It was late at night and I was walking back home by myself since my car broke down, I sincerely hated the fact I had to walk throughout this scary city alone until I made it home.
Reader: Oh damn, I forgot to call Aiden to tell him my car is gonna stay at the company's parking lot for the night.
I pulled my phone and tried booting it online, but the battery was dead because someone decided to use my charger and didn't retrieved it...
Reader: I can call him when I get home.
I was walking pass a gas station with its light flickering around, the store was still open and across the street there was a phone booth.
Reader: I can use that booth to get that off my head before I forget it.
I walked into the store to get some change for the booth, the guy behind the counter seemed really fucking pissed to be here late at night.
Reader: Hey man, give me a change for this 5.
Cashier: You buying anything?
Reader: No... I just want the change.
Cashier: I'll give you the change if you buy something...
My god this guy sounds annoying and the fact he's not even looking at me, he's staring at the mirror in the ceiling behind me.
Reader: Look here buddy, I'm here for the change if I wanted to buy something I'd pick it up.
Cashier: You can leave the store if you aren't buying anything...
I had it with this guy, I grabbed his head and smashed his chin onto the counter, he fell on his butt knocking over the cigarette packs above him.
CRACK!
Cashier: Wha-d fwuk duud?
I think his jaw is dislocated...
Reader: Change... now.
He quickly pulled out the change for the 5 note I handed him, I gave him a slight nod and left the store.
Reader: Now, let's call Aiden.
I entered the phone booth and closed the small door behind me, I slid in the coin and typed Aiden's number.
Reader: Hope he's not busy pleasuring himself...
???: Hello.
A weird voice spoke through the phone it was deep and it was easy to realise it was using a voice modifier to talk, I thought this was just a prank and hung up the phone.
Reader: I must've called the wrong number.
I slowly pressed the buttons of Aiden's number, I waited for the call to go through.
???: Hanging up on someone isn't nice Reader...
Reader: Say what? Aiden if it's you pulling a prank on me I swear I'll-
???: Aiden is not here, neither you'll be calling him again tonight.
Reader: What? Who are you? How do you know my name?
???: I know a lot about you Reader, Call me the Caller for now, I'm here for the truth...
Reader: Okay Caller, What sort of truth do you want?
Caller: Everything.
Reader: And what I don't want to respond to your questions?
Caller: I have a Barrett M82 .50 aimed at your chest, don't answer my questions and I'll shoot you. Simple.
This prank call is so scary, this person totally has an scope on me.
Reader: Ah hahaha, Sure you do... Look I gotta go home so you can try that trick with someone else...
I hung up the phone again and opened the door of the booth, as soon as I stepped out I saw a bullet hit the booth on its door making sparkles go everywhere, I laid on the floor and heard the phone ringing again.
Reader: What the fuck?! That person wasn't joking!
I slowly crawled back inside the booth again and answered the phone.
Caller: You believe me now?
Reader: Okay you made your point! what do you want?
Caller: I told you already, I want the truth...
Reader: What truth?!
Caller: Let's begin with the basic, have you ever lied in your life Reader?
Reader: Yes, countless times for countless people, I did.
I began looking around the booth looking for something that hinted me the Caller's position, neither I see anything that could help me escape this place is open and this person has a vision on me from god knows where...
Caller: You admit that you are someone not to be trusted?
Reader: I stopped lying a long time ago.
Caller: No you haven't, you keep lying to yourself, living a life you don't have.
Reader: What do you mean?!
Caller: Your life is a lie Reader, you pretend to everyone that you are someone that doesn't exist. In your home when you're alone your true colours appear.
Reader: You've been watching me at my house?!
Caller: As I said, I know a lot about you...
Reader: Why are you doing this to me?
Caller: Because someone told me to be here...
Reader: Urgh, yes I am not someone to be trusted because I lie...
Caller: Hahaha! Perfect, you're doing great...
Reader: When this will end?
Caller: Whenever I say so, because right now you're the one in a scope.
Reader: sigh, What else do you want?
Caller: Call your girlfriend Elena, and tell her all about the affairs you've been having with your neighbour's wife.
Reader: WHAT? I haven't had any...
I saw the red laser reflex on my eye, I breathed in quickly and tried to get myself to calm down.
Caller: You have...
Reader: It was only once...
Caller: Yet, you did, you can't seem to control yourself now do you Reader?
Reader: Yea...
Caller: Say it, out loud admit that you're a cheater....
Reader: I'M A CHEATER! There, done.
Caller: Now, call your girlfriend and tell her the truth.
Reader: I... can't do that.
Caller: Do you love her?

Caller: Why do you betray her then?
Reader: We had a fight on that day, Both of us were upset and I was easily dragged into it.
Caller: So that's why you lie?
Reader: I don't want to lose her...
Someone walked over to my phone booth, it was the guy from the store, he seemed pissed and brought with him some friends.
Caller: Looks like someone you beat up is trying to get back at you.
Reader: Oh damn it...
Caller: Whatever he does, don't hang up and don't leave the booth.
Reader: I can't-
The four guys surrounded the phone booth, they seem like a bunch of crack heads, and alongside them the Cashier from earlier.
Crack head 1: Hey! Step out the booth! We have something to discuss!
I tried ignoring them banging on the glass and pushing the booth making it rock around a little.
Reader: I can't just hang up this call, is important.
They kept on shaking the booth making me lose balance, I grabbed onto the phone and stopped myself from falling.
Crackhead 2: Well is gonna have to wait.
He pulled out a crowbar and smashed the window of the of the booth, shards of glass fell onto me making small cuts on my head and arms as I kept trying to avoid hanging up.
Caller: Do you need my help? I can kill each.
Reader: No.
One of them grabbed onto my shirt and began pulling me out, the others began helping as I kept trying to hold onto the phone.
Caller: Do you need my help?
Reader: Fine, yes!
I heard the bang and then I just saw one of the guy's head disappearing, I was shocked to know I was responsible for that death somehow.
Reader: Jesus!
Crackhead 1: What the fuck?! Jesus! You killed him!
Reader: I did not! Do you see a gun on me?
Crackhead 2: I see you're holding up weird shit!
The guys ran off, and I saw the neighbourhood had woken up to the shot, someone's gonna call the police.
Caller: Reader, do you remember a girl you once dated in High-School?
Reader: I don't, it was a long time ago I don't remember names...
Caller: Yes you do, You said she was the love of your life...
Reader: I was young and things didn't work the way I expected.
Caller: So you do remember her...
Reader: Yes, I do... Pamela Vince was her name...
Caller: Tell me more about this Pamela Vince, Reader...
Reader: She was a red haired cutesy she was shy and avoided talking to everyone, I had crush on her in high school my crush became reality when she asked me out, she was all shaky and stuttering on her words...

Reader: We've began dating and I was happy, and I think she was too, we did all those couple things: kisses, cuddles, gifts, hot late night at hers or my place...
Caller: What happened between you two?
Reader: Everything was great, but after 7 months she began acting weird, being aggressive and controlling, I hated being used like a toy. She manipulated me to cut ties with most of my friends, and only my mom made me realise that... We broke up and it was bad she seemed really upset but it had to be done...
I heard sirens, police cars were coming near by, I kinda felt relieved but at the same time worried now I could really be arrested for a crime I didn't committed.
Caller: You're pushing the blame on her...
Reader: I'm not!... Why are you asking about her of all the sudden? Those were things that happened 10 years ago.
Caller: What do you think it happened with that girl Reader?
Reader: The last I know, she was going to serve in the middle east or something...
Caller: She served for nine years, received many medals and was a specialist sniper, but no matter how many people praised her, she never felt complete. She needed the attention of someone in specific...
I began trying to connect the dots as the police officers parked around the booth, Along them a man in a fancy outfit probably a Negotiator.
Negotiator: Hey, Citizen I need you to step out of the phone booth, hang up and leave with your hands up...
Reader: I can't just hang up!
Negotiator: I'm Captain Hudson, and I sincerely don't want to harm you so step out the phone booth with your hands up.
Caller: The Captain is annoying me...
Reader: Captain Hudson, please I can't just hang up theres something important going on!
Hudson: We all have important things but right now what's more important is that you end that call and come outside.
Caller: Ask Hudson if he still plays those light novels because he's a failure in romance.
Reader: I can't ask that...
Caller: Ask or I'll shoot the Captain...

Reader: I did loved you Pamela! But your behaviour is what caused our break up.
Pamela: I joined the military only to unload my anger on something, throughout nine years I spent there, I never got over you...
Reader: Really?...
Pamela: I still have a portrait of us in front of the lake, I used to cry and make out with it all the time, I tried getting over you... but no matter how much alcohol and drugs I would take you would always come back.
I heard her sobbing through the phone.
Reader: Pamela, I... I'm sorry for what happened I know a simple sorry won't fix this but it's all I can do...
Pamela: There's one thing you can do. To prove to me that you love me to make my mind rest easy... And I promise that after that I'll let you leave.
Reader: What is it?
Pamela: Call your girlfriend, and tell her everything that happened between us.

Elena: Reader? Reader! What's happening?!
Elena arrived, things now gotten worse, the cops stopped her from proceeding.

I put my head outside the booth and yelled for Elena's attention, the cops allowed her to come closer to the booth by Captain Hudson's side.
Reader: Elena, I... I lied to you! About everything. I did had affairs with another girl before you, and I cheated in you with the neighbour's wife after our fight. I lie to you about being someone I am not.
Elena: What?... Reader how could you?
Reader: I wanted to impress you, to be someone worthy of being with you.
Elena: You didn't had to lie about something like that, and the thing with the neighbour's wife, I knew it already...
Reader: What?
Elena: I saw you two, but I also saw how upset you were and how much effort you put to erase that memory...
Reader: Why didn't you said anything?
Elena: Because, I liked the attention...
Pamela: Haha! How fitting...
Reader: That's it, I had enough.
I hung up the phone and raised my hands turning myself in, I heard the phone ring again but I exited the phone booth.
Hudson: He's stepping out!
I saw the red laser go by Elena's head and my heart froze up.
Reader: Elena, get down!
Captain Hudson stood still for a moment looking at me and Elena, he saw something...
Hudson: Everyone get down! There's a sharpshooter in the area!
Reader: I need to pick up the phone...
Hudson: The Phone? Go ahead.
Now someone knows what's happening, maybe there's hope, I picked up the phone again.
Pamela: Aham, very good move Reader...
Reader: What do you want now?
Pamela: I want you to break up with Elena now, In front of everyone.
Reader: Elena is... I don't think that matters to you.
Pamela: Quick learner...
Reader: Elena, I'm sorry! But I'm breaking up with you!
Elena: What?! Reader why?!
Reader: I'm sorry...
I saw Elena picking up her phone and looking around, she seemed worried and ran away somewhere...
Pamela: Hearing you say those words melts my heart with joy...
Captain Hudson walked back for me again, he seemed confident while walking close to the booth.
Hudson: Reader, your call is lasting a lot... we are gonna help you, but you have to trust us, it's okay and safe to step out of the booth.
Captain, has found where Pamela is, he wouldn't hint for me to come out knowing about the sniper.
Pamela: For your last test, tell me that once this is over we'll get back together this time definitely and until we die.
Reader: I promise you Pamela, that when this is over we'll get back together...
Pamela: Good, Now you stand still while I kill the captain.
Reader: WHAT? NO!
I dropped the phone and rushed out the booth to end this.
Reader: SHOOT ME INSTEAD YOU BITCH!
I felt the pressure on my stomach knocking me back onto the ground. A singular sharp pain like the prick of a needle, I hit my head into the sidewalk and that gave me a concussion, I saw Captain Hudson rushing over to my aid while I passed out on the floor...
Several Hours Later...
I woke up on a hospital bed, I looked around the room and saw Captain Hudson on the corner.
Hudson: You've only been shot with a rubber bullet is gonna leave a haematoma but, you're gonna be fine, we found your shooter.
He handed me a paper with a black and white photo of a girl laying down on a puddle of blood with the sniper set on the window.
Hudson: I'm here to say you were smart, a lot of people could've been hurt because of that.
Reader: A man was killed because of me.
Hudson: No, both of you were victims of this woman, your girlfriend said she'll come by later to visit you. And I need to hear a bunch of witnesses, and after you leave the hospital, I want your testimonial.
Reader: Sure...
He left the room and I looked at the photo again, all of that just for her kill herself in the end. Someone knocked on the door.
Reader: Come in...
The person that walked in was a woman with red hair, she was carrying a large briefcase and was wearing a military cap, she walked beside my bed and pulled a chair to sit down next to me.
Pamela: I'm so glad that you're ok.
She hugged me and I recognized the voice from the phone, If she's here, who's the girl on the photo?
Pamela: Oh you have a photo? Let's see... Poor Elena, girl got killed for a crime she didn't committed.
Reader: Elena...
Pamela: Remember what you said on the phone right? When this is over you'd take me back for the rest of your life... and I'm forcing you to keep that promise....
I began sobbing on Pamela's arms.
Pamela: Aww don't cry, your true love is here and it will stay that way, forever...
