Juárez LaRusso House
Pain.
Rage.
That's all that Johnny feels when he sees his son in Daniel LaRusso's dojo, in his home. While he's been desperately wishing to reconcile with Robby, he was off with Daniel this whole time. What makes matters worse is the thought of him being around Rosalía too. The woman he loves invited Robby into her home and probably treated him like her own son... but with Daniel by her side instead of him. His heart shatters as he watches his son stand in front of Daniel to defend him. "If you want to fight him, you're gonna have to fight me first," Robby states as he glares at him. Johnny's eyes flicker between the two before fixating on the boy. He's never defended me like that.
"You gotta be kidding me..." he softly utters, the hurt seeping into his voice. He exits the dojo without another word and Daniel stands there in shock. "Wha..." he mutters as he sets his hands on his hips and paces further into the dojo. He sighs, placing his hand over his forehead. Robby turns to him fearfully, knowing he messed up. "Mr. LaRusso, I-I was gonna tell you," he speaks up before the older man interrupts. "Was this all just a con? Some kind of sick mind game you tried to pull off on me?" he demands as he angrily turns around to face the boy. "No, no, no, no, it wasn't like that!" Robby tries to clarify. "You lied to me!" Daniel voices, feeling betrayed.
Robby feels extremely guilty but the man is too blinded by hurt and anger to care. "Please. Please," the boy begs, trying to explain himself. However, Daniel isn't having it. "Get out. Now! And don't come back to this house, not to the dealership, not ever," he talks over him as he walks forward, making the boy step back until he's through the door. "You got that? Ever again!" he concludes. Robby tries to apologize again but Daniel slams the door in his face. Meanwhile, Johnny furiously climbs into his car and turns it on, causing the engine to rev loudly. The tires screech as he drives away, catching Rosalía's attention. Is Daniel home? She wonders as she gets off the couch and heads outside.
She saunters along the side of the house in search of her husband and finds a distressed-looking Robby. "Robby," she calls, making his head snap up. His face falters a bit more when he sees the woman, the thought of her hating him too hurts. "What's wrong, mijo?" she asks, approaching him. The boy immediately starts apologizing. "I-I- I'm so sorry, Mrs. JL, I messed up. I really messed up. I should've been honest with you guys," he babbles. Rosalía shoots him a puzzled glance. "What do you mean?" she asks. The teen looks down and shakes his head, hesitating to tell her. "Robby," the woman voices, making him look at her. "You can talk to me," she states, giving him a reassuring look.
The boy is still hesitant but he knows it's better if she discovers the truth from him. "Okay, um... Mr. LaRusso found out that my dad... is Johnny Lawrence," he finally reveals. The woman's eyes slightly widen as she stares at him with her mouth agape. "Oh..." she trails off, taking in the information. "I swear I was gonna tell you. I came here to tell Mr. LaRusso but then he and my dad walked in and- and-" Robby rambles before Rosalía cuts him off. "And then they both overreacted," she assumes, sighing. The boy gawks at her, a bit shocked to hear her say that. Is she on my side? He wonders. "Mr. LaRusso told me to never come back," he breathes out, his voice laced with hurt.
The woman's heart aches for the teenager. "Don't listen to him, he's just mad. He always gets super dramatic when he's mad. He'll come around," she tells him, lightly rolling her eyes. Robby nods, hoping she's right. "You're not mad at me?" he asks, not believing how compassionate she's being. The woman smiles softly and shakes her head. "No, of course not. Sure, you lied but don't we all? And I get why you did it, I wouldn't want to tell Daniel I was the son of his enemy either," she responds. A bit of relief washes over the boy, thankful that she didn't shun him. Although, guilt presents itself as well. "Mrs. JL, I really am sorry... I just wanted to get back at my dad. That was really stupid of me," he apologizes.
"Mm... sometimes we act on emotion and completely forget about logic. It's part of being human. You made a mistake and now you're learning from it. Everything's gonna be fine, okay? Daniel will get over it," Rosalía claims, stepping closer and grasping his shoulder. "Thank you," the boy whispers, smiling appreciatively at her. "I should get home now," he mentions. The woman takes her hand off his shoulder and pulls him into a hug. "Yeah, travel safe, okay?" she responds, patting his back before letting go. Robby grins and nods, the woman's actions mean so much to him. He strides away and Rosalía calls out, "you look nothing like your dad, by the way!" The boy stops in his tracks and turns around, chuckling.
"Is that a good thing?"
The woman shrugs. "In this case, yeah," she replies, causing the boy to chuckle. "Goodnight, Mrs. JL," he voices before turning and walking away. "Goodnight, Robby," she returns. When he's finally out of sight, Rosalía makes a beeline to the dojo. She opens the door and steps inside, seeing her upset husband holding a broken trophy in his hands. "Hey," she pipes up, capturing the man's attention. He sighs when he spots her, showing her the trophy. "Things must've gotten rough, huh?" she remarks as she nears him. "You heard?" Daniel asks her, gazing at her skeptically. "Robby told me," Rosalía confirms. The man rolls his eyes and scoffs at the mention of the boy's name. "So he told you who his dad is," he assumes.
His wife nods. "Yeah and he feels awful about lying to us," she mentions. Daniel scoffs again. "Oh, please, this was all probably just a game to mess with me," he spits. There he goes being dramatic again, the woman thinks. "Not everything's about you, you know," she points out. "He's a kid who's been hurting most of his life because of his father's absence and just wanted to hurt him back. Although he did end up loving you in the end, loving this family," she continues. Daniel just sighs. He tries to consider her words but it's hard for him right now when he's trying to be angry. However, now that his wife is here, he's reminded of something. "Speaking of his father," he changes the subject.
"How come you never told me that you and Johnny kissed when you saw each other again?" he asks. Rosalía is taken aback by the question. That's something she hasn't thought about in ages. "What?" she reacts. Daniel shoots her a pointed look. "Johnny told me that you kissed when you came back from Texas," he depicts. His wife seems to be unfazed by this. "Oh, yeah," she simply answers. The man raises his eyebrows, expecting more of a reaction. "Oh, yeah??' That's it? Why didn't you tell me about it?" he questions. Rosalía shrugs. "Well, I didn't think it was necessary, it was before we met," she casually responds. "But you told me you hung out, why'd you leave that important part out?" Daniel instantly replies.
"It's so random! How would I have thrown that in there? 'Yeah, we hung out for a couple of days and then we kissed and now he wants to get back together," Rosalía phrases. "Do you hear how messy that sounds?? It wasn't a necessary piece of information and I... I liked you... I didn't want you to think there was still something there with Johnny," she adds. Daniel's face softens when she says, "I liked you," feeling his heart melt a little. Knowing her reason does help make him feel better. "Oh, Rosie," he softly utters, caressing her chin with his thumb and index finger before taking her face in his hand and kissing her forehead.
"It's just I thought you hated him back then so it's weird to think that you kissed him," he expresses. Rosalía wags her finger and pipes up, "oh, no, he kissed me." She reflects on the memory that's been buried underneath all her other memories. "Although I did accept it because... well, he was good at it," she mentions, shrugging. Daniel groans upon hearing this. "Really??" he complains. Rosalía sticks her finger up again and adds, "you brought it up!"
"Why'd you have to say that though?"
"It was once."
"Come on, dude."
"And I stopped it."
They talk over each other, Daniel whining while his wife blurts out little explanations. "I stopped it when I realized what I was doing because I didn't want to lead him on. I just wanted to stay friends, and you know how it went from there," Rosalía conveys. Daniel nods, recalling what she had told him and the chain of events from 34 years ago. At least now he knows why Johnny was so hellbent on ruining his life over Rosalía. He kind of feels bad for him now. Nevertheless, he still wouldn't change a thing about the past because it led to his wife. "Look," the woman commences, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"It doesn't matter anyway because it was so long ago and it was only one time... I've kissed you thousands of times over the decades," she claims, making her husband chuckle as he gazes at her lovingly. "It's always been you... It will always be you. Remember? Time after time..." she trails off, waiting for Daniel to finish the quote. The man's smile broadens and Rosalía can see a twinkle in his eyes. "It's me and you," he softly phrases. His wife beams at him before they lean in to connect their lips in a meaningful kiss.
