Chapter 25. Her last breath

Start from the beginning

This was much better then he could have hoped for. He didn't know why Oakenshield went the wrong way but at least he could kill you first. The dwarf would be blind with rage and therefor easier to defeat. 'Go over there, make him watch' Azog ordered and the orc's left him. He didn't need them to protect him against woman. He could handle them himself.

'Are you sure about this?' Kim asked as she followed you to the ruïn. You held your sword close to you. You wouldn't go up there to find Azog, you knew how that would end. Instead you immediately walked towards the frozen waterfall. There's where it would all happen. You weren't sure how this would play out, but you did know that at least one person would die on this ice tonight. 'Bilbo, Kim, go to the other side' you told them. Bilbo shook his head. 'I am supposed to keep you safe. Since I'm already not doing that by letting you go here I will protect you against that white orc' he said with confidence. You smiled at him. Bilbo had been such a good friend during this journey. 'Bilbo, if there are more orc's we need to split up and not let them surround us.' The hobbit thought about this.

'Will you and Marriet be safe here?' You looked at Kim. 'Yes, we will be safe.' She was barely containing her tears but she knew that if she cried the hobbit would never leave you alone. You had to do this with Marriet so they could finish the job if you didn't succeed. 'Alright then, we will go that way. Shout my name if anything happens and I will come to you as quickly as I can' Bilbo said. 'Thank you Bilbo' you spoke softly. Kim and Bilbo left to look for more orc's while you and Marriet waited on the ice for the pale orc. You didn't have to wait for long. You heard him coming before you saw him. The ice beneath your feet started to crack as he stepped on it. The ruïn around you was silent, there were no birds nor the sound of battle.

Azog appeared from behind a fallen pillar and was just standing there, smiling at you. You tightened the hold on your sword and prepared yourself for what was to come. By now Thorin would have reached the other end and would have found nothing but empty space. He would soon realize you had lied to him and understand that you were still on your quest to safe his life. You knew he would never forgive himself if you got killed, but you couldn't handle it if he would die either. Azog walked closer, he didn't make an afford to chase you. The orc knew you wouldn't run away from him. He saw the determination in your eyes. You would try to kill him so he wouldn't be able to kill the dwarf. What a pity you would be the one to die.

Waiting for Azog to come closer was torture. It was now or never, you told yourself. You ran towards him, your sword ready to attack, and you aimed at his legs. Azog knew what you were doing and hit you on your side with his arm, causing you to fly through the air. You hadn't seen that coming. Marriet had followed you and now stood in between you and the pale orc. He smiled before he swung his axe at her. She duck just in time and stabbed him in his foot. Azog cried out in pain and almost hit here with his axe. It landed right next to her, barely touching her skin. Marriet tried to get up as quickly as she could but her sword was stuck in his foot. You had got up from the ground and used all your strength to stop his axe with your sword.

You hadn't thought this would be easy but the orc was a lot stronger then you had given him credit for. He pulled Marriet's sword out of his feet and threw the weapon a few feet away, out of her reach. She tried to get up and get it but the ice was too slippery. Azog came your way, his axe ready to break every single bone in your body. You walked back as he came closer to you. You knew the cliff was nearby and you couldn't walk back for ever. Azog swung his axe but you avoided it by jumping back. He swung it again but you jumped back. How much longer would you be able to avoid his attacks? You were walking backwards so you couldn't see the frozen stone that made you trip. You fell on your back and landed on the ice.

You lay close to the edge of the waterfall, you would have slipped off if you hadn't fell on your back just then. Azog raised his axe and pointed it at your chest. When he let it crash down you tried to block it with your sword. He was so strong and you could barely stop him. The pointy tip of his axe came closer and closer to your chest. You looked up at him and saw the grin spread on his lips. You weren't going to survive this.

Thorin reached the hill quickly. He got up there, expecting orc's all around him but there were none. He looked around and searched for them. They only found a few and they came in little groups. 'Where are they?' Kili asked confused. 'Aren't there supposed to be more orc's if Azog was here?' Fili asked. Thorin had asked himself the same question. His nephews were right. He would have more orc's protecting him if he would be here. That could only mean one thing...

Thorin turned around and looked at the ruïn on the other side. There, next to it, he could see the waterfall. First he saw the pale orc and when he looked closer he could see you there too. Thorin ran forward, trying to get a better view. His eyes must betray him. You had told him Azog wasn't there. You had told him your quest was.... Your quest. The wizard wanted you to prevent his death. And that was exactly what you were doing right now. The last thing he saw was Azog raising his axe before he turned his face and climbed on his mountain goat to reach the ruïn.

I heard her yelling my name. It sounded panicked. Something was wrong and I wasn't there to protect her. 'Come!' I yelled to Kim and I rushed towards the higher plateau of the ruïn. From there I would be able to spot her in time. Time was all she needed. Time could be the one thing that stood between her death or her life. I came running up the ruïn, panting, when I saw them. Marriet and (y/n) were the only ones standing on the ice. (Y/N) was standing close to the edge of the frozen waterfall. There was blood running down a wound in her head and she looked unsteady on her feet. Marriet was standing a few feet away from her. Both their swords were stained with blood.

'Oh (y/n)' I said. I knew this would hunt her for a long time. I presumed they had somehow killed the white orc. Even though he had tried to kill her beloved, she would still feel bad about taking someone's life. I knew her too well for that. 'Where is the pale orc?' Kim asked, looking around to find the lifeless body of the orc. I stood up on my toes, trying to find his body. (Y/N) was looking down at the ice beneath her feet, it seemed like something was floating there. Marriet walked closer to her, looking at the same thing as (y/n). 'What are they looking at?' I asked worried. Something didn't sit right with me. Suddenly she screamed out in pain and I hold my breath. The white orc came up from beneath the ice and pushed his sword right through her stomach.
