Chapter Five

This chapter is dedicated to @BadWitch128

Magnus's POV

I walk into the office of my glorious husband and find him peering over his desk, looking at all this different paperwork, oblivious to my presence. I quietly rearrange the papers with a quick twist of my fingers and walk behind Alec.

I press a quick kiss to his neck, wrapping my arms around his waist.
Alec makes a slight groan, blushing red from embarrassment.
I kiss my way up to his lips, tilting his head so we're facing each other.
He breaks away, smiling at me.
I sit on his lap.

"What's wrong, Alexander?" I ask. "You seem stressed."
He wraps his arms around me, leaning into my chest.
"It's the new girl, Raleigh. All of them said that she's from an Institute in North Carolina."
I nod.

Alec points to a list with all the Institutes on it.
"There aren't any Institutes in North Carolina! They're lying!"
He mumbles incoherent words as I twist his black hair in my fingers.
"It's okay, my love. We'll just interrogate everyone when they come back."

Alec nods, his eyes getting wide and sleepy.
I wave my hands, the blue sparks flickering as the room cleans itself.
"Let's go rest, honey. It's been a long day."

I slide off his lap, taking his hand and leading him back to our room.

Raleigh's POV

We reach my apartment.
I open the door with my key and watch as my parents are huddled on the couch.

"Raleigh?" my mom asks.
She stands, running up to hug me.
My dad follows, squishing me.
"I can't breathe," I tell them.
They release me.
"Where were you, young lady?" Dad asks.

Luke follows me inside.
"Hello Star, hello Eli," He says. "Might we explain this in the kitchen?"
Mom nods, seeing Adele and Rosalie standing in the hallway. They must not be wearing glamours.
The adults walk away.

I lead the girls into my room.
Adele does a full 360, looking around.
"That's a lot of books," she says, pointing at my shelves.
I nod.

I put my backpack on my bed as Adele finds my Shadowhunter's shelf.
She gives a gasp, pulling out City of Ashes.
"That's my mom!" Adele says, opening the book and peeking.
Rosalie pulls out my special edition of Queen of Air and Darkness.
She looks at the big, colourful image that has The Dark Artifices characters on it.

"Are those my parents?" She asks, pointing to each of them.
I nod.
"Your mom is also on the spine."
Rosalie flips the book over to the spine, giving a small squeal.
"My mom looks so badass."

"Can we take all of this Shadowhunters stuff back to the Institute?" Adele interrupts. "For research."
I look at the entire shelf. I had spent a lot of years with these books.
"Only if you promise that I will get everything back."
Adele nods.

I run off to get some cardboard boxes, while they continue to look around.

As I reach the storage closet, I overhear my parents talking to Luke.
"So she is staying with you, your granddaughter, and your granddaughters' best friend?" Dad asks.
"Yes," Luke replies. "For a special camp. It will help Raleigh with her senior year of high school."
"How are we sure that you're not lying to us?" Mom asks.
"By this."

I lean over the doorframe and see Luke handing them a piece of paper.
Dad gives a slight gasp.
He hands Luke a pendant. Maybe a necklace.
Luke smiles.

"I believe we have an agreement, Eli."
Dad nods.
"We'll make sure that nothing will come to harm her, while she is away Star," Luke says.
