I stare at the e-mail.
West Coast Paradise.
I don't remember a place called West Coast Paradise. I am a successful businessman. I don't take vacations nor breaks.
Just naps.
Yeah naps. If I don't get my naps, then you'll get Grumpy CAT!
My curiosity got the best of me, and I opened the email. I read it rapidly like I'm running out of time. My eyebrows are raised. I just can't believe it.
"Oncie! I'm back, and I have such good news for you!" My mom bursts into my office like she usually does. I'm not in the mood of playing this game anymore.
"I don't want to hear it." I said as I turned my back towards as I stared at the window. I just realized that there are fewer trees now compared to last month.
"Oncie, but it's good news. I will help you maintain your status!" My mom raised her fake nice voice as she walked towards the other side of my desk. Gosh that desk is tacky. She hugged me, but I didn't hug her back. Something inside of me cracked, and it was not my spine. Something that meant to be cracked a long time ago.
I turned my chair once again in order to avoid her. My mom backed away and twitched her mouth like she always does when things do not get her way.
"I see you're a bit grumpy." She glanced at the overly unnecessary giant clock painted with useless luxurious metals. It marked noon. "It's almost lunchtime. Do you want to order McTruffle's or Little Barbaloot's Pizza or I-Hops or My..."
"I'm not hungry!" I cut her off.
"What's wrong Oncie?" She said in her motherly voice. How strange. In the past, she usually gets mad at me and slaps my head. Money sure does change people.
"I know what you've done." I turned my chair and face her.
"Done what Oncie?"
I got out of my chair and walked around the room. I just can't take this anymore.
"I just can't believe you would do something like this!"
"I... don't... understand." She hesitated as she covered her mouth with her palm.
"Stop acting so innocent!" I stopped and looked her in the eyes. "I know what you've done, and there is no turning back. I read that email!"
"What e-mail?" Her voice started to shiver.
I walked straight towards her as she shrunk herself in fear.
"West Coast Paradise. You bribed them in order to take Y/N away even though she never fit the requirements to go there." My shoulders are getting lighter and lighter. "And the worst part is that you lied to me! You convinced me to send her off!"
"But...I..."
I walked towards my desk and sat on that overly large chair. I'll probably give it away to Johnny Depp. He needs charity.
"I should have listened to her!"
"I did it for your own good Oncie." She said it with a plain look on her face. Her nice act is lost gone.
"I buy you everything you ever dream of! I always obeyed you, and this is how you treat me!" I lean on my desk. I am furious. All these years, I've been living under a leech. "I wonder what dad would think if he was alive?"
"Your dad is not dead."
"What? What do you mean he's not dead." I said. "Is this one of your other lies? You told me he died when I was 2 years-old."
"I lied."
Why that didn't surprise me.
"I didn't want to be humiliated in front of you guys that, well, I lied. I had to in order to keep my pride."
"So, you thought that the best solution was to lie to us???" I grab my head.
"Yes."
I stand up on my chair and still behind my desk. I just can't believe what is happening. It's kinda like I'm in a Taco Bell Telenovela!
"What other things have you lied to me about? I bet you are not a real blonde!"
"He wanted to take you with him."
"What?" My voice raised. "I could have lived a better life if I was with him!"
"I didn't let him take my baby away."
"And why not? Is there a reason that you want to keep a child that you don't want, because I bet it is not mother-instinct."
"I just wanted some child support."
I slap my forehead with my palm. This is getting ridiculous.
"So, you hate my father so much that you do not let me communicate with him. You have treated me differently compared to Chett and Brett as long as you keep receiving child support money. If that's the case, I would be better off if you abandoned me than to have you as my mother!"
"Listen, Onceler. You might not understand this now, but I'm doing all this for your own good. If it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have this colossal business!" She began to raise her voice.
My tranquil office has turned into a circus. It might as well have been. The office was getting stuffy too, so I decided to go out on the balcony for some fresh air. Isabella follows me outside.
"I got you everything you wanted, and this is how you treat me!"
"Yes, but you don't have to repeat the same line that you used at the beginning of the chapter."
"Oh sorry. I'm just so angry that I just can't remember my lines!"
"Oncie, we are doing all this in order to gain stuff that we never had back in the farm. Remember how we lived back then. It was terrible! I had to chase away some gender-confused wolf who always read Pork-Illustrated out of the barn every night!" She shrugged her nose in disgust.
She tried to hug me, but I resisted. I turned my body in order to face her from afar.
"I don't care about the money!" I screamed "At least not yet."
I look at the teddy bear from the carnival that sits on my desk from the balcony.
"All I cared about was to help the family and to fit in. That's all I ever wanted! I wanted your love and your support regardless if I failed or not. All I ever wanted is love like from the movies!" I said as tears were running on my cheeks. "Even with all this money and luxurious useless things, I still don't have your love, mom. And I never will as long as you keep wanting more and more."
"You do, Oncie."
I controlled my crying.
"That's not love."
"Well, love did not help you be successful! I did! If it wasn't for me, you'd be lying on the floor like an overly depressed college student questioning the morals of life!" She slaps me. "YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT ME."
She walks closer to me.
"And no one would ever love you, and you'll end up alone like your dad!"
"You are wrong."
"Oh really?"
"I have Y/N who accepted me for who I am even before all this mess." I walk inside my office and grab the bear from my desk. "Since the beginning, she is the answer to all my problems, even if she creates problems. We understand each other and have good communication. She is the ONE!"
Isabella walks closer to be like an abandoned wet animal seeking for shelter.
"I'm done with you guys." I said as I walked towards the door.
"Hope Chad and Brad treat you better than me." I look at my mom for the last time as I open the door.
She looks hopeless.
"I don't blame my dad for leaving you."
