"Don't show me your cards," Katherine playfully told her granddaughter as she sat beside the teenager as they attempted to play a game of cards.

It had almost been a whole week since Maddie woke up in the hospital, she still had a concussion so her memory still wasn't great and she still felt in pain but all the thirteen-year-old wanted to do was leave the hospital. It was evident in her voice that the teenager was unhappy, all the visitors that had come and gone had noticed the change in her mood and no matter what any of them did, she still wasn't happy.

In the short time of the week, Maddie had gotten to know most of the doctors, it was mostly Amelia and Bailey that visited her, with the occasional visit from Hayes as well. It was well-known to the nurses at least that Maddie hated being in the hospital, even going as far as to throw the Jello at one of the nurses. When the two moms heard they weren't too pleased and felt awful that Maddie was still stuck in the hospital.

"I don't get this game," Maddie said as she let out a huff and threw her cards down on the makeshift table in front of her. "It's so stupid. I don't want to play it." She muttered as she crossed her arms in frustration.

Katherine let out a sigh and gave her granddaughter a soft smile, she understood the wanting to get out of here and if anything. "Okay then, well how about we read a book? I could read it to you if you would like that, like when you were younger?" she offered. Maya and Carina were both outside getting coffee, they thought it would be a good idea for Katherine to try and cheer the teenager up, they hated seeing her in such pain.

"I don't want to read. I don't want to play a stupid card game. I just want to get out of this hospital!" Maddie suddenly snapped and she realized what she had done. "No offence Grandma, but I just want to sleep..." she mumbled as she sunk down in the bed and turned her face away from the older women.

"Okay sweetheart, I'll leave you be," Katherine said, agreeing before she stood up and walked out of the hospital room.

"Any luck?" Maya questioned as she spotted her mom coming out of Maddie's hospital room on the PEDS floor after the doctors decided there wasn't any need for the ICU anymore.

"Not much I'm afraid. I tried to play a game of cards with her and read, but I think that being in hospital is really getting to her now," Katherine said as she looked through the window to see the girl curled up in the bed.

"Hopefully it's not too long now at least," Carina said as she took in the sight of her daughter who lay in the hospital bed.

Maya let out a sigh and chewed on her bottom lip anxiously. "I wish that there some way that we could cheer her up," she said.

"Maybe you can give your brother a call? I mean, he is bound to cheer her up?" Katherine suggested.

"Yeah, that's not a bad shout actually. I'll drop him a text now," Maya said as she picked up her phone to text her brother.

"Thank you for sitting with her Katherine," Carina said as she smiled at her mother-in-law.

"No problem," Katherine said as she smiled in return. "I just hope that she isn't to upset..." she said as she looked back at her granddaughter.

"Looks like she's gone back to sleep," Carina observed from outside the room.

"Yeah, she yelled at me and then told me she wanted to sleep so I left to her too it." Katherine told them both.

Maya furrowed her eyebrow in shock. "Maddie yelled at you?" she questioned.

Katherine nodded slightly. "Yes, but I understand that she was frustrated so it's okay," she said.

"Okay. I'll speak to her about it," Maya said let out a sigh and shook her head. "Thanks for trying anyways mom," she said sincerely.

"Anytime sweetheart. I'm going to call your aunt, I told her I would let her know what is happening," Katherine told the two women before she headed outside of the hospital.

"I can't believe she yelled at my mom," Maya said as she shook her head in disbelief, she knew it was getting to her daughter but they weren't expecting her to lash out.

"Hey kiddo," Maya said as she noticed her daughters' eyes flutter open, and she was now awake again.

"Hi mom," Maddie mumbled as she let a yawn escape her mouth and she slowly moved to sit up in bed.

Maya slipped her phone into her pocket before she smiled at her teenage daughter, "Good sleep?" she questioned.

"Could have been better if I was in my own bed," Maddie told her the truth as she shrugged her shoulders.

Maya smiled softly and moved to hold her daughters' hand in her own. "It won't be too long hopefully before you can," she told her.

Maddie noticed it was just the two of them in the room and frowned. "Where's mama?" she questioned.

"Mama's just gone to talk to Amelia and hopefully find out if you're any closer to leaving the hospital yet," Maya explained briefly.

Maddie nodded slightly and crossed her arms while she looked at her mom. "I don't like it here. The food sucks," she mumbled.

"I know it does," Maya chuckled in agreement. "How about when you're back home, we can order pizza?" she offered the teenager hoping for a reaction.

"With pineapple?" Maddie questioned curiously.

Maya couldn't help but laugh and nod her head. "Well, I don't know what your mama will make of that but sure kid, whatever you want." She told her.

Maya's mission was accomplished when Maddie gave her a slight smile. "Okay," she said quietly.

"So, we need to talk about you yelling at your grandma," Maya mentioned and paused to look at her daughter who looked guilty. "Mads, what was all of that about?" she asked concerned.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to shout at her," Maddie was quick to apologise.

Maya nodded slightly but kept a stern expression on her face. "I know that you didn't, but it still doesn't excuse the fact that you did," she told her and then softened her look. "You know your grandma was only trying to help you. I know you hate being here in the hospital, but it won't be forever," she said.

"I'm sorry," Maddie repeated sorrowfully.

"You don't need to apologise to me Mads, but you do need to apologise to your grandma when she comes in, alright?" Maya questioned as she was interrupted by her phone going off in her pocket and she pulled it out. "Oh look, it's uncle Mase!" she told the teenager as she slid her hand over the button to answer her phone. "Hey Mase, what's up?" she questioned.

"Maya, I'm freaking out!" Mason exclaimed through the phone as Maya could hear the faint sound of screams in the background.

"Okay, calm down. What's going on?" Maya asked concerned.

"Chloe's waters have broken," Mason told his older sister through the other side of the phone.

Maya gasped slightly, which caught Maddie's attention. "What's the matter?" The younger girl asked.

"Have her contractions started yet?" Maya asked as she shook her head in Maddie's direction, mouthing that she would tell her afterwards.

"I mean I am pretty sure, considering she's currently screaming in pain right now," Mason told his sister sarcastically from the other side of the phone and then she heard him sigh. "Sorry, I'm really freaking out right now sis," He added.

"It's alright Mase," Maya told her brother, understanding the situation and knowing he was bound to feel overwhelmed.

"Maya, I really don't know what to do." Mason admitted.

"Okay, okay, calm down Mase. You guys need to head to the hospital and I'll get in touch with Carina to let her know you're both coming in," Maya told her brother in hopes that it would calm his nerves. "Mom's already here at the hospital so I'll let her know what's going on as well," she added.

"Okay, thanks sis." Mason breathed out a sigh of relief. "We'll make our way to the hospital. See you soon!" He exclaimed.

"See you soon, Mase!" Maya said as she ended the call and turned her attention to her daughter. "Chloe's gone into labour and they're coming to the hospital." She explained.

"Seriously?" Maddie asked excitedly.

Maya couldn't help but laugh and raise her eyebrow. "Wow. If I knew that was going to cheer you up then I'd have asked your uncle to try and speed up the process quicker," she said as Maddie couldn't help but smile.

"I'm going to have a cousin!" Maddie exclaimed.

"Indeed, you are Mads," Maya couldn't help but smile herself in agreement. "Listen, I need to go and find your mama and grandma to let her know, can I trust you to stay put and try to not get out of bed?" she questioned, knowing that Maddie had tried several times to get out of bed, despite how weak she had felt and had almost collapsed if she hadn't been caught by either of her moms' who came back in.

Maddie rolled her eyes slightly. "Come on mom seriously," she groaned.

"I'm serious Mads. Stay in bed," Maya told her firmly as she stood up from the chair.

"Yeah, alright, fine," Maddie mumbled as she reached to grab her iPad to try and find a movie to watch to keep her entertained.

"Carina!" Maya exclaimed as she found her wife in the halls of the hospital.

"Bella, is everything okay?" Carina asked concerned as she saw the look of panic in her wife's eyes.

"Yeah, well sort off," Maya said as she paused to look at her wife who looked worriedly. "Chloe's waters have broken," she told her.

"Oh wow," Carina said in surprise.

"Exactly what I said. Mason's totally freaking out about it but they're on their way to the hospital now," Maya told her wife. "I told them I would let you know so you can, you know do what you do best." She added.

Carina nodded her head slightly. "Si. I'll go quickly check in on Maddie and then come back when they arrive," she told her blonde wife who nodded in agreement.

"Did you talk to Amelia? Maddie's starting to go stir-crazy in that bed," Maya told her wife.

"I know," Carina said as she laughed slightly. "I spoke with Amelia and she is going to speak to Hayes about it, so they will come and talk to us, however, it will just be you now since I'll be upstairs with your brother and Chloe," she explained to her wife.

Maya nodded and smiled. "Okay that's understandable but I think that Maddie will be happy with that, you know?" she asked and then she realized she still had to speak to her mom. "Oh, I need to go and let my mom knows happening. Have you seen her anywhere?" she asked.

"Not recently, no. I imagine that she's probably getting a coffee or something though Bella," Carina said as she motioned towards outside where the coffee cart is.

"Ah, yeah. I'll go and find her," Maya said as she moved forward to kiss her wife on the lips. "You going back to sit with Maddie? I told her to not get out of bed but you know what she is like," she said as she laughed.

Carina nodded in agreement. "Si, quickly before I don't have a chance," she told her wife.

"Okay, that sounds good. I'll see you in a bit," Maya said as she quickly rushed off outside to try and find her mom.

Carina walked into Maddie's hospital room to find the teenager watching a movie on her iPad and thankfully not out of bed like she thought she might try again. "Hey Bambina," she said as she moved to sit on the chair beside the teenager.

"Hi mama," Maddie said as she gave the older woman a small smile.

"What are you watching?" Carina asked curiously as she couldn't tell what was on the teenagers' iPad screen.

"Avengers," Maddie told her mama who looked blank and didn't have any idea what that was. "It's a Marvel film, superheroes and stuff. It's cool," she told her.

"Ah okay, I see," Carina said as she nodded in understanding while Maddie giggled. "I just wanted to come and see you before your uncle and Chloe arrive... Are you excited to have a new cousin, Bambina?" she questioned.

"I can't wait to meet him!" Maddie exclaimed excitedly.

Carina smiled at the teenage girl. "I know and I'm sure that it won't be long before you can," she paused as she stood up from the chair, she leaned over to press a kiss to the top of her daughters' head. "Alright, enjoy your superhero movie Bambina. I will see you in a little bit okay," she said.

"Bye Mama," Maddie said as she turned her attention back to the movie as Carina walked out of the room.

"Mom," Maya said as she rushed over to her mom who was standing at the coffee cart as she accepted her coffee.

Katherine turned around to see her daughter running towards her. "Hey sweetheart," she said.

"Okay, so Mason and Chloe are on their way to the hospital. You're going to be a grandma again," Maya told the older woman as her facial expression changed.

"Oh my, wow that's fantastic!" Katherine exclaimed in excitement at the newest addition to the family.

"I know. I told Mason that I would let you know so you should go and meet them, he's really freaking out about it all so hopefully you can keep him calm," Maya said as she couldn't help but laugh. "I need to go head back to Maddie, we will come up later if she's in a better mood." She added.

"Of course, yes," Katherine agreed as the two women headed back into the hospital.

"Oh, I also told her that she needs to apologise to you for yelling as well, she shouldn't have done that," Maya told her mom.

"I understand why she did it. Maddie's never been a fan of hospitals," Katherine said as she laughed.

"Oh yeah don't I know it," Maya said in agreement as she laughed.

"Are uncle Mason and Chloe here?" Maddie questioned as she looked up from the iPad when Maya walked back into her hospital room.

Maya nodded slightly and sat down on the bed beside her daughter, "Yeah, they've gone upstairs with your mama and grandma so now it's just the two of us," she said and gave her daughter a slight smile. "Oh Avengers, good choice!" she exclaimed when she saw the film that Maddie was watching.

"I tried to explain it to mama, but she didn't seem to really understand it," Maddie said while she giggled.

Maya couldn't help but laugh and nod in agreement. "Your mama usually prefers romantic comedies and not action films with superheroes," she said as they continued to watch the film.

"Oh yeah, that's true!" Maddie exclaimed as she snuggled herself into her moms' chest further while Maya ran her hand through her daughter's hair. The two of them stayed like that for the next few hours until Hayes walked into the hospital room.

"Hey, sorry I'm not interrupting am I?" Hayes questioned.

"No of course not, come in. We were just watching The Avengers," Maya explained briefly while Maddie paused the film.

"Oh, which one?" Hayes asked which caught Maddie by total surprise. "I have two teenage boys, I know all about the Marvel films." He grinned.

"Infinity War," Maddie said as she smiled.

"One of the best," Hayes told the teenager while he smiled. "Alright, we just need to wait a minute for Amelia, she won't be too long." He added.

"I'm here," Amelia said as she waltzed into the hospital room. "Hi, Maddie. Hi Maya," she said as she turned her attention to the blonde. "No Carina?" she questioned.

"No, my brother and his girlfriend are having a baby so she's upstairs with them," Maya explained briefly.

"Oh okay I see," Amelia said as she nodded in agreement. "Why the long face kid?" she questioned when she saw the small frown on the teenager's face.

"I hate this place," Maddie complained which caused all three of the adults to laugh.

"Yeah we've heard about that from most of the nurses," Amelia said as she smirked slightly. "Apparently, you're quite difficult as a patient," she teased.

"Well lucky for you, we've got some good news for you Maddie," Hayes told the teenager.

"You have?" Maddie questioned curiously. "Please tell me that I can go home soon!" she added as she tried to not get her hopes up.

"Yeah, well, that's exactly what we were coming to tell you," Hayes said and couldn't help but smile. "You can go home," He told her.

"Really??" Maddie exclaimed happily.

"Yes," Amelia said as she laughed. "Alright so do you still have a slight concussion, but since your mama's a doctor I am happy to discharge you. I know you're in safe hands at home with both of your moms," she told the blonde teenager who looked delighted to be able to get out of the hospital.

"I can go home?" Maddie questioned in case she heard incorrectly.

"Yes, you can go home Maddie," Hayes said as he chuckled.

"Yes, finally!" Maddie exclaimed.

"That's great news," Maya said as she looked at her daughter and smiled.

Amelia nodded in agreement. "Yeah it is, so firefighter barbie, you can go fill out the discharge papers if you would like? I'll keep Maddie company," she offered.

"Yeah, come on mom. I want to get out of this room so I can go and see my new little cousin upstairs!" Maddie exclaimed.

Maya chuckled and got up off the bed to stand up. "Alright kiddo. I'll go and sort out the paperwork now," she said as she walked out of the room to head to the desk and fill out the appropriate paperwork. Hayes left afterwards since he had been paged to another patient.

While Maya went to fill out the paperwork, Maddie decided to take a quick shower and wash her hair, it was slightly difficult as she felt herself getting breathless, but she pushed through it and completed the task. Quickly, she got dressed and walked out of the small bathroom as she towel-dried her hair while she sat back on the bed while she gave Amelia a smile who had sat remained on the chair while she had showered.

"You know, I think this is the first time that I have seen a genuine smile of you in a week," Amelia said as she couldn't help but tease the teenager.

"I told you that I don't like hospitals," Maddie told the neurosurgeon with a slight smirk on her face.

"Oh, I know, and the majority of the nurses know that too," Amelia said as she let out a laugh and shake her head. "We can't forget that you did throw your Jello at one of them the other day," she said as she teased the girl playfully before she looked at her seriously. "Okay, listen, kid, I don't want to see you back here again unless it's just to hang out with your mama, I mean if you want you can also come and hang out with me as well if you wanted?" she asked with a smirk. "But no injuries, got it?" she questioned.

"I've got it, Doc," Maddie responded as she grinned.

Amelia laughed and shook her head in amusement. "You're funny kid," she said.

It wasn't long until Maya walked back into the room to find the two of them having a conversation. "Alright, paperwork has been filled out and I have just had a text from your mama, ready to go and meet your little cousin?" she asked knowing the teenager would jump at the chance.

"Definitely!" Maddie exclaimed.

"Thank you, Amelia, for all your help with Maddie," Maya said as she turned her attention to the doctor. "I know she wasn't exactly the easiest patient to deal with but Carina and I really appreciate it," she said.

"It's no problem firefighter Barbie. I have dealt with worse patients," Amelia said as she laughed. "Congratulations on the newest addition to your family!" she added.

"Thank you!" Maya said as she smiled.

Amelia turned her attention to the teenager and pointed her finger towards her. "Remember what I told you kid? No more injuries!" she warned playfully.

"Got it!" Maddie said as she saluted jokingly.

Amelia laughed and shook her head before she walked out of the room.

"Alright, have you got everything?" Maya questioned as she picked up the duffle bag that was on the hospital bed.

"I think so," Maddie said as she briefly gazed around the room. "Come on mom, let's go!" she said enthusiastically.

"Calm down kiddo there isn't any rush," Maya said as she chuckled and looped her arm around her daughter's side to help her. "

"Of course, there is, my little cousin, is upstairs!" Maddie exclaimed.

Maya couldn't help but laugh and roll her eyes. "Alright kiddo. Come on," she said as they headed towards the elevators to go upstairs.

"Hey, I heard that we have a new member of the family," Maya said as she walked into the room with Maddie to see the new family of three on the bed. "Hi honey," she said as she moved to kiss her wife on the lips.

"Hi Bella," Carina smiled as she returned the kiss. "Chloe did absolutely amazing," she motioned to the woman lay in bed as she held the small bundle in her arms while Mason looked at them both in awe.

"Congratulations to you both," Maya said as she smiled at them both. "How do you feel, Chloe?" she questioned.

"Sore." Chloe couldn't help but say and laugh slightly.

"Thanks, sis," Mason said as he looked up at his sister and smiled.

"Hi Uncle Mase, hi Chloe!" Maddie said as she smiled and moved to sit on a chair beside her two moms.

"Hi Maddie," Chloe said as she smiled tiredly.

"Hey, kid," Mason said and grinned at his niece. "Meet the newest member of the family," He said as he motioned to the newborn wrapped up in a blanket.

"Wow Mase, I can't believe that you're a dad now," Maya said as she looked over at him with his son.

"I know," Mason said as he had tears in his eyes while he looked down at his newborn son. "Maya, would you like to hold your nephew?" He offered kindly.

Maya smiled widely and nodded her head. "Of course, I would," she agreed as Mason gently picked up the little one and placed him in Maya's arms. Maya looked down at the baby and smiled in awe. "Hi, there little guy, my name is Maya and I'm your auntie. You know you're pretty adorable all for a newborn," she said as she looked at everyone as they held back their laughs. "What?" she asked confused.

It wasn't any secret that Maya had barely experienced being around babies, other than Maddie of course and hence why she had this adult conversation with a newborn who just looked up at her wide eyes.

"Nothing Bella," Carina said as she smiled and watched her wife with their new nephew, she couldn't wait until the day the two of them decided to have children, sure they already had Maddie but it would be nice for them to have another little one to run around as well. The two of them briefly talked about it and it had led to an argument, but Maya said they could talk about it in the near future, so hopefully one day the topic could be brought up again.

Maddie looked over at the tiny newborn in her moms' arms and smiled. "What's his name, uncle Mase?" she questioned.

Mason looked at Chloe and they both shared a smile. "Toby. Toby Nathaniel Bishop," He told them all.

"Oh, that's adorable." Katherine gushed with pride and tried to hold the tears back.

"I like it!" Maddie said as she smiled

Maya smiles and looks down at Toby. "I think that name suits you well buddy, welcome to the family." She said.

"Can I hold him?" Maddie questioned as she fondly looked over at her new cousin.

"Yes of course you can," Chloe said tiredly while Maya carefully handed Maddie the baby who had his eyes opened slightly as he stared at Maddie who he was unfamiliar too.

"Just be careful to support his neck, Bambina," Carina told her softly as Maddie smiled and moved her hand to support his neck just like Carina had told her to do.

"Hi Toby, I'm Maddie and I'm your big cousin," Maddie said in awe to the newborn in her arms. "Wow, you're really tiny." She said.

Maya let out a slight laugh and smiled watching the two of them. "You was his size once Maddie," she told her daughter.

Katherine watched the two of her grandchildren together and began to get emotional. "Where's my phone? I need to get a photo of this moment," she said.

"No, not any photos," Maddie whined dramatically.

"Moms' getting emotional again," Mason joked as he flashed his niece a smile.

Maya laughed and shook her head. "Come on Maddie, let your grandma take her photos," she said amused.

Maddie sighed dramatically as Katherine took several different photos of them both.

"Okay now let's get some with you, Chloe and baby Toby," Katherine said as she looked over at Mason who gently took Toby from Maddie. The three of them sat on the bed as Katherine snapped different photos.

"You want a photo, sis?" Mason questioned as Maya nodded, Mason handed her his son as Maya and Carina comfortably sat with the baby in their arms and smiled at the camera. "Mads, go and sit next to your mom," he motioned for his niece to join the photos.

"How about one with just Mason, Maya and the kids?" Chloe suggested. The adults agreed and Maddie groaned, she hated photos.

"Come on Mads," Maya said as she laughed and sat her daughter on her knee while Mason sat beside them with Toby in his arms. "Only a few more," she added as she tickled Maddie which caused her to laugh.

"Okay, group photo!" Katherine announced as they all moved over to the bed. Chloe lay in the hospital bed with Mason beside her, Toby in her arms as Maya and Carina stood near the bed with Maddie standing in front of them and they smiled at the camera.

"Hey mom, how about you have one with the kids?" Mason suggested.

"That sounds good," Maya said in agreement while Katherine nodded and handed the camera to Maya.

"Please tell me this is the last picture," Maddie said as she groaned and moved to the chair, which Katherine sat down with Maddie on her knee and Toby in her arms. "I'm sorry for yelling at you grandma. I shouldn't have done that," she said quietly.

Katherine smiled at her granddaughter and smiled. "It's okay sweetheart, thank you for apologising" she accepted her apology.

"Oh! We need to get a whole group one," Carina said as she walked out the room briefly and gestured for a nurse to follow her in, she handed her the phone as they all gathered around the bed again and smiled for the picture.

"No more pictures," Maddie whined dramatically.

Maya chuckled and ruffled her daughter's hair. "No more pictures," she said.

Maddie smiled and looked down at the newborn in Chloe's arms from where she was stood. "You have all of this to come still Toby," she paused. "Welcome to the family," she added.
