I woke up at around 9am to the sun shining brightly on my face through the open window blinds. I blinked a couple times until my vision was clear. I took a deep breath in and stayed in bed until I got the courage to finally get up. I went into the bathroom that was connected to my room and started the shower. While I waited for the water to get warm I brushed my knotted hair.
Once the water was warm, I stripped and got in. The hot water hit my skin as the bathroom started to fill with steam. I sat enjoying the water for a bit then started washing my hair. Once I was done I got out and finished my morning routine.
I searched through my still full moving boxes for a pair of clothes. I put on a white tank-crop top, big mom jeans, a brown zip up jacket and I put my shoes to the side for when I go out. I started unpacking, starting with my clothes box.
Once my room was finished, which didn't take long, I decided to explore the new town. I grabbed my skateboard from off my floor, put on my shoes (travis scott air jordan 1 or just air forces). I yelled to my mom that I was going out, then left. As I was riding down the street, I noticed a skatepark. Luckily it was right near my house. I decided to go into it.
As soon as I entered the gates, all eyes were on me. Ugh. They're probably a bunch of sexiest little boys, wondering why a girl is skateboarding. Whatever. I continued riding until I got to ramp. I rode down it and did a few tricks as I hit the top of each ramp.
I stopped after a minute and got back on the flat floor. I started riding around the skatepark when I noticed my brother and his new group of friends. But this time, there was someone else. He was really cute. Around my age maybe. He seemed like it at least. I headed towards them on my board. When I got there I greeted my brother.
"Hey Noah."
"Oh hey Nova." he said after he locked eyes with me for a split second, noticing my presence. "When did you get here?"
"Not long ago. Only been a few minutes."
"Oh okay. Anyways, this is their other friend, Rico." He said while pointing to the kid that was around my age.
I flashed him a smile and he did a little wave at me. it was silent for a moment until, the kid now known as Rico, asked, "Hey Evon can you video me really quick."
"Ya sure." Then they want off their to video.
"Hey do you know how old he is...by any chance?" I asked my brother
"Oh he's 14." AK butted in. I slightly froze when he said that, then regained my composure.
"Oh okay cool thanks. Anyways I was just checking out the town so I'll be going now. If you need me, text me." I said to Noah.
"Okay see ya. Be safe please."
"I will." I said in a slightly annoyed tone. And with that, I rode towards the exit. I continued riding down the street when I noticed a Dairy Queen. I decided to stop by and grab a Blizzard.
Once all payed and done I headed out. Thank God its summer. It would've sucked to have joined school in the middle of the year. When I got home I was greeted by my mom.
"Hey honey. Where were you?"
"Oh I just explored the town. I found a skatepark nearby. Noah's making friends already." I explained.
"Well good for him. What would you like for breakfast."
"PANCAKES." I shouted a little too loudly, making my mom jerk back a bit.
"Ok ok." She chucked. She started making the pancakes and I made my way to the couch. I went on my phone for a while when a video popped up on my feed that caught
me by surprise.
Rico.
He was on my fyp. Great. He's famous. He probably has tons of girls going for him. I scrolled past the video and continued on.
"Nova pancakes!" My mom shouted from the kitchen
"Coming!" I answered.
I grabbed some pancakes and continued on my phone while eating.
"You should go out and try to make some friends." My mom said, breaking the silence.
"I know I will. It's just harder considering it's summer. I can't make friends from school so it's harder to find people." I stated.
"Don't worry honey. You'll meet some people. Anyways, I need to finish unpacking the rest of the house. Would you like to help?"
"Sure." I said taking my last bite of pancakes.
Me and my mom were decorating for about 2 hours and we're almost finished. Our project got paused when there was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it." I say. I open the door and see a family, the mom with cookie in her hand. Must be neighbors.
"Hi i'm Michelle Duenas, this is my daughter Jayda and my son Rico." She said with a bright smile.
My mom, only a second later, came up behind me.
"Hi i'm Lisa McKay this is my daughter Nova. I also have a son named Noah who is God knows where." My mom said as they both laughed. I looked around at their family for a bit, to suddenly lock eyes with the boy. I quickly looked away and back to his mom.
"Oh how could I forget. I made this cookies for you and your family as a warm welcome to the neighborhood." She said, handing us the bag of freshly homemade chocolate chip cookies. My mom grabbed them and brought them to the kitchen as I stayed by the door.
"Would you like to come in?" I asked in a slightly cheerful tone. I didn't want to sound rude so I changed my voice as best as possible.
"Of course but I cant stay for long." Michelle answered with a smile. I moved out the way of the door and opened it slightly more, allowing them access to come in. Once they were all inside I shut and locked the door. They made their way to the couch while looking around.
"Wow it's decorated so beautifully. The last owners did not make it look this nice." Michelle said. They all sat On the couch as my mom headed over towards them. I sat on the love seat, being the anti social person I am. I really didn't want to talk to them but don't want to be rude. So I stayed. I could also use some friends.
I decided to try to make a conversation with Jayda.
"So. How long have you guys lived here for?" I asked Jayda.
"Oh well we've lived in SF our whole lives but moved into the house next door a little after Rico was born." She answered.
"Oh okay okay. Also how old are you?"
"I'm 16." Ha. Ironic.
"Oh funny that's my brothers age. I'm pretty sure i'm also the same age as Rico so. Kinda ironic." I chuckle. "Do you skate?"
"Hell no. I would break my neck if I tried to even step on one of those things."
I laughed and said, "Well my brother skates. Maybe he can teach you." I answer with a smirk.
She chuckled, "Maybe."
I was about to continue talking when her mom said, "Ok well, we better get going. If you need anything we'll be next door."
"Ok thank you for the cookies. I'll see you later ya?" My mom asked.
"Sure thing. Come on kids." Michelle said as she walked out the house with her kids. One they were out the door, my mom closed the door.
"She was nice. Hey that boy was pretty cute. He seemed around your age huh?" She said with a sly smile and a wink."
"Mooooom." I said, dragging out the 'o'.
She chuckled and I said, "I'll be upstairs if you need me."
"Okay. Don't be up there forever. I'm making dinner in about an hour and your dad will be here soon." She said as I walked up the stairs.
"Okay." I walked into my room and plopped onto my bed, phone in hand. I turned on my tv and started watching Stranger Things. I watched 2-3 episodes before my mom called me down for dinner.
"Coming!" I shout from my room. With that, I paused the show, got up and went down stairs. My dad was home and at the dinner table, meanwhile Noah was just walking through the door.
Me and my family sat down and ate while making small talk. I head back upstairs to see some missed calls on my phone.
