyed 'she apologized a lot and tried to fix everything. She doesn't deserve that. Don't you love her? Don't you know how much she loves you? Do you really want to end this? I can't believe that'
'Fine, I will think about it' he said smiling wickedly and she sighed slapping her forehead
Kajol finally managed to get out of her room, she sat on the swing in the garden crying silently. A week has passed since she was at the hospital and Shahrukh's cold attitude. She knew from Rani that the doctors said that he is finally good to go. She felt really disappointed that their relationship is ending this way after all they had gone through. She thought about the fact that she lost and still losing everything, her best friend, her boyfriend and her family. Her whole world was falling apart. She looked at the ring placed to her finger sadly, she was about to take it off but then retreated. She decided to hand it to Shahrukh herself when she goes with Rani to visit him next time. She would stick to her word this time.
'Why do you insist on bringing coffee from that cafeteria every time we come here?' Kajol asked in boredom 'there is no need to leave us alone anymore. It is over' she said coldly 'and that coffee isn't really that good' she added
'don't say that, nothing is over' Rani said when they were walking in one of the hospital's corridors 'I have a strong headache today and I really need that coffee, even if it is not that good'
'Fine, see you later' Kajol said helplessly and walked alone towards Shahrukh's room, when she arrived, she saw Saif standing near the door
'You are still not allowed in?' Kajol asked sarcastically
'Someone is in a good mood' Saif scoffed 'I haven't seen you for a while and you aren't returning back my calls. Very well then' he said coldly 'my friend' he said sarcastically
Kajol sat sadly over one of the chairs in the corridor 'I am sorry Kajol' Saif said kindly
'No problem' she said looking at the ring she was holding in between her fingertips
Saif sat next to her 'I need to tell you something, but please try to understand' he said when he saw her holding the ring
'Go ahead' she said still fixing her eyes on the ring
'We both know that things won't work with Shahrukh, right? And sooner or later you guys will break up '
Kajol bit her lower lip and tears started forming in her eyes, she nodded sadly 'yeah' she said
'Kajol you should go on with your life, you are a great girl, you are beautiful and unique. You really don't know your worth' he said kindly 'you need to be with someone who knows your worth and how precious you are' he said and held her hand reassuringly and then with the tip of his index finger her wiped a tear that rolled down her cheek
Kajol put his hand away gently 'thanks Saif, that's sweet of you' she said feeling uncomfortable
'Why are you resisting it?' Saif asked sadly
'Resisting what?' Kajol asked furrowing her eyebrows
'Kajol, you know exactly what I am talking about'
'I am afraid I don't' Kajol said and stood up calmly
'You know it was you all the time, and you know how I have been tortured for months seeing you with him, when you should have been with me instead' Saif said and pushed her against the wall 'I love you, Kajol' he said and was about to kiss her
'Saif, what are you doing?' Kajol asked angrily and pushing him away
'Saif!' Rani said, she came quickly and spilled her coffee to his face angrily, then she froze when she saw Preity who was standing near the room's door looking at them 'Preity' she whispered, Kajol and Saif turned their faces towards the door and looked at her silently
Tears started rolling down Preity's cheeks, she walked away as fast as she could, Rani ran after her and Saif looked at Kajol in disappointment then followed them silently. Kajol covered her lips with her palm in a shock, knowing that Shahrukh was right from the very beginning and how dumb she was all that time. She found herself sitting on the floor, she sat like that trembling for few seconds. She felt miserable.
'Come in' Shahrukh said when he heard a knock on the door, the door was opened and Kajol appeared. She walked in and stood at the end of his bed, looking miserable.
'I came to say sorry, for the last time and I promise I won't annoy you again. For real' she said, took a deep breath and continued 'you were right Shahrukh, about everything, and I admit that I was stupid enough to not to see how things really are. Trust me I won't blame you if you broke up with me and never showed me your face again. I deserve that'
'Come and sit please, we need to talk' he said calmly
'There is nothing left to say' she said coldly
'Please Kajol' he said and patted over the edge of the bed
Kajol walked towards the bed and sat down where he patted and held the ring 'and for the ring, I think I won't need it anymore...' she was interrupted by a kiss on her lips
She broke the kiss pulling back 'I don't understand' she frowned and looked at him feeling confused, he took the ring from her and placed it to her other hand where it is placed when one is married 'I don't think I really understand what is going on right now' she said feeling lost 'is that a joke?' she asked
'There is no reason to get angry at you anymore' he said calmly
'Why? Did you lose your memory or something?' she asked feeling confused
'No, I didn't lose my memory' he chuckled and said 'I am not so lucky like you'
Kajol rolled her eyes in boredom 'I swear I have no energy for your sarcasm or games' she said 'If you have something to say, please say it clearly' she said starting to lose her patience
'Kajol, I forgive you' he said smiling
'Oh wow, really? She asked raising an eyebrow
'yes' he nodded
Kajol scoffed 'what is the reason of this generosity?' she asked wrapping her arms before her chest
Shahrukh sighed 'I got news about her. She is okay' he said calmly
'What? What do you mean?'
'She is okay, Amira is okay' he said with a short smile
Kajol gasped and placed her palms over her lips 'oh my god, you must be joking. How did you know? Jaya told you?' she kept asking in excitement
'You won't believe it' he giggled
One day before
Shahrukh was lying on his bed; it was an hour after Rani left. He was closing his eyes and trying to get back to sleep, when he heard footsteps coming to his way. He opened his eyes slowly and surprisingly chuckled.
'Oh no, please tell me that you aren't hiding a knife at the back of your Sari' he said still laughing and sat up
Poja pulled a chair and sat near the bed 'no, I am not here to kill you. I am here to check on you' she said calmly
Shahrukh sighed 'I really do look like him, am I right?' he asked
Poja nodded sadly 'yes, a lot. And that why you had to face all that since the very beginning. Even it is not your fault'
'I am glad to hear that you really admit that you ruined my life' he sighed 'What do you want from me now?' he asked and sighed again 'what will I have to face more? Don't you get tired?'
'I know that you will be surprised, but I really need your help'
He laughed out loud 'that's funny' he said and continued coldly 'Why do you think I will help you after you tried to kill me?' he asked and frowned
'I didn't. I won't lie that this came in my favor as I was sure that Kajol would fix things with you and you will forgive her sooner or later, so this was the only thing that would separate you and Kajol for good. Yet I wasn't the one who gave the orders'
Shahrukh smirked 'I can guess now' he said coldly 'but I still can't believe that you didn't have a hand in this. Come on' he said sarcastically
Poja sighed 'I will be honest with you. I knew that this would happen anyway but I didn't know when'
'Why did Amitabh take that long time to get revenge of me?'
'When will you learn to respect the elders?' Poja said and rolled her eyes 'I know you call me just Poja all the time when you speak about me' she scoffed
'Oh really?' Shahrukh scoffed 'that's what really matters now?'
'Anyway. Let me answer your questions, first thing is that you want to be the dominant of everything in the company lately and Amitabh didn't like that; as he thought he would get Abhishik back and force him to take care of his part; yet this didn't happen. He couldn't find them'
'And second?'
Poja exhaled 'he did so to bring your sister back to check on you and then get to know where Abhishik is, and to take revenge of her; I think' she explained
'Are you a bunch of gangsters or something?' he asked in disgust
'don't panic, she is fine, both are fine' she said calming him down
'How do you know? Why would I trust you?'
'Amitabh is very sick recently, very sick. I think that sooner or later Abhishik will come and visit him; maybe they are his last days'
'Sorry to hear that' he said coldly
'Who knows, maybe your sister will come in through this door any minute. I am sure she is around' Poja said smilingly
'How do I make sure that she is safe?' he asked feeling worried
'There are no more games Shahrukh, trust me. For real' Poja said holding his hand
'What if he already gave his orders to hurt them, even if he is dying?'
'Amitabh has changed, he is hopeless, he only needs to see his son for the last time. You can check yourself if you want. Believe me Shahrukh, nothing will ever harm you or anyone you love. I am on your side now, trust me' she said confidently
'What is it that you need me to help you with?' Shahrukh asked feeling confused
'Arjit wants to end our marriage. I am sure you heard about that, please tell him not to do so' Poja begged
'Why did you start caring suddenly?' he asked raising an eyebrow
'I won't deny that I really loved your father, Shahrukh. But what is between me and Arjit is more than this, we have Kajol, the house, our memories and all the things we passed through together. Your uncle is the kindest and the best person I have ever met; I can't lose him'
He blew 'I don't think I can, and after everything you did; I don't think he will listen' he said 'why do you think I would help you? And why do you think that he will listen to me?'
'Shahrukh, I brought you good news about your sister. Give me some hand'
'Fine, I will try my best' Shahrukh said helplessly
'Thank you, very much' she said smiling kindly 'I really appreciate that'
Shahrukh ran his fingers through his hair 'I can't believe that I am doing this' he said shaking his head
Poja surprisingly giggled 'I am sorry, I always put you in troubles' she said kindly then spoke again 'Isn't it the time to forgive Kajol?'
'Fix things with uncle. Forgive Kajol, who do you think I am? Your Genie?' Shahrukh asked sarcastically
'There is no reason to be angry at her or at your sister. Life is short Shahrukh, don't waste it getting angry from the ones who truly loves you. It was me all the time who put you in troubles and made your life hell, and now you are simply helping me out. Don't you think it would be silly if you remained angry at them?'
'Please slap me, I am sure I am dreaming' he said sarcastically
'What happened lately between me and Arjit opened my eyes, I really love him' she said smiling sadly
'I am still surprised' he said raising his eyebrows
'It is so clear Shahrukh; you are winning and I am losing. And I have to admit, your bond with the ones you love is way stronger than my evil plans' she smilingly and shrugged
'I am happy to hear that, I will do everything I can to fix your relationship with uncle' he said reassuring
Poja smiled kindly 'I am so sorry I treated you and your sister in a bad way, and yes you really look like your father and that really drove me crazy. I am sorry that I kept punishing you for something you had no control of. I was getting revenge from the wrong person. And I am sorry that Amitabh is doing the same, when you and Amira have nothing to do with it'
'And I am sorry too that I have said harsh things back then. No one has control over his heart' Shahrukh said kindly
'Thank you, that's sweet of you' Poja said and caressed Shahrukh's cheek 'don't take a long time to fix things with Kajol, my daughter is beautiful and hundreds of boys will do anything to be with her. So, work faster or I won't blame her if she became with someone else' she said joking and he smiled
'Oh my god' Kajol placed her palms over her head, when Shahrukh told her what happened, only hiding the part of her mother's past 'that's too much information for me to handle' she said, stood up and started pacing the room
'Okay, you are getting me dizzy. Stop pacing' he said in boredom
'I can't believe that you trusted her, and you want to help her!' she shouted
'Calm down'
'No, I won't' she took a deep breath 'okay, let's put everything aside. I am glad that Amira is safe and sound, that she might be around and you are suddenly forgiving all of us now'
'good'
'Shut up, how dare you ignore me for two weeks? You could have died and you just didn't care that the last thing between us was a fight'
'We are in a hospital; they will come and throw you out' he said angrily
Kajol exhaled 'okay, I am very calm'
'great'
'Shut up' she said then continued 'I am the one who is angry now. I can't believe that you thought that there was something between me and Saif. I can't believe that you thought that I only thought about myself'
'I am sorry I did so' he said kindly
Kajol was shocked by his calm response 'that wasn't expected' she said and scratched her head as she was ready for more shouting
'Come and sit please'
'no' Kajol said and wrapped her arms before her chest
'I am sorry I didn't talk to you for two weeks; I am sorry that I thought you were selfish and spoiled and I am sorry I only thought about myself. Please don't be angry'
'oh' Kajol said raising an eyebrow 'how do you do that?' she asked and sat opposite to him at the edge of the bed then she punched his wounded arm and he groaned in pain 'that's for ignoring me for two weeks' she said furiously
'I accept it' he said closing his eyes in pain
'Oh my god did it really hurt?' she asked feeling worried
'I can't believe I managed not talking to you for that long time' he said opening his eyes slowly
'Because you are idiot' she said shrugging then she gave a half smile 'so you really think she is okay? And that she is around?'
He nodded 'I think so'
'I don't know, I don't think that you really believe that. You didn't just forgive me for knowing that she is okay'
Shahrukh sighed 'for the whole two weeks I was in a shock, from everyone and everything. I thought of the idea that I would really die; yet anger was blocking me from thinking clearly'
'I see'
'I am really sorry Kajol. I am so stupid'
Kajol sighed 'yes you are' she said and started laughing
'I really missed you, and I really hate this haircut' he said feeling annoyed
Kajol giggled 'you are not the only one punishing here' she said then slowly stopped giggling 'I am sorry too Shahrukh, I wouldn't forgive myself if something happened to Amira. I still can't really trust mom' she sighed and spoke again 'I should have told you from the very beginning; no matter what. I can't blame you for being angry'
'I understand' he said placing her hair behind her ear
Kajol hugged him 'I can't believe that I could have lost you' she said sadly hugging him
'let's just forget all what happened, okay?'
Kajol smiled hopefully and pulled back 'we will keep looking for her, but this time we will do it together, okay?'
Shahrukh held her hand 'okay' he said smiling 'where is everyone anyway?' he asked
Kajol suddenly remembered what happened earlier between her and Saif and blew in anger and rolled her eyes 'here we go again, another fight'
'What do you mean? What happened?' he frowned
Kajol cleared her throat 'do you remember when I got inside saying you were right about everything?'
'Um, yes' he said feeling confused
'I meant including what you think about Saif' she said feeling embarrassed
Shahrukh narrowed his eyes 'what do you mean exactly?' he asked feeling suspicious
'Jai mata di' Kajol said under her breath asking for strength from the gods 'he just proved me wrong few minutes ago, I thought that he changed but he didn't'
'I think that I am losing my patience' he said coldly 'what did he do?'
'Saif said that he has loved me all the time and nothing has changed and he is still thinking about me, unfortunately both Preity and Rani witnessed that. Ok bye' she said quickly, stood up and ran out the room
'What? Kajol!' Shahrukh called loudly. He got off his bed, got the crutches and followed her outside 'Kajol' he called again
Kajol looked back at him 'oh wow, you can walk' she said casually
'Come back. Right ...now' Shahrukh said through his teeth and Kajol slowly walked back towards the room. Shahrukh slowly placed the crutches next to his bed and lied down
'Okay, start shouting now and tell me how right you were from the beginning and how dumb all of us were including Preity'
'Surprisingly, I won't shout' he said calmly and shook his head 'All I can think about now is Preity. She wasn't dumb, she has always felt that he is thinking about someone else and we all kept suppressing her, she must be feeling miserable'
'Shall we call them?' Kajol asked sadly
Shahrukh clicked his tongue 'I don't know' he blew helplessly
'Shahrukh'
'Yeah?'
'I am happy that we are one team again' she said smiling and he smiled back, suddenly Kajol's phone started ringing 'oh my god, it is Rani' she said looking at Shahrukh
'Pick up' Shahrukh said quickly
'Hi Rani, how is everything?' Kajol asked kindly 'Rani, calm down; I can't hear you clearly. Why are you crying?' she asked feeling worried
'What is wrong?' Shahrukh asked feeling worried too
Kajol gestured to him to wait 'you are here? in the same hospital?' she asked then she placed her palm over her lips 'oh my god, damn' she said sadly 'I am coming right away' she said and hung up
'What happened?'
Kajol exhaled loudly 'you would need to come with me'
'I won't go anywhere before you tell me what is wrong'
'The three of them had a car accident'
'Oh my god' he said in a shock
'They are fine, but...'
'But what?' he asked angrily
'Itis Preity' Kajol said sadly 'she lost her baby'
