"what was it all for?" adam asked casey, once they got back.

"just a test."

"for what?"

"nothing, really. just to show you guys something."

"show us what?"

"show y'all that things can either be forgotten, or you can make that thing better." casey told him.

"okay--?? but where was the key?"

she didn't respond.

"casey."

nothing.

"where was the key?" adam asked again.

"there was no key adam. not physically."

"what do you mean?"

"i mean, the key wasn't an actual key."

"so? what was it?"

"you and lawrence were keys." casey finally said.

"what?" adam said, "that makes no sense."

"ugh, i mean like-- did y'all find the "x.""

"yeah, you mean the ones on our chest?"

"yes! the one's painted where your heart's are." casey explained.

"okay, what does that have to do with it?" adam asked.

"everything. it has everything to do with it. those were the keys."

adam sat there quietly, giving casey a blank look.

"you get it?" casey asked him.

"no, i don't."

"your hearts! they were the key!"

"i'm not understanding." adam still said.

"okay," casey said, "nevermind then."

"our heart's don't have a physical key in them."

"duh, but that's not what i'm saying." casey told him.

"this makes no sense." adam continued to state.

"do you have common sense?"

"yeah, but you're making no sense. how would our hearts get us out of there?"

"no! oh my gosh, your hearts were the key, not the key to get out, but the key to the lesson that was learned." casey explained to him.

"what was the lesson?" adam asked blankly.

"well, you were supposed to figure it out, yet neither of you have yet."

"can you explain a little better?"

"okay," casey shifted, "your hearts, they both had x's on them? right? okay. no, it wasn't the key to your chain obviously. but it was the key to the whole reason you guys were there. you were both there to realize something, to forget, to believe in something new or different. and forget about what had previously happened."

"and?"

"andd, the x's on your hearts were a connection, a new meaning. the key to happiness one might say. the key of love."

"love?"

"yes, love."

"i don't get it."

"i'm saying you and lawrence love eachother." casey finally blurted.

"ew what? i do not. we do not." adam said.

"not like that. well i don't know.. listen. what i'm trying to say is. the x's on your hearts were to represent that you guys had a misleading past, but bringing you guys back there was a way to start fresh and see something new. see a different path. see that it wasn't so bad." casey continued to explain to him.

"ohh. okay i get it. but, it was kind of unnecessary." adam said.

"to you. but one day you'll get it." casey shrugged.

"hey guys." jasper walked in with a cup of coffee and said.

then she sat next to them both.

"what's up? how're y'all?"

"fine." casey replied boringly.

"where's lawrence?" adam asked.

"in his office." jasper replied.

"okay." adam said, standing up.

"he might be busy, i don't know." jasper told adam before he walked off.

but he continued to walk toward his office.

he opened the door slowly and stared at lawrence as he worked.

"hey." adam said, opening the door wider.

lawrence turned quickly, looking startled.

"oh, hey." he replied faintly.

adam sat down on the couch behind lawrence's desk quietly.

lawrence hadn't said a word to him for a while.

there was just a loud silence and the sound of lawrence typing.

"larry." adam finally spoke.

"hm?"

"i don't think i want to see you ever again." adam whispered loudly.

"you what?" lawrence spun his chair around to look at adam.

"nothing." adam mumbled.

"you don't want to me ever again?"

adam shook his head.

"oh, why?"

"because."

silence.

"because why?" lawrence finally asked.

"because i'm afraid."

"of?"

"you."

"me? why me?" lawrence asked.

"not necessarily you, just the idea of you." adam told him.

"what're you talking about?"

adam turned away.

but lawrence stood up and sat next to adam.

"tell me." lawrence told him.

adam didn't know why,

but oddly, he couldn't help himself.

but he didn't know if it were right.

but his gut told him yes,

so he did.

he had pulled lawrence close to him and kissed him instantly without thinking of what lawrence might've thought.

yet it hadn't last long.

since lawrence pulled away and looked at adam strangely.

then he had stood up and walked out of the room,

leaving adam there, alone.

he was embarrassed.

almost humiliated.

but mostly embarrassed.

and he felt ashamed.

adam sat there, by himself for a while.

until, casey had walked in, staring at him.

"are you okay?" casey had asked him.

but adam couldn't answer.

he knew if he did, he'd cry.

so he kept quiet.

but casey wasn't having it.

she instantly sat next to adam and hugged him, not knowing what was wrong, but knew something was wrong.

adam finally started crying.

casey didn't ask him why,

she just let him cry it out.
