"What in hell is happening?!" Isa exclaimed as she walked into Elijah's room to see Katherine and Nik standing off against each other, the latter with a bloody nose. "What did you do?" she asked worriedly as she set her mug down and wiped away the blood.

"I tried to enter Elijah's mind, help him fight the way out of the battle Esther has him waging against himself, but she's locked me out."

"We will get Elijah back, but not if you go hurting yourself like this," Isa said as she held his face, the thumb of her right hand brushing the spot between his lips and nose before they rested on his lips.

"Well, is this rash a side effect of the witchy acid trip he's on?" Katherine asked as she sat on the bed, pulling down the collar of Elijah's shirt to reveal the discoloured skin.

"I haven't seen this since I was a child," Nik whispered as he ran a finger over it, Isa peering around him to see.

"Is this the flower that Esther would use on Mikael?" she asked, and he nodded, explaining the story he'd already told Isa to Katherine.

"When Mikael would return home from battle, more blindly temperamental than usual and our mother would use the petals of a rare Marelok orchid to put him to sleep. She would mend his mind with a spell and then wake him with the roots of the same plant."

"If she has access to it now, maybe it grows in the bayou?" Isa offered as she picked up the wet cloth on Elijah's bedside table and pressed it to his forehead.

"You both stay here with the wolves and vampires and mind the fort. It should only be a quick trip," Nik said as he began to walk out before he thought better of it and turned back to the girls. "Steer clear of Esther. Do you hear me? The last thing I need is to embark on another rescue mission because one of you got yourselves captured going after her."

"Fine," Katherine said, irritated as she took the cloth Isa placed on Elijah's forehead and began to dab it all over his face.

"Isa. I mean it. Do not go after her, lest we spend another thousand years trying to break the curse she puts on you this time," Nik warned.

"Alright, Nik, I won't go after her. You have my word."

Satisfied but still hesitant, Nik left, and Katherine turned to her friend. "Please tell me you have some sort of nefarious plan, you always were better at them than me," the girl admitted, and Isa smiled cunningly as she brushed the hair from her brother's face.

"We won't go after Esther. We will do as she has done. And go after everything she loves. "

Isa and Katherine walked into Marcel's new compound, Aiden in tow. "Marcellus," Isa greeted her son who stood to hug his mother.

"Everything ok, Mom?" he asked as he glimpsed her entourage.

"Your father saw it fit to embark on a small quest to wake Elijah without me, and you know how I feel about being left behind."

Marcel gave his mother a knowing smile as he asked, "Who's getting killed today?"

"Seeing as I gave my word not to go after Esther directly, I've decided to go after something she loves, or claims to. Finn. And since he's been having a grand old time screwing with your vampires I would wonder if you want in on this little bloodbath?"

"You know me too well, Mom," Marcel smiled as he led the trio to sit down before taking a seat himself. "What are we up against?"

"It's not going to be easy. He's surrounded by a pack of juiced-up wolves. He doesn't have a weakness," Aiden began to explain before Marcel intervened.
