"Alright, we are headed out," Percy said, slinging his purse over his shoulder. "We will probably be back late tonight."

"As usual," Nico replied sarcastically.

"Hush."

Thalia walked over. She was all dressed up for the party in a black dress with a leather jacket. "You could always come with us."

Nico shook his head. "No. I don't do parties. Plus, I wasn't invited."

Percy bumped shoulders with Nico. "No one is invited. It's a house party. You just show up."

"Still not going."

Thalia rolled her eyes. "Fine. Come on Perc, we should get going."

After they left, Nico made hot chocolate and turned on the TV to his favourite show: Psych. He related way too much to Lassiter. He pulled his sketchbook out from under the couch cushion. His other one everyone knew about. "Oh look, Nico is drawing in his sketchbook again, ignoring the world."

No, this one was a secret. It held pictures and drawings of the most private parts of his life. The parts no one knew. Mostly Bianca. Some far off fantasies of him being happy with some adorable boy who would take care of him.

But to Nico? Those were fantasies would never come true. He wasn't like some lovesick puppy waiting for something good to happen. He confined those good thoughts to his mind and his sketchbook. Never even once did he let himself think it would become a reality. Because then, if would spend his life waiting for something that was bound no never happen. No point in chasing after something when it's completely out of reach. It's like trying to find the end of the rainbow. It's just an illusion. When you find the end of the rainbow, there's nothing there. The rainbow disappears when you get to the end. Finding the end of a rainbow with a pot of gold waiting for you is just as foolish for one amazing person to walk into your life being everything you hoped and dreamed. It's rubbish.

Nico's phone buzzed, it was his sister. His alive sister.

Hazel: How are you doing?

Nico didn't respond.

Hazel was in San Fransisco for college. She was supposed to take Nico with her but decided not to last minute. Nico didn't hold it against her. Or maybe he did. He tried not to, but it was so hard sometimes. Especially after the night with Bianca. Fuck damn, Nico had a shitty childhood.

He spent the rest of his night sipping his hot chocolate and working on his sketchbook, but he was careful to rehide it before Thalia and Percy got home.
