Y/n talked with Josuke and Okuyasu along the way to school.
She noticed that Josuke seemed a bit iffy whenever Okuyasu and y/n enthusiastically talked about some subjects and figured that maybe he felt a little left out.

She did her best to include him in some conversations and Josuke seemed to brighten up after she did so.

"And Okuyasu! Stop putting your arm around her, she's a girl you know, you can't be too touchy." Josuke said, frowning at Okuyasu's arm around y/n again.

"Oh," this seemed to make Okuyasu's brain jog its three or four brain cells. "Do you wanna put your arm around her too?"

"No that's not what I meant!"

"Josuke are you okay?" y/n stood in front of him and placed a hand on his forehead and another on hers. "You're not running up with a fever but you're quite uptight today."

Okuyasu nodded and stood still for a minute thinking, before wriggling his eyebrows at Josuke.
"I know i'm not really smart but this time i think i got it," he winked at the boy. "If you're jealous just say so, it's showing dude."

"N-no! W-what jealous! I was just thinking it'll make her uncomfortable..." Josuke looked away, scratching his hair embarrassed.

Y/n nudged Josuke with her elbow. "Thanks for being so thoughtful Josuke but i'm alright with Okuyasu's arm around me, it's not as if he does it for long periods of time. If he tries anything I'll bash his head right in!" The two boys looked to each other in horror as y/n beamed.

"I won't try anything I swear," Okuyasu gave her a small bow. "Please don't kill me."
Y/n ruffled Okuyasu's hair and glanced at Josuke.

"Again, thanks for looking out for me, that's really sweet of you," she kept her laughter in when a small tint of pink appeared on Josuke's cheeks.
Aw Josuke was just so fun to tease.

"You're trying to play with me again..with all those words like s-sweet," his slight stutter made y/n want to tease him even more.

"But you like it don't you?"

"Ayo just date already," Okuyasu mumbled before he turned his head down at the street. "Hey guys, isn't that Koichi standing over there?"
y/n and Josuke turned to see Koichi standing in front of this short guy with a fan haircut.

"Yeah that's Koichi," Josuke sighed. "That kid hangs out with shady-looking characters all the time."

"Since when?" y/n asked, "Koichi is a good kid!"

"He looks like he's having fun!" Okuyasu pointed out.
Y/n scowled and stepped past Okuyasu.
She squinted her eyes to see the expression on Koichi's face, when unable to do so, she summoned Gentle to see through its eyes.

Gentle didn't help much either so she just gave up.
His body was kind of tensed up so this conversation most probably wasn't something pleasant.

Without any words, y/n started to make her way down the stairs her frown ever so deepening.
Koichi then fell to the ground shouting something and y/n heard footsteps following behind her.

She assumed that it was either Josuke or Okuyasu, they must have sensed something wrong too.

"What's going on here?" the cylindrical haired guy turned to meet y/n's stern e/c eyes, Koichi letting out a sigh of relief.

"Y/n! Josuke! Okuyasu!" he exclaimed, y/n's eyes trailed down to see a huge lock embedded into Koichi's chest. There was a red glow on it and it immediately struck her as a Stand.

"A grown man trying to threaten a high school kid for money?" Josuke's voice was filled with contempt. "Try getting a job to earn your money."

"Now look! You little gaijin and little boys stay out of this!"

Y/n felt her eye twitch.
Seriously?
Why did everyone she meet immediately call her a gaijin? Where the hell was the manners that her mother kept talking about?

"No we can't," Josuke gently held her wrist as Okuyasu stepped forward. "Not when there's some smelly trash around, using some petty Stand. We've got to take out that trash properly."
Y/n felt her eye twitch more, why did Josuke always stop her whenever she wanted to throw a punch?
Not to mention, how did he know she was going to start hitting things?

Did he read her expression or something?

Okuyasu pulled at the lock in Koichi's chest.

"This seriously isn't coming off." he said, pulling at the end of the lock with no avail.

"Woah wait.. you guys can see it too?" fan hair asked. "Just how many of you can see that?"

Josuke let go of y/n's wrist and gave her a face as if asking her to behave before he approached the man. "That's what I want to know, but right now that doesn't matter."

"Take the lock off him," y/n said before Josuke could continue, she stood in front of the short man, instantly towering over him.

The man's temple twitched.
"Listen up here you brats! I'm not playing games here!" He walked towards a bag on the road. "Sinners must pay for their sins. That's the rule of society."

Y/n started to walk towards the man, getting angrier as time passed.

"Y/n," Josuke held her arm but she brushed his hand away.

"Or what? You're going to pay me instead of Koichi? Then i'll let you off the hook." he laughed and continued walking.
It was obvious enough that he was trying to get away from them since now there were four of them and two looking pretty much like gangsters.

"Money's money to me!"

"Oh? You're gonna try to get money from me?" Okuyasu asked, leaning forward and approaching him. "Just try it, damn it!"

"Wait you just took ¥7000 from me!" Koichi shouted and y/n joined Okuyasu's side.

"That was the fee for lying to me!" he snapped at Koichi. "Are you trying to pay for that poor kitten's life with just ¥7000? That just won't do."
Y/n flinched when she saw a puddle of blood seeping from the somewhat flattened bag on the road.
Her anger suddenly dissipated and was replaced with shock and pity.

That poor kitty didn't need to die!

Her eyes wandered to a bicycle lying nearby, by the looks of it the bicycle was pretty new and y/n figured that it was Koichi's.
So Koichi had accidentally mowed over a kitten in a bag?
Either ways it didn't look like Koichi meant to do it, so it baffled y/n when the man had the audacity to demand for five hundred grand.

"Come on five hundred-" Okuyasu decked him across the cheek.

"Just shut up!"

"Hey don't push it," Josuke said from behind but Okuyasu paid no heed.

"Shut yer trap, you dumbass. We told you to give back his ¥7000 so give it!"
The man then stumbled back, well not really stumble , but wobbled back a few feet towards the safety railings at the side, before falling and slamming his mouth against the pavement, his tooth flying out.

"OW MY FRONT TOOTH!" he screeched.

"W-why the hell did you wobble around and fall over on your own?" Okuyasu asked, smirking at the bleeding adult.

"What do you mean on my own? How dare you say that after hitting me?" he let out a long gasp. "My front tooth's gone. You're so cruel!"

Okuyasu's brow twitched a little as perspiration dripped down the side of his face. "H-hey are you alright..?"

"Wait okuyasu! DONT FEEL ANY GUILT TOWARDS HIM!" Koichi's warning came a tad bit too late as a lock grew and locked itself in Okuyasu's chest. "He did it on purpose!"

"Front my teeth are pretty expensive you know.. since i don't have insurance."

"Y-you..!"

"Hey why don't try anything funny-" y/n palm slammed his chin, causing his already bleeding teeth to clash against each other.
He screamed and fell to the floor for real, blood blubbering out from new wounds in his mouth.

"Oh no my gums!! That's going to be very-" a left hook to his gut knocked the air out of him and he slumped against the railings sobbing.

"Y/n what are you doing? His Stand will get..." Koichi trailed off as y/n dusted dirt off her uniform.

"His Stand will not get me because in fact," she rolled her shoulders. "I don't feel guilt at all towards scum like him."

"Josuke, I'm not going to agree on not breaking jaws today because first," y/n held a finger up and wagged it at Josuke. "We aren't in school. Second," she cracked her knuckles. "This bitch called me a gaijin. Why do every Japanese I meet keep calling me a gaijin? It's not my fault i have blonde streaks in my hair damn it."

Y/n summoned Gentle and together, they punched the man hard in the face, most probably shattering a bone in his nose or maybe possibly giving him a concussion.

"Oi y/n that's enough," Josuke called out and surprisingly, y/n found herself being able to stop herself. "Is this the kitten that you said Koichi ran over?" the fan haired man was barely conscious as Josuke directed the question at him, holding up a bloodied cat plush he had dug out from the bloody sack.

"A stuffed animal?!" Koichi turned to the man. "It was a stuffed animal all along?"

The man seemed to panic, y/n guessing that Josuke saw through the bluff already.

"Hm," he walked over to stand beside y/n, flicking her head before squatting down to assess the damage done to the man. "Here, let me see. I picked up your front tooth for you. And oh, you seem to have suffered some major punches but it's fine."

He healed the man, his injuries disappearing and his tooth back in its position.

"It's all better now," the man gnashed his teeth together and checked his body as if wanting to see whether Josuke was lying or not. When he saw that the boy didn't lie, the locks on Okuyasu's and Koichi's chest had released itself and vanished.

"It's gone!" Okuyasu said happily.

Koichi too, celebrated with him. "Yay!! My heart feels so much lighter now!"

"W-who are you?!" the man shouted at Josuke, standing up and walking backwards.

"Aren't you forgetting the ¥7 000?" Josuke stepped forward and the man flinched.

"All right! I'll give it back!" he placed Koichi's wallet on her floor and held his hands up.

"Once the money's down, hurry up and get out of here dumbass!" Okuyasu spat, the man instantly turning around and fleeing.

Koichi picked up the wallet relieved, letting out a sound of shock when he pulled at the bills.
"The bills..he took them!" Koichi held onto the corners of his two 1000 yen and 5000 yen bills. "He took the big parts that the bank would exchange!"

"T-that bastard!" Josuke said, y/n frowned and stuffed her hands into the pockets of her skirt.

He should have let her beat that guy into a pulp but whatever, fan haired man was long gone and there was nothing she could do about it.

"Unforgivable! It's not even my money!" Okuyasu trembled with rage.

"We're going to be late for school, oi Koichi, if you need the ¥ 7 000 i can lend it to you. Just pay me back tomorrow or something." y/n dug through her wallet and pulled out two 1000 yen and a 5000 yen bills.

"H-huh no way! Y/n that's-" she grabbed his hand and pressed the bills into his palm.

"Shut up and take it," she sighed before picking up Okuyasu's and Josuke's bags that lay on the ground. "Let's go already."

•••

"Y/n," she flinched when Josuke threw a paper plane at her head. "Y/n~ y/n don't ignore me."

"What?!" she growled, putting her pen down and giving a quick look at the teacher before looking at Josuke who was sitting beside her.

"Are you angry at me?" he asked, resting his cheek on his palm.

"No," she kept silent for awhile before correcting herself. "Yes, but I feel that it's my fault."

"Sometimes punching and asking questions later isn't as good as you think it is," y/n avoided his eyes as he fixed them on her. "There are always alternatives in every situation."

Y/n played with the tip of her pencil and chewed her bottom lip.
She felt like a little child being reprimanded by her father, it was a nostalgic feeling that she felt before except that...

Wait..nostalgic?

Y/n let out a hiss when her head throbbed, an old memory surfacing.

"Oh y/n my beloved daughter, how many times have I told you to not eat sweets before dinner?"
a child y/n was playing with her fingers and biting her lip, her eyes fixated on the wooden planked floor with tears brimming in her eyes.

Her father sighed.

"Mama has put in a lot of effort in cooking our meals and it's not good to spoil your appetite before the meals she cook." a hand patted her head gently. "Papa doesn't want to scold you again alright? Be a good girl for me and mama hm?"

"O-okay..sorry papa."

"Do apologise to mama too sweetie." her father pulled her in for a hug, his large hands patting her small back. He pressed a small kiss to her forehead. "You're a good girl."

Y/n snapped back into reality and found a broken pencil in her hand.
She turned to a concerned looking Josuke confused.

"What happened?" he took the pencil from her and repaired it, placing it back on her table.

"You just suddenly spaced out and snapped the pencil, you okay? Do you want to go to the nurse office?"

Y/n shook her head.
The fuzzy memories from her childhood were coming back.

"I just...remembered something from my childhood...." she trailed off.
Why exactly had she forgotten mostly everything from twelve years old and below?

Yeah she remembered birthdays, but she couldn't remember any significant events or how her father looked like at all, what was that all about.

"Y/n," Josuke touched her hand and she jumped in response.

"Ah yes.."

"As I was saying," Josuke slowly pulled his hand away from hers, his eyes never leaving her e/c orbs. "You do need to think more before acting."

Y/n furrowed her brows before nodding.

"I'll try..." she thought back of the instances where she kinda punched the living daylights out of many people. She couldn't do anything right could she? Did Josuke not like her brash personality?
Maybe this was his way of not being friends with her anymore.

Come on, in a day she needed to deal with the fact that she had memory problems and now a loss of a new friendship?

Break my leg already..

"Sorry i'm not too much of a good person right now. I can't seem to do anything right." she offered an apology, her mind racing with many different possibilities of why Josuke had pointed this out to her.

"Hey look at me," she slowly raised her head to look at Josuke . "You're a good person, you're trying and I can tell." y/n felt her tears rise.

"you gave Koichi that ¥7 000 even though I was sure that you hardly have any left for yourself," he chuckled.
"I'm telling you this because I want you to be able to protect yourself in the future. This rashness of yours will eventually come around to hurt you one day and as I promised, I'll protect you but I'm sure you're more than capable enough to do that yourself."

Josuke patted her head, the warmth of his hand making her relax under it. "You control your feelings okay? Don't let it control you."

Y/n stayed silent and blushed furiously as Josuke smiled at her.
His goddamn dreamy smile made her heart beat faster than usual, her tears were replaced with the hotness in her cheeks and she did not in any way appreciate that.
Since he was so close, his plump pink lips seemed to stand out to y/n and she seemed to once more get lost again in his eyes.

"HIGASHIKATA! ARE YOU BULLYING Y/N?" the both of them jumped at the teacher shouted at them.

"NO SIR, SHE GOT A FLY ON HER HEAD AND I CAUGHT IT."

"What bullshit...! Ah whatever it's lunch now stop flirting and go and eat! Class is dismissed!!"

"Mr Yamada is kinda salty he isn't married huh."

"OI WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ME!? DETENTION FOR YOU MR TAKAHASHI!"

"WATTAFUCKBRO!"

Y/n turned her attention away from the commotion in front of class and started to pack her bags, face flushed and all.

What Josuke said, about promising to protect her.. he really meant it huh?
And his faith in y/n that she was well and able to protect herself made her blush.
This was the first time someone believed in her so much and was just so....caring.

Everyone had shunned away from her ever since her mother's death, even the teachers in her old school tormented her by treating her as if she didn't exist.

Every hallway she walked down she could hear whispers and snickering , all claiming that y/n was acting all innocent after she murdered her mother.

Before she moved to this school, y/n was treated like garbage by everyone in that neighbourhood of Morioh but now...

She had a friend that was willing to find out who murdered her mother and Josuke..seemed to be always there for her.

"Josuke!" he looked up from packing his bag. "Thank you."

"No problem!" his goofy smile made y/n smile too.

•••

Josuke felt concerned when y/n spaced out.
It looked as if her entire soul had been sucked out and thrown in another dimension, her body being a mere husk.

It was like when she fought him in the field.

Y/n was able to answer questions but during that short time frame, y/n seemed to have hollowed out completely.

Josuke quietly watched her before turning his gaze away.

Another time, he decided, that he would ponder about it.
