Lexas POV

The girl - Clarke - shook my hand gently. We smiled at each other again before Mr Kane called the class to order. I turned to face the front. Thank goodness for that, if the class hadn't started I probably would have said something stupid.

I knew that my face was some shade of red, but I didn't know how bad it was. A deep blue, almost like the sea. Those were the colour of Clarkes eyes. They had mesmerised me, enough that I would have probably spoken my mind and told her she was beautiful.

But she was. Her light blonde hair, falling in waves around her shoulders and framing her heart shaped face. If I had told her what I wanted too, I would have embarrassed myself in front of the entire class.

Or maybe not. Everyone knew I was gay, so it didn't really make a difference. But Clarke didn't, so it would probably confuse her.

I tried to focus my attention on the teacher, but I couldn't help glancing over at Clarke. She was looking at me too, but when I looked at her, she flushed and turned away. I continued looking at her, and was caught out when the teacher called my name.

"Lexa?" I blinked and focused on the teacher. He was pointing to an equation on the board, probably looking for an answer.

"Umm." I squinted at the board and then at my notes. "I don't know sir." Mr Kane sighed and then turned his attention to someone else.

"Clarke?" He asked.

"Sixty-four." She answered immediately. Mr Kane nodded.

"Lexa, pay attemtion." He told me. Grateful that he wasn't giving me a detention, I sunk back into my chair and properly paid attention.

The class passed slowly, and I kept sneaking looks at Clarke out of the corner of my eye. She didn't look at me again, at least not that I noticed. Finally, the bell rang. I sighed, both in relief and slight sadness. I wanted to get to know Clarke, and I wasn't sure she'd be in any of my other classes.

I watched as she fished her timetable out of her pocket and looked at it.

"I have english with Mrs Porter now." She told Raven and Octavia. Both of them shook their heads.

"We don't have her for anything." Raven said, but I smiled. So Clarke was in my english class too.

"I have that too." I said, trying to be helpful. "If you want, I can show you the way." Clarke smiled and hooked her bag over her shoulder.

"Thanks."

I picked up my own bag and led Clarke out of the room. She waved to her friends but then glared at them when they gave her knowing looks in return.

"So, where'd you come from?" I asked, making conversation as we walked down the hallway. Clarke frowned.

"Ark high." She said. I nodded, I'd heard of that. People said it was a good school.

"Why'd you leave?"

Clarke didn't say anything, and when I looked at her it was obvious she was trying not to cry. I immediately backpedaled.

"You don't have to tell me. I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked. Are you okay?"

"No." Clarke said, wiping her eyes quickly. "But it's fine. I'll tell you...sometime." I nodded, not wanting to upset her. Just then, we arrived at english class. I gave Clarke another second to compose herself before I led her in.

Mrs Porter smiled at Clarke when she saw her. I watched as Clarke went to talk to her before I sat down in my seat.

"Hey Lexa." Costia said loudly from next to me.I didn't respond, I was too busy watching Clarke. "Lexa?" Costia waved her hand in front of my face. I sighed and turned to face her.

"What?"

"Well, someone's in a good mood." She laughed. "I wanted to ask you something."

She sounded really nervous, and suddenly I knew where this was going. Luna had warned me about Costia, but I never took her seriously.

"Do you want to go out, like see a movie sometime?" Costia asked.

"Costia." I said, trying to think of a way to say no without hurting her. "I can't, I have..." I trailed off, realising that my netball practice excuse wouldn't work since she hadn't even said a specific day.

"There's someone else already isn't there?" Costias face fell. I fidgeted, she wasn't right, but she wasn't wrong either.

"It's complicated." I eventually said. "Sorry."

Costia frowned but nodded to acknowledge me. I knew she would take a while to get over my rejection, I had seen it before when her last girlfriend broke up with her. It took weeks before Costia could even stand to be in the same room as her.

I watched as Clarke finished talking to the teacher and went to find a seat. She sat next to Finn, who I hadn't noticed there. He greeted her enthusiastically, and she smiled at him. Oh yeah, she would know him because he was friends with Octavia and Raven.

Maybe Finn liked her. This thought made me kind of mad, but I pushed that thought aside. It was really none of my business.

"Alright class, settle down!" Mrs Porter called. The class continued to chatter away. "Quiet!" Her voice rose and everyone instantly settled down. Mrs Porter was known for giving out detentions quicker than most other teachers here.

I heard a giggle from behind me and turned to see Clarke with her hand over her mouth, trying not to laugh. Finn nudged her - a wide smile on his face - and Clarke took her hand off her mouth, keeping her laughter at bay.

Clarke saw me looking and smiled at me. I permitted myself one small smile back before I forced myself to turn away and pay attention to the class.

"You're friends with Lexa?" I could just hear Finn whisper to Clarke. It sounded like he was judging me. I had never really talked to Finn, so the harshness of his tone surprised me.

"Yeah." Clarke said, and she sounded just as surpirsed as I felt. "I like her, she's really nice." I smiled to myself, Clarke words echoing in my head. I like her.

"She's trouble." Finn muttered, and I heard Clarke huff. I knew she disagreed with him, and that made me happy.

"Why are you smiling like an idiot?" Costia whispered.

I forced myself to stop smiling.

"No reason." I whispered.
