On the night of her wedding, her cross over night to twenty-fourth birthday,
Sarah stood in white gown, in front of the mirror. She looked down at the band on
her left hand then look back at the mirror as she reflects on the day. Her mother
came into her room early in the morning to join in the prayer with her friends who
spent the night with her. She had been very happy. She had thought she would cry
but she hadn’t. It’s now that her eyes are gathered with tears but she blinked them
back. It’s a happy night for her and it will stay that way, with no tears. She stood in
her gown waiting for her husband. He had offered to say goodbye on their behalf.
He had teased her before he left to greet the guest that she remain in her gown till
he returns to the room, though she had shopped for cloths and things she will need
for her honeymoon with the help of her friends. She continued to replay the event,
the people that came. There were so many people in attendance; her uncles, aunt,
her cousins, friends and colleague from school. Some of her esteemed teachers and
lecturers were present too. She made a mental note to send a thank you message to
them all.
It was her mum that touched her the most. She kept using her handkerchief to
wipe the tears gathering at the side of her eyes all through the ceremony, the few
times she checked to see her, she smiled back at her to reassure her all is well. But
she was happy that she will no longer be lonely as she feared. She has a man that
she’s seeing now, a widower. They met on her trip to London, some months earlier
when she went for a retreat at work. He was very charming and good looking for a
man of fifty-five. Peju was acting so grown, as Sarah remembered her going around
with their cousin and some of her friends to ensure everything went well and in
order and that all the guest were well taken care of. She made a mental note to thank
her sister too when she gets the chance. Nick’s parents were also ecstatic at their
first son getting married. They looked more in-love every time she saw them. She
did dance with Nick’s dad when it was time for Father-daughter’s dance. She
couldn’t ask for better in-laws. Tabitha was very happy because she had always
thought of Sarah as a sister and Jed couldn’t be more pleased. Jed is now her brother
in-law. It was all so funny in a way because he had always been like a brother to her, protecting her. She was so glad for him with the sales of his book. He published his
book which he wrote in a stylish and enthralling manner describing so many
challenges people face which they have overcome without them knowing they have
them, encouraging his readers that they can face and overcome any other difficulty
that springs up in future. It was a sort of encouragement to hold on and never give
up no matter how challenging the hitch or the hurdle life brings. Finally he earned
the respect of his father with the publication and sales of ‘the tiny shiny star’ a book
which gained so much popularity beyond their expectation. And their little step
brother was almost ten, looking radiant. He follows Kike around and she watches
over him like a mother hen.
And her beloved, Nicholas, he had been very patient with her. His
commitment is so endearing. What is more is seeing the way he has grown
spiritually. And though they have had lots of obstacles on their way, they have had
many breakups and make up, it’s really divine to have both of them married in
church and before God and share their first kiss as a couple before Him and in the
presence of His people as witnesses. Lasting till this very moment, with the longings
and rush of emotion, the tug of war, she could only thank God who helped her to
keep her promise to Him. Their own love story was indeed written by God because
she knew in her heart of heart that play boys don’t change every day and she will
encourage no one to change a player unless his soul has been arrested by His
maker.
She heard the doorknob turned and she watched as her heartthrob made his
way to where she stood. He took her hands in his as he gently prayed and thank the
divine creator, for blessing them so much and preserving their love. At the sound of
‘amen’ from their lips, he drew her close to him
