co-captain

Allison had spent the night tossing and turning, unable to settle. Even after asking Kinsey to share the bed with her hoping that her presence would ease her, she couldn't sleep. Ironic since it was the one night Kinsey had managed to sleep, the comfort that Allison had hoped Kinsey would provide her she had actually provided to the other brunette. It took three hours of that same tossing and turning before she felt as though it was beginning to work, but that had been when she jumped up with the sudden thought as she placed her hand on her chest. Noticing the absence of her beloved family pendant. She didn't think to look at the time or even consider what she was doing before she shook Kinsey to wake her up, not even allowing time for her to open her eyes before jumping out of bed to search for the pendant on her desk. Rather than ask why she'd been woken up Kinsey simply sat up and looked at Allison's clock to see that it was 2:30 a.m. Not the time she'd hoped to be woken up. From the clock, her eyes traveled to Allison who was frantically looking under or inside every object on her unorganized desk before it had clicked what the other brunette might actually be looking for- the necklace Scott had stolen.

"Allison, what are you doing? It's two-thirty in the morning." She asked hoarsely.

"My pendant. I can't find it. Have you seen it?"

"Can this not wait until the morning when I'm in a better state to look."

"No." Allison deadpanned. "I can't go to sleep until I find it."

Kinsey groaned as she lay back down knowing that there wasn't a place in this entire house that Allison would find the necklace considering it was still in Scott's possession which meant she wouldn't be going back to sleep on the one night she had found it easy to. Instead, she'd be forced to search every crevice of this bedroom, her own bedroom, and the rest of the house before Allison had come to the terms that she had "lost" the gift Kate had given them. But she knew that if she didn't show even the slightest amount of concern it could throw Allison off so like her cousin Kinsey had to seem just as concerned for its whereabouts as she was.

"Could you have left it in the car?" Kinsey asked, hoping that she wouldn't suggest to come and look with her because she wouldn't want to walk through the big dark house alone.

"No, can you come with me?"

But she should have known better than to suggest that and think Allison wouldn't ask for her assistance. With a groan Kinsey climbed out of bed, grabbing one of her cousin's hoodies that had been thrown over her desk chair before following her towards the garage. Unlike how Allison hadn't cared about being quiet when searching the bedroom she'd chosen a more quiet approach as they tip-toed through the house careful not to wake the three adults that lived with them. If Victoria knew they'd woken up at this time just for a necklace neither would ever hear the end of her lecture, those piercing blue eyes would stare into their souls for eternity. The two got in either side of the car searching their half for the pendant, obviously, Allison's search had been a lot more vigorous than the girl who knew she was looking for nothing. Both of them froze at the sound of the garage door opening behind them, giving each other an uneasy look as they quickly and quietly shut their car doors and sunk down in their seats just in time for Chris and Kate to walk into the garage with those black duffel bags once again. Allison looked at Kinsey as she placed a finger over her mouth warning the girl to be quiet as they eavesdropped.

"It hasn't been an issue since we lived here," Chris said as he followed behind his sister.

"All I'm saying is that firing those things so close by is bound to draw attention."

"These things have saved my life more than once." He retorted as he held up something spiral, even Kinsey hadn't recognized what it was as she narrowed her eyes at it. Of course, with what Chris had said while holding it she assumed it was something to be used against werewolves. But tonight wasn't a full moon so she couldn't understand why they were out looking for one. "And I know how to be inconspicuous when I need to," Chris added as he threw it in the trash.

"This coming from the man whose preferred weapon is a crossbow." Kate laughed. Kinsey thought back to the night she'd been the getaway driver when a series of arrows had been shot at the car when Derek was getting in. She'd known it was a hunter but she hadn't thought it was her uncle Chris. Both of them had been out that night chasing her and they might not even know it, she suspected they didn't considering neither had confronted her. And clearly, they weren't afraid of a little confrontation even when it came to Kinsey. "You know, these extra skills are something we could be teaching our daughters." The woman continued as her words stirred up a churning feeling in her daughter's stomach, which worsened when Allison looked at her again.

"Not yet." Chris objected before he started to walk out of the bedroom.

"Ever?"

"Not yet." He repeated again. Kinsey and Allison raised their heads again to see what Kate was doing though they had to quickly duck again when she turned to look at the car, as though she could feel their stares on her back. And maybe she did. "You coming?" Chris asked.

Kate placed something on the workshop before turning to her brother. "Yeah. Coming."

The door to the garage had barely closed when the two teenagers jumped out of the car to investigate what Kate had left on the workshop, both with growing curiosity inside of them along with fear. Fear for the future. It was clear from Kate's words that she wanted to begin their training as hunters sooner than Chris wanted to and those clues she continued to leave were only drawing closer to the truth. A truth she'd known for longer than she wanted to admit. She felt a slight relief knowing that this was one of the subjects regarding werewolves and hunters that she didn't know much about, so when Allison asked her anything she wouldn't be lying when she said she wasn't sure. Her knowledge of the hunters was limited. And frankly, she would have liked to keep it that way for as long as possible. Both girls narrowed their eyes as Allison picked up the small spiral arrowhead from the bench while Kinsey pulled out the one Chris had thrown in the trash, both the same, but Kate's in a better, unused condition. Kinsey was just as curious as to what it could do as Allison was and both were eager to find out, and much like her father Allison was skilled when it came to the crossbow.

"You know when the two of you said you needed to stop for an errand before we went shopping, a five-mile hike in the woods was not what I expected," Lydia complained as she and Kinsey followed behind Allison who stormed ahead. Shopping with the redhead should already have been declared as an Olympic sport but Kinsey didn't expect that shooting arrows with her cousin would be the same. When Allison suggested the idea last night she was all for finding out what the arrow entailed but she too didn't expect the five-mile hike, with all of the practice for the track team the last thing she needed was more exercise. But she had a feeling Allison's fast-paced walking was less about her eagerness to find out what was going on with the arrow and more so to do with the not-so-secret secret Kinsey blurted out last night about Scott kissing Lydia. The other part, the part where Scott had tried kissing her too, had managed to stay quiet.

"Before I forget, I wanted to ask if you're okay with something," Allison said as she changed the topic of conversation. Not even breathless as she left her cousin and best friend to eat her dust, Kinsey considered forcing Allison onto the track team while she was here. "Jackson asked me to the winter formal." She deadpanned leaving both Kinsey and Lydia stunned, more so Lydia. Kinsey knew that Jackson was conniving but to invite his ex-girlfriend's best friend to the dance seemed wicked even for him. Not to mention that Allison was the ex-girlfriend of his co-captain, and even if that did seem like perfect revenge she didn't think Jackson had the balls. It was the perfect revenge for Allison too, a way to get back at Lydia for kissing her ex-boyfriend, this had been the high school bitchiness that Kinsey had been missing from school.

"Did he?" Lydia asked in a high-pitched tone. More so worried about who she would claim as her own date over the fact Allison was actually considering Jackson's offer to the formal.

"Yeah. Just as friends. But I just wanted to make sure you're okay with it first."

"Sure." The redhead reluctantly accepted. "As long as it's just friends."

"Well, yeah, I mean, it's not like I would take him into the coach's office during lacrosse practice to make out with him or anything." Allison sharply retorted. Her tone was clearly vengeful. Lydia's face dropped as she struggled to find words that would make what she did acceptably, she knew there was nothing that could dig her out of the hole she had dug for herself.

Allison continued to walk ahead with a smile across her face knowing that she had hit a sore spot within Lydia. That was when Kinsey knew it was time to step in, any other time she loved to be a witness to the high school drama where one girl stole her best friend's boyfriend but when it was happening with her own cousin and best friend it lacked its entertainment. If they carried on she'd be splitting up in the cafeteria as if this was a remake of Mean Girls. Kinsey jogged just enough so she could get closer to Allison, grabbing the sleeve of the girl's jacket so she could pull her back while Lydia took the hint to pick up her own pace before Kinsey would do the same to her. In the middle of the woods wasn't exactly the typical location for two girls to sort out their differences but at least if any of them screamed they wouldn't be heard for miles.

"Okay. Both of you need to stop." Kinsey began her lecture as she looked between them. "The two of you need to fix this and we're doing it now. I refuse to be in the middle of some strange group of girls that pass around their boyfriends and stab each other in the back for fun. Both of you are better than that ugly cliché. So we're not leaving here until this is fixed." She ranted as both Lydia and Allison looked guiltily at the ground. "Now would both of you like to see my whole perspective on this thing?" She asked, knowing she'd give it to them even after a no.

"Fine."

"I don't think we have a choice." Lydia and Allison retorted.

Kinsey took a deep breath as she prepared to provide her second rant. "Right. Lydia, you've been a shitty friend. Making out with Scott was wrong, especially when you kept telling Allison that she made the right decision by breaking up with him. And may I add, you were still dating Jackson at this point in time." She said as she faced the redhead who looked guiltier than ever while Allison had a smug smile growing across her face. "And you. You've been just as shitty for even considering going to the formal with Jackson when they've just broken up. You're both as bad as each other. And so am I. I'm not going to pretend I'm not a shit friend to the two of you as well. I know I haven't been around a lot lately."

"That's an understatement," Lydia muttered under her breath.

"And I'm sorry for that. From now on I'm going to be around more and the two of you are going to stop this whole weird thing that you have going on with Scott and Jackson. We're going to be normal best friends. At least what can qualify for normal in this town. Because I refuse to lose either of you over some jock." Kinsey sighed loudly. "And don't tell Scott I called him a jock."

"Deal." Allison and Lydia nodded in agreement with a smile.

"Now let's get this over with."

Things between the three of them weren't going to go back to how they originally were straight away, it would take time to feel as though the three of them were back to themselves again. Or at least as close to being themselves after the trauma they'd experienced over the past few weeks. A lot had happened in all of their lives, things that would affect their outlook on the rest of their lives, after all, they had almost been murdered in their own high school. And a video store. Pretty much everywhere the three of them went a chance of being murdered was very high thanks to Peter who had an unknown agenda against nearly everyone that lived in this town but along with the three boys, they seemed to be his main priority to torment.

When Allison found a suitable place she kneeled to the ground placing her bow and arrow beside her while Kinsey and Lydia stood behind her waiting anxiously with folded arms that kept them warm against the cold February afternoon. Allison pulled out the small spiral arrowhead again, her eyes examining it like they had early hours this morning before she placed it at the end of the crossbow. It wasn't until she saw Allison hold up the weapon that she noticed a detail she should have noticed a long time ago. It was no coincidence that Allison used a crossbow, that she was so skilled with the weapon like Chris was claimed to be, that was the weapon that she would be intended to use when she became a hunter. And Kinsey had one too. When she lived with her mother she was placed in self-defense classes, taught how to fight physically until she was old enough to be taught with a weapon of her own- Chinese ring daggers. She'd always thought it was a peculiar hobby for her mom to suggest but she'd learned it anyway. That was the weapon that they'd intended her to use when she would become a hunter with Allison.

"What does that do?" Lydia asked, just as curious as they were.

"We're about to find out," Allison mumbled as she stood up, taking her stance. Though her stance emitted confidence Kinsey lacked any of it after her revelation. Allison not knowing what the thing in her hand was about to do didn't exactly scream comfort, not when it was to be used against werewolves. Not when this image of Allison shooting an arrow would be less of a hobby done in the middle of the woods but the very image that Chris and Kate wanted to see. Allison shot the arrow, all of them intrigued as it flew effortlessly through the air until it hit the bark of a tree in the far distance. Its collision with the tree emitting a large bang and spark caused all three girls to jolt nervously until they had time to process what just happened. Allison lowered her bow while her eyebrow raised with curiosity, Lydia stood as nervous as ever while desperate to get out of the woods and Kinsey was sure that her heart stopped for Scott.

"What the hell was that?" Kinsey said aloud, it was supposed to stay in her head.

Allison shook her head. "I don't know."

"Well, that was fun!" Lydia announced with a clap of her hands. "Any more lethal weapons you two plan on trying out or can we go shopping now?" Before Allison could answer her question the three were frozen still by the sound of crackling, on first instinct, the three all looked towards where Allison had shot the arrow but after the sound repeated again it was clear that the noise wasn't coming from an arrow. It was much more similar to the sound of twigs snapping in the near distance to them. Not such a comforting sound to three teenagers alone in the woods.

Each of them took their turn to look around them, prepared to see a glimpse of a silhouette lingering in the distance through the light fog that surrounded them. But there was nothing.

"Hold this," Allison instructed as she placed the arrow in her cousin's hands.

"You really trust me with this?" Kinsey laughed as she looked down at it, she wouldn't even trust herself with a crossbow never mind someone else trusting her with one. "Wait, why are you giving me this?" She asked, less concerned about the crossbow in her hand now.

"Because I thought I heard something."

"Yeah, so did I. And I'm choosing to ignore it, I highly suggest you do the same."

Lydia nodded as she stood beside Kinsey. "I'm with her on this one."

"I want to find out what that something is." Allison deadpanned. They had to give props to Allison and her confidence, because they certainly lacked it, though her confidence could easily be mistaken for absolute stupidity. But it wasn't as though Kinsey could say that the noise could have come from an Alpha on the loose and ready to kill them at any given moment. "Don't worry. It's probably nothing." Allison reassured the girls as she began walking away from them.

"Well, what if that nothing is something and that something is something dangerous?" Lydia asked with her tone riddled with concern. Kinsey was still stood with a furrowed brow as she mouthed that tongue-twister of a sentence back to herself but she ultimately failed.

"Then Kinsey will shoot it." Allison deadpanned, pulling Kinsey out of her deep thoughts of questioning how Lydia had managed to say that sentence so flawlessly. Before she could even mutter a 'what?' the other brunette was already striding into the distance ready to find out where the suspicious noise had come from, leaving her and Lydia alone to fend for themselves.

--

Hours later Kinsey had been sat on Lydia's bed watching The Notebook when she received the text from Stiles. Since the redheads break up with Jackson most of Kinsey's time had been spent comforting the girl whether it was through watching all of the disgusting, cringy films about love and happiness or being the shoulder she needed to cry on. Even if Lydia did keep telling her that she was fine and had come to terms with the break-up, hat it didn't even hurt. Clearly, she was a terrible liar. That was based on how much time Lydia had actually spent crying on her shoulder until she had fallen asleep- exactly like she had tonight. One thing that Kinsey was grateful for as she comforted her best friend was that she'd never been through the heartbreak of this form, she hoped she never would. That all of her years of waiting for the right person wouldn't be in vain by getting her heartbroken by the person she was suppose to trust the most in the world. And yet when Stiles had texted her she knew that at this moment where Lydia was softly asleep after spending hours weeping over Jackson asking Allison to the formal she would have to sneak out of the house once again. Betraying the promise she had made earlier to be there more.

But Stiles needed her too. He had stated that in his awfully vague message.

Kinsey slowly climbed out of the bed, careful not to wake the now peaceful Lydia as she gently walked towards the door. Lydia herself not moving an inch, completely unbeknownst to the fact her best friend was leaving her yet again. And she wouldn't even know. Because by the time she woke up it would be dark and she'd be left with the assumption that Kinsey had gone home. By the time Kinsey had gotten out of the Martin house Stiles's Jeep was parked up across the street ready and waiting for her like he had been for the past ten minutes while she tried to stop talking to Mrs. Martin who continued asking her thoughts on therapy. Leaving Lydia's house never came easy when running into her mother, she was a lot like Victoria in some ways, only kinder and less scary. Like Victoria she was someone who cared deeply for their daughter.

"Hey, what's the emergency? Is it about Peter?" Kinsey asked within seconds of climbing into the passenger side of the Jeep. But by the boy's glum face, hunched over posture, and lack of music in the car she could tell this wasn't quite a werewolf emergency. It was one she felt as though she was much more familiar with, almost an expert in. Family. "How about I drive tonight? I know a good place where we can go." Kinsey suggested as she looked at the boy who could barely do the same back as he nodded in agreement. That was just another sign that the boy wasn't himself, until now the thought of her driving his beloved Roscoe sickened him. Until now she wasn't even allowed to touch the steering wheel of his beloved Roscoe.

After a pit-stop at the nearest burger joint, the two of them found themselves at the preserve where it had all began, also the place Kinsey regularly found herself coming to when she needed some time alone to think. Which was a lot lately. She and Allison had found this place within days of moving to Beacon Hills when the two of them had been on a late-night drive and had taken the wrong turn. The best wrong turn they could have ever taken. Right on the edge of the preserve sat a cliff looking over the entire town, a glorious sight at night and the perfect place to take a breather when everywhere else in this town provided nothing but stress.

"I just wanted some answers." Stiles began with a large sigh. "He was sat at the table looking at the Hale fire case, and he asked for a shot of whiskey. So I poured him a whole glass. I regretted it as soon as I did it but I couldn't help myself. I haven't seen him that drunk since... you know."

"You don't have to talk about her Stiles," Kinsey reassured him.

"No, I do." He insisted with a lump forming in his throat and his eyes swelling with tears. "At first it was working and he was talking about the case. How everything all linked together. That all the people who Peter killed were involved in the fire somehow. And then he started talking about how he missed talking to me. I mean, none of us have really been that present lately."

"Yeah, so I've heard." She mumbled under her breath with a stinging feeling of guilt.

"And then he said it. He told me that he missed her. We never talk about her, Kins. Never. And if I'd never have gotten him drunk he wouldn't have thought about her. Or what happened." His voice cracked and a tear escaped, much like it did on Kinsey who'd never even met the woman, nor did she know what had happened to her. But after being so used to Stiles being such a bright spirit and if not smiling then always making a sarcastic remark it was strange to see him in any other way, so vulnerable. All she knew was that woman she'd seen the pictures of around his house who she now knew to be his mother looked like a great mother to him, that was an area she was so fluent in. Meaning she wasn't sure what she could say to help.

"You can't blame yourself, Stiles. I'm sure he thinks about her all the time."

"What if he starts drinking again because of me? He tried so hard to stop, and he had. Now, what if I screwed that all up just because I was meddling again? Because I was selfish."

"Look, if he stopped before I'm sure that was for a reason. And I have a hunch that you were the reason. Stiles, your dad is a great man and not a lot of people can say that about their dads or either of their parents for that matter. So as stupid and cliche as this sounds, everything will be fine. You'll be fine. Your dad will be fine. We all will." Kinsey said, a slight smile coming across Stiles's face, comforted by the girl's words. "Now have a curly fry. It'll make you feel better."

For a while longer the two sat looking out over the preserve comforting one another in the best way they knew possible- humor. Whether it was attempting to throw french fries in one another mouths or sharing funny stories they had from their childhoods, or even in recent months when there had been time for humor. Most of their stories involving harassing Harris during chemistry class and detention, that was humor that would never die. And their conversation turned to its inevitable ending when formal was mentioned by Kinsey as she joked about going alone for another year running even now she was in a different town. With two people as competitive as them, friendly competitions were bound to turn into something more competitive, a bet that would challenge them both a little more. There was nothing wrong with a little challenge.

"You can't go alone. This is sophomore year."

"You're going alone." Kinsey pointed out as she took another bite of her food.

"But I'm a guy. It's different. We don't care about these things."

"That's so sexist, Stilinski. Not every girl cares about dresses, dances, and guys. I'd much rather sit at home with a pizza while watching a horror movie but unfortunately being best friends with Lydia Martin doesn't give me that pleasure. She's making me go."

Stiles paused for a moment as he considered what he was about to say. "How about a deal?"

"A deal?" Kinsey asked with growing interest.

"Yeah, a deal. You have to ask the first person you see at school tomorrow to the formal."

Kinsey scoffed. "Easy. And you have to ask Lydia." The girl proposed before pausing for a second knowing that her part of the deal was also too easy. So while she still had the chance she was going to up the bet. Make it a little more interesting. "And she has to say yes. If not... You can't watch Star Wars for a year. And I get to drive the Jeep. Whenever I want."

"My Jeep and Star Wars?" Stiles gasped. "Oh, you're cruel. Fine, if you don't-"

Before Stiles could create a condition for the brunette his phone began to ring with Scott's name lighting up the darkness that they'd been sat in. Kinsey watched as a smirk grew across his face, clearly, whatever Scott had called for sparked up interest within the boy as he eagerly agreed. Or more so agreed for the both of them as he eagerly repeated "we'll do it." meaning whatever he had just roped her into better be good and it better be worth it if it meant interrupting her alone time with a cheeseburger, curly fries and an amazing view of a less than amazing town. Kinsey didn't get the chance to ask what Stiles had gotten them into the boy was giving her hand to help her up off the ground and practically shoving her into the Jeep as well as shoving what was left of her fries and cheeseburger into her arms, with that she couldn't complain. While Stiles ran through everything that Scott had just told him Kinsey sat with growing excitement as she crammed down her fries, after finding out Melissa was on a date with Peter and Scott wanted them to crash the date she could see why Stiles didn't hesitate to accept the offer. What could be better than annoying Peter and protecting a woman who was like a mother to her all at once?

The two began searching around the town for the two on the date, passing every restaurant they knew in town while keeping in touch with Scott who was also out searching for his mother, though he had the upper hand with his keen sense of smell. Kinsey's eyes analyzed every car they passed looking for the grey Ford that Scott had described over the phone and just as they were about to take a turn back for the restaurants Kinsey harshly grabbed a hold of Stiles's arm.

"There. That's them!" Kinsey frantically yelled as the boy slammed his foot down on the brakes. She took a moment to think about their next move before she shouted "Hit their car!"

"Hit them? I'm not hitting them! Melissa will kill me!"

"Stiles just hit the car! If she doesn't kill us then Peter will kill her!" Kinsey shouted at the boy causing him to release a low groan as he began slowly pressing down on the accelerator ready to hit the car parked up on the side of the road. Stiles tightly gripped onto his wheel while Kinsey braced herself for impact by holding onto the door and placing her hand on the dashboard in front of her. Melissa really was going to want to kill them for interrupting the first date she had had in years, a date she deserved. Just not with an Alpha werewolf who wanted her son.

"I'm sorry Roscoe," Stiles muttered before the bumper of his beloved Jeep hit the car.

The boy let out a small whimper as he realized what he had just done. After years of protecting his Jeep from everyone else, he had been the one to cause its damage, damage that he'd have to pay for if he lived past tonight. Within seconds of the Jeep hitting the car ahead, Melissa had climbed out as furious as ever, fury that only grew stronger when she recognized the car that hit them. She should have guessed that the only person in Beacon Hills who would hit a parked car would be Stiles, Kinsey being in the passenger seat didn't come as much of a surprise either. Not only had the two teenagers crashing their date caused the Jeep to release an unhealthy amount of smoke but their flair for the dramatics hadn't gone unnoticed by every bypasser who stopped to help the two cars involved in the crash. Kinsey's simple plan to gate crash had turned into quite the town event, but maybe that would come in hand against a werewolf who couldn't expose himself in front of all of these people. Maybe this was a plan that worked out better than ever.

"Aww, are you kidding me? Stiles!" Melissa shouted as she slammed the car door behind her.

"Mrs. McCall?" Kinsey asked as she put on her facade, stepping out of the car and into the cold rain to talk to the woman who they'd just hit. Hopefully, for both of them, this was one of those times where Kinsey's charm on the older generation would work.

"Yes!" She groaned as she pressed down on her temples.

"Wow, this is... This is just crazy. What a coincidence, huh?" Stiles chuckled as the two of them walked to the front of the Jeep to analyze the damage that they'd done, and face whatever consequences Melissa had in store for them. "What a coincidence that your right here. I mean that's so crazy. Like, you're here right now. When we are. That's just..."

"Crazy?" Melissa asked.

"So crazy. I don't even know what happened. You guys just came out of nowhere." Kinsey laughed nervously as she nudged Stiles hoping he would figure out something better to say than describing how crazy this situation was repeated. The lying part neither had quite thought about when crashing into the car in front of them, it was an afterthought that was underestimated.

"Came out of nowhere? We parked on the side of the road, Kinsey."

"How crazy is that?" Stiles laughed once again. After tonight the girl would be declaring a year's ban on the word 'crazy' after how overused it had been tonight. Every sentence that came out of his mouth had used that word which was why Kinseynudged him in the side again as she continued to nervously smile at the furious woman who was about to be joined by Peter Hale himself. "We should probably call the cops, do like an accident report thing."

"I don't think that's necessary." Peter disagreed as he looked around them, or more so looked for the young wolf who had obviously set this whole thing up which was a lot harder considering the number of bystanders standing around watching the exchange despite the rain that poured down over their heads. The civilians of Beacon Hills had always been large gossips.

"Are you sure?"

"You know, I think I'm feeling a bit of whiplash." Kinsey groaned as she began rubbing her neck.

"Whiplash?" Melissa yelled with more annoyance than ever. "You two hit us!"

"I don't know there's definitely something wrong with my neck. Stiles, how's your neck feeling?"

Stiles began rubbing his own neck as he followed the girl's lead while Melissa rolled her eyes back far enough they were surprised they didn't get stuck in the back of her head. "There's definitely something wrong with mine too." He agreed while Melissa folded her arms ready to give the biggest lecture she had ever given to two children who weren't her own. By the end of her long seemingly endless lecture, the two teenagers were more scared of Melissa than they'd ever been before. Her yelling had incited fear in even those who were merely witnessing her argument against the two, never mind actually being the two on the receiving end of her words.

Melissa McCall was no force to be reckoned with. They knew that now for sure.

Kinsey's night with Stiles had been cut short when her mother had texted her with four dreaded words, anyone would dread those four words. It instilled fear in everyone, made hearts stop, hands clammy. We need to talk. No matter the situation those four words were never good to hear whether the person who sent it was a parent, significant other, friend, or even a stranger. Despite her concerns for what her mother needed to say to her Kinsey rushed home anxious to find out, Kate loved being dramatic about things, she wouldn't ever relieve her child's nerves by giving a little more insight to the conversation. Instead, Kinsey was left to conjure up a range of reasons her mother would need to talk to her until she and Stiles had pulled up outside to see Allison was just getting home too. Usually, they would have seen it as a coincidence, but she too seemed to be rushing to get in the house. With a quick goodbye, Kinsey jumped out of the car and called for Allison to wait for her. And her first suspicion had been confirmed- Kate had texted her the same thing. Her next suspicion being was this the night where it happened. As soon as they walked into the house they were met with the sight of Kate sat on the stairs with her jacket on ready to leave as soon as they'd gotten home. Both girls spent the entire car ride asking her questions about where they were going, what had been so urgent, but Kate had been just as vague as her text had been. She refused to tell them anything other than that they'd know soon.

As she followed her mother through some dark tunnels with Allison following closely behind her Kinsey's heart sunk to her stomach, sometimes people said that what people don't know can't hurt them but this didn't feel like one of those times. Down in dark tunnels didn't seem like a place to train two hunters but it didn't seem like the place for many activities other than murder.

"What is this place?" Allison asked once again as she looked around.

"Let's start with the basics." Kate began as she stopped at a large door. "You know how every family has its secrets? Ours are a little different." She smirked as she began to open the door. Both girls looked into the dark room unable to make out anything as they hesitated to step in while Kate walked ahead to stand at the only light source, the smirk across her face only growing as Kinsey and Allison stepped closer to her grand reveal. Kinsey knew at this point that it had been the moment she was dreading. The moment where Allison would be opened up to a world she wasn't ready for, she still wasn't ready for it and she'd been in it for weeks. Whatever it was her mother was about to show them would be the beginning of the end, nothing would be the same. There would be no going back and her mother didn't even seem to show remorse. Allison looked at Kinsey desperately, hoping she'd reach out and provide her with some comfort but Kinsey couldn't look back at her. Not when she felt as much guilt as she did. There was only so much time before Allison realized about Scott. When she found out Kinsey had lied to her.

When Kate flicked on the large light a half-transitioned Derek was revealed to the two girls as he stood restricted to metal bars unable to move anything but his mouth which he didn't hesitate to do as he growled at the two of them revealing his sharp canines. Even Kinsey had taken a step back out of fear as she struggled to breathe properly, there really was no going back.

"Isn't he beautiful?"

After being unable to take any more Allison had rushed out of the tunnels before Kate and Kinsey could even react. Kinsey looked back at Derek one more time, for once she felt sorry for the wolf knowing that this was exactly what he had meant at the animal clinic when he said that her family couldn't be trusted. This was why. They were the monsters, not the werewolves. Kinsey shook her head at her mother before she began running after Allison, only to be pulled back.

"Kinsey, wait," Kate ordered as she grabbed a hold of the girl's arm.

"What?" Kinsey snarled as she turned to look at her.

"Where are you going? Don't you want to have a little fun?"

"No, mom. I'm going home." She spat out. "I don't know what all of this is or what you're trying to do here but I don't want any part of it. You know, I don't know why I'm surprised you were hiding some big secret. All you've ever done is lie to me. All you'll ever do is lie."
