Chapter 25: Dirty Jigsaw

Start from the beginning

I managed to giggle at Leslie which came out as a sniff owing to my sullen mood. My face was pale enough to deserve a hug and a little patting on my back from her. I borrowed some tissues to take care of my running nose and sat my ass down on the chair.

"So guys, its been a while since we played any board games. Let's see what all we have over here. We have Jenga, we have Pictionary, cards, monopoly deal, cross-word, Uno, life and some weird jigsaw puzzle which I don't even know how has made its way in this pile. I actually put a word at the hostel for any kind of indoor games and people kept throwing in all this shit. What do you guys want to try out first? Ginna?" Leslie furnished us with the details of her belongings.

"Anything is fine.", I replied to her. I honestly wasn't in the mood for any board games. I had just come for the coffee.

"Come on Ginna. Let's have some fun before we dive deep into prepping for the exams. Choose any one.", Leslie caressed my arm and gave me a warn smile.

I really didn't know which one to go with even after scanning the pile multiple times. Finally, Mia drove to my rescue and suggested we choose by assigning a game to every finger and have me choose any one. By a show of hands, I was asked to make my selection. I choose to go with the thumb and pulled it.

Mia twitched her lips and groaned out in frustration.

"Out of everything, you had to pick out the damn puzzle!", she chided which caused all of us to burst out laughing."

"Okay so let's have it. Give me the puzzle.", Mia demanded and I handed it over to her.

"So what are we supposed to make. Show me the reference picture.", Leslie asked her.

"Babe, why is there 'For ages 18 and above' printed on the box?", Mia asked her while her face replicated a puzzled look.

Leslie snatched the box from her hand and forced it open. She scanned the reference with eyes as wide as a hawk and turned it over to show Mia who dug her eyes into it and the two of them erupted into loud, uncultured and unstoppable laughter. I got curious about it and decided to check it out myself. I snatched it from them and saw its contents. Mia and Leslie waited for my reaction while they exchanged a curious look.

I narrowed my eyes at both of them and surprised them by breaking into fits of laughter myself. This was the most I had laughed in a few days. It was hilarious. I couldn't control myself. It was a naughty adult jigsaw puzzle probably bought from a sex store. It had a picture of a sexy naked women accompanied by a macho naked man sporting a sensual pose together. Someone had been trying to have fun with Leslie by bringing her this erotic puzzle.

The laughter had caused the stress to evaporate from my body. Leslie, Mia and I had actually attempted to complete the jigsaw while taking our own time with sensual jokes and carnal innuendos. It had turned out to be a fun day which was what I had needed the most. I realized later that I needed the that session to clear my mind and relax before I geared up to study for the tests. At the end of the day, I gave each of them a tight hug mouthing an unsaid thank you for having my back.

***

Andy, Mia and I started meeting regularly to study together. We would prefer meeting at our apartment but would sometimes find ourselves at some café when we needed a break from the monotony. I hadn't heard from Adrian since our break-up but Cole regularly visited to exchange notes. He didn't talk about Adrian though and we pretended as if the break-up never happened. I had managed to keep myself busy with studying for the test to avoid dealing with my feelings. Like always, I had decided to delay feeling anything because I had to other matters of prime importance on my cards.

I was immensely hurt and mad at Adrian to the extent of seeking vindictive pleasure out of calling him a douche. Kylie and Aurelia would regularly call me up to help me deal with it and I wouldn't lie but many of those calls ended with me hanging up on them since I couldn't control my tears which made my voice shaky. I could only share my frustration and anger with them. The night we had broken up, I had immediately called Kylie up and cried my heart out but I wasn't over it yet. I was suffering from pangs of heartbreak and sometimes even when I wasn't necessarily dwelling on it, or when I was busy studying or when I was merely holding a cup of coffee, I felt the heartbreak and more prominently, I felt the distance.

No matter how angry I was with Adrian, I missed him. An elated feeling of loss always accompanied me wherever I went. Adrian might not have been with me but the pain of our separation never let me banish him from my thoughts. As time passed, my anger and resentment with him started fading like fine lines and I realized that my love for him highlighted like glitter in the page of my heart. No matter how much I tried to convince myself, it wouldn't go away but I wasn't going to confront him. Just like my heart couldn't forget his prints, my mind couldn't forget the harshness of his words.

I was weak but I wasn't going to succumb to my weakness and let him have the satisfaction of breaking my spirit.
