Come Back Home...

Lena

As I rubbed my tired and sore eyes after sitting up in a cold bed, the sheets cold where Kara would usually reside, I grabbed one of her shirts, holding it close to me, inhaling her scent.

When I watched Kara's pod leave Earth's atmosphere, I felt a feeling inside me. I was losing the love of my life. Kara. The girl of steel that I knew would always come back to me.

It was a small fight that we had. I knew I fucked up by getting upset at the fact that she, in her blind bravery, almost got herself killed.

I just wanted her back. I wanted to hold her, I wanted to kiss her. I knew she'd be back as soon as the DEO and I filtered the Kryptonite out of the air. Once that happens, we can easily send a message to Kara to come home.

But for now, Kara's gone. She's gone back home. What was left of her home planet. She went back to her own mother. I just wanted my girlfriend back.

I wanted the woman I called 'home' back with me. I wanted to know she's okay and I wanted to know that she still loves me. Maybe she doesn't. I still haven't read the note she left for me, I don't know if I have the strength for that.

My fingers traced the ink-stained papers as I unfolded the neatly-folded sheet. Kara's handwriting was sprawled messily on the paper as it read, 'Lee, don't worry about me. Mon-El's mother released Kryptonite into the air. I have to leave Earth, but I don't know how long I'll be gone... but I love you' my breath hitched as I kept reading, 'I didn't mean to hurt you... I love you so much, Lena...  --Kara'

I knew I would get her back. I had to get her back. Who would I be without Kara? I don't know. I forgot what my life was like before I met Kara in my office. The flustered reporter alongside her cousin. The reporter who always adjusted her glasses nervously and clutched a notepad at her side, wore cardigans, and always seemed like she hid a part of herself. That part of herself? I discovered it in the past year.

That other side of her was complicated. Behind Kara 'Sunny' Danvers was a person I didn't recognize until now. A broken soul. She has been through so, so, much, more than I've been through, and she still manages to keep it together.

The other part of her she hides away is her alter ego, of course. Supergirl. The brave one who never stood down from a fight and always stood for what's right. Not once, ever, has Kara stood for something that is morally wrong or wrong in general. She's good. She's kind, and she's the best thing that ever happened to me.

But I knew that Kara wouldn't be gone for long if I had a say in this. I grabbed my car keys after getting dressed in one of Kara's t-shirts and a pair of black jeans and boots, rushing down the flights of stairs before entering my car, speeding off to the DEO in record time.

Walking into my lab, I saw Alex already there, analyzing a substance underneath a microscope before turning to look at me.

She smiled, "Lena. Perfect timing. I have a lead on what we should do, but I'm sure we all know that you're the only one with the intelligence to crack the code," I nodded, taking a closer look at what the woman was studying.

It was a sample of Kryptonite of which was condensed into the air. My brain started to whir, working faster as I thought. If I could design a prototype that will rid the air of any traces of Kryptonite, filtering it. It would take three days.

Moving to some spare parts, I assembled the prototype, praying to whatever god that this will work. I started up the device, looking into Alex's eyes, filled with hope.

I woke up in a panic. I was still in my pod. I should have arrived by now... oh no. Not again, please, Rao, not again.

I saw the entrance to the Phantom Zone. I knew there was no saving me now. I quickly sent out a distress signal to Alex and J'onn, typing in two words. Phantom and Zone. My pod entered the Phantom Zone and I fell into a slumber.

As the distress signal reached the DEO, I cursed under my breath. I didn't plan for this to happen. I didn't plan this, whatsoever. Kara's done this before. She'll get through this, she'll pull through. She's strong, so, so strong... my little sister will make it through.

Today marks Day One of Operation Extract Green K.  The assembled team? Lena Luthor, Winn Schott, Maggie Sawyer, J'onn J'onzz, and myself. We were all willing to trade our life for Kara's in a heartbeat.

I just want my little sister back. And I would do whatever it takes to do so. Even if it meant giving up my life, I don't care. Kara and Lena are happy. They're literal soulmates. Soulmates!

All I knew is that we would get Kara back. And soon.
