"Moviee night!!" You cheered, jumping onto the sofa beside your best friend and pulling over the other half of the large blanket he had.
The fabric was soft as you nuzzled against it. You could also smell the faint scent of his cologne and feel the warmth of his body heat. All of these different sensations drove you crazy.
Seungmin drove you crazy—crazy for him.
It's been around 5 months since you developed feelings for the boy. How were you supposed to stay as friends when he was so perfect and lovable? You've always thought he would make the best boyfriend, even husband, in the future. You just didn't realize how much you wanted him to be yours.
Still, you were way too scared of rejection to say anything. Act normal. That was the plan. And it seemed to be working because he hasn't noticed the way your ears would flush from his actions, or how your heart would beat rapidly when he was around. Just like now, as you layed close to him to watch the film he picked tonight.
The lights were off and the curtains were drawn over the windows to darken the room even further despite the sky being filled with enough black ink, illuminated with thousands of bright dots.
"What are we watching?"
"A Netflix series I was recommended. I heard it's good."
Hs smiles and you nod your head happily. He selects the first episode before it began to play. It was nice, spending time with him on the weekends just to relax. But 3 hours of homework had exhausted you earlier, which didn't help with keeping your mind awake.
The TV screen began to blur as your vision was flicking between darkness and light. Slowly, your eyelids began to close and open, before finally resting and staying down. You had lost track of time but you knew it had been at least 40 minutes into the episode when you dozed off into slumber.
Seungmin had not realized you were no longer paying attention until the top of your head had fell over, hanging loosely to the opposite side of him.
"Y/n?"
You gave no reply, and continued to inhale and exhale slow and soft breaths with your mouth slightly open like a baby.
"You're sleeping? Like that?" He raised a brow before letting out a sigh. "Don't overwork yourself so much. Those projects and assignments weren't even due until Tuesday. You still had 3 days."
Silence again. He reaches over and gently lifts your head, leaning it onto his shoulder for it to be more comfortable. As he looked down at your face, he couldn't believe how beautiful you were sleeping so peacefully.
How was he lucky enough to be here with you? To see you everyday and admire you? To hear you laugh? To make you smile? How was he able to be apart of your life and be so, so close to your heart? So close, yet so far—as you were not lovers, but best friends. Two people that share a bond, full of affection, however only to an extent that it could not be called a love of anything more. Not a true love. Not a love he so desperately wished for.
"The things you do to me," Seungmin whispered, sliding a hand up to your cheek and holding it there. "I want to tell you everything. The secrets I've kept, the feelings I've hidden, the longing for your affection. I don't know how you haven't noticed yet. You're just too pretty for me to forget about."
His thumb brushed over your lips, careful not to wake you up. You were perfect. Those eyelashes, that hair, your cheeks—you looked stunning to him. Unconsciously, he began to lean in, stopping only centimeters away from contact.
Your breaths mixed together in a warm air between you two. If he wanted to —and he did want to— he could kiss you right now and you would never know. He wouldn't have to feel embaressed or nervous. Except, he wished he could kiss you and confess so easily with you being awake. Why did it have to be so hard?
After seconds of not making a move, he decided to just stay there. To be close and admire your features for a bit. He would never do this if your eyes were open, but they weren't so he had his chance. Unbeknownst to him that your mind was slowly regaining consciousness.
And soon, you felt his touch, his warmth, his figure right in front of you. Inside, your heart was pounding and you wondered what was happening. You pretended to still be asleep with your eyelids closed, chest steadying.
"If only you knew," Seungmin's familiar voice rang. "Perhaps you do know, but act like you don't so it doesn't hurt me. So I don't ruin our friendship. Nonetheless, I still want your love. Even if it breaks what we have now and we become awkward strangers, I can't help how I feel. I love you, y/n. If you could hear me, what would you say?"
"I'd say that my ears were playing tricks on me."
You hesitantly laughed, finally letting yourself see him and his terrifyingly shocked face. He immediately let go of your cheek and backed away.
"You—You were awake??" He exclaimed in disbelief.
"I just woke up now, but did I hear correctly? I mean— you did say that, right? You did mean it, didn't you?" You looked at him hopefully.
"I–"
Seungmin paused, then took a deep breath. When the nerves electrifying his body had calmed down a little, his shoulders relaxed and he mustered the courage to meet your gaze, despite you yourself feeling all sorts of crazy emotions running around your head. But somehow just by a simple eye contact, you gained confidence in what you were doing.
"I like you–"
"I like you–"
—both of you simultaneously confessed.
It was like you and him figured that this was the best time to say it, so you couldn't let that moment go to waste.
He broke into a laugh, and you joined. The tension in the room had eased away, along with any anxiousness creeping above your skin. Seungmin exhaled, relieved.
"I thought I was the only one who was going insane here. I'm glad you're just as crazy as I am."
You rolled your eyes.
"Honestly, I never believed I would catch feelings for you. My best friend of all people. It sounded silly and I chose to ignore it. That was, until... I couldn't," you admitted.
"Then will you allow me—" he grabbed your hands, intertwining your fingers together. "—to be your boyfriend instead?"
You couldn't hold back the smile forming on your face. Nothing beat the satisfaction you got from hearing those words.
"OF COURSE!!"
You let go of his hands and jumped into his arms, embracing him around the neck. Seungmin pulled you closer to him. His palm secured the back of your head that was buried into his shoulder.
Suddenly, he felt a pair of soft and warm lips press light kisses onto his collarbone. His ears heat up at the sensation.
"Are you really doing that right after we got together?"
"You don't like it?"
Your voice feigned innocence but you knew he enjoyed what you were doing to him.
"I— no, it's fine. I just preferred you did that to my lips."
He waited for you to move, and within a matter of seconds, he finally got the taste of what he had yearned for after so long. You were both smiling into it, hearts at ease despite racing as one. That night became unforgettable.
