Rain In The River

+~Chapter Twenty-Two~+

Well, at least the hurricane's over.

Amy's POV

I yawned, and stretched as I woke up, blinking the sleep from my eyes. I shook the others awake, telling them we should hurry while the rain is sprinkling.

They nodded, and I put a brace on the broken limbs. They're healing. Not much, but it's still healing.

We trudged on, the mud sucking at our feet, making them soggy, and miserable. "How long do we have to keep going like this?" Lily complained.

"Hmm..." I looked around for landmarks, but this part all looks the same. "We've still got a while."

An hour passes, and the rain starts to quicken again. Damn it. We've found an open field, and right at the perfect timing.

I groan as the wind made the rain cold, and sharp. What lovely weather. I thought.

"Now how long?" Lily asks, miserable.
"I remember this place." I say. "It's the field next to their old cave. So not too long."

"Thank god." She and Will says at the same time.

I stop dead in my tracks as I reached the cave. "Welp... We're here..."

"Who's there?" A voice called out.
Looks like they've appointed guards.
I stepped out of the bushes.

"Us." I announced as the other two hesitantly come out behind me. The rain has stopped. I don't know the guard. I don't know half the people here.

The guard looked at us. "You're the people who attacked Cloud..." He said, his gaze hardening.

"Yes. We are. I'm Amy."
He glared at me, raising his makeshift spear up.

"And you are..?" I ask.
"Thunder..." His lips peeled back. "What do you want? Tell me now, or I'll use this." He made a threatening motion with the spear.

"I want- We want a place to stay." Well. I haven't really thought this through. 'Oh, hey! I tried to kidnap your friend to kill him. Will you let me live here?'

He looked at me as if I am crazy. "And why in the hell will we let you stay here after all you've done?"

"Fine. We'll live in your old cave and risk getting killed by our former government." Lily announced, huffing, arms crossed and nose up.

"Okay?"
Lily snorted. He stood there, spear still up. "Soo... Are you going to go now?"
"Fine!" Lily stomped away, and we followed her. Well that didn't go as planned.

River's POV

I scoffed as Thunder explained what just happened at the cave entrance while he was on guard duty. Right now, Ocean is guarding the entrance.

What was Amy thinking? 'Oh, I just attempted to bring your friend to his death. Can I live here?'

Rain folded her arms, looking upset. "Good thing you didn't let them in... They can hurt someone when no ones looking... And they'd find out about Peb and Anne."

"Exactly. What were they thinking, of course they cant live here!" I sighed.
"That's what I was thinking." Thunder announced. "They must be ill."

"Except Lily." Pebble said. "Lily is just unbelievably innocent."
"She doesn't even know what the traitor ceremony is." Anne laughed.

"You shouldn't either, Anne." Pebble glanced toward her sister who slapped her mouth shut.

Skull is in the corner, not talking, or moving. Just thinking. I think. Then he blinked. "Hey, everyone?"

A few people looked at him. "Let's capture them, and throw them in that small cavern?" He continued as more people stared at him. "As prisoners. Put guards up, y'know? For revenge?"

"Yeah... Uhm.. I don't think-" Rain began, but someone interrupted her.
"Yeah! Great idea! They're at the old cave, everybody! Let's get a group of five or six, and charge the old base!"

"Yeah!" Multiple people announced at once. Rain sighed. Six people charged out the cave, later on bringing the three in.

"Trow 'em in the dungeon!" One bellowed, followed by a few others. Rain cringed. "That sounded.. So very childish..."

I nodded in agreement. "What were you about to say earlier? You don't think what?" I asked her.

"Oh wow. Someone was listening." She grinned, looking at the ground.
"I'll always listen to you, Rain." I teased.

"Don't be cheesy, Riv'." She laughed, nudging my side.
"Just sayin'." I shrugged, smirking.

"I was saying I don't think that's necessary, I mean no one even scratched you or Cloud, when Cloud killed like, what, five of 'em? I mean, yes, they tried, and they deserve to be punished, but we need to preserve our food anyway, never mind three more mouths to feed."

"Who says we'll feed them?" Someone shouted across the cave. Rain glared at him. "Starvation is three weeks of non-stop pain, and suffering. No one should die like that."

"Yeah, Rain's right." Sunny said. "We'll have to feed them at some point. Is one meal a day good?"

"That's all I eat." Anne said.
Rain sighed, and sipped coffee. "Do whatever, I guess."

"Pebble, Anne." Amy called. "I wouldn't suggest going back to the country. The president knows where you've been."

"How?" Pebble demanded, rage firing up in her eyes.
"Wolves suspected that's where you went, and the president thinks even if someone didn't betray him, he'll kill 'em traitorously anyway, because they've been gone for too long."

"Whatever." Pebble scoffed. "I can still disguise myself,"
"Hah. Good luck with that." Amy rolled her eyes.

"Shut up, prisoner." Storm squeaked. "Prisoners don't talk."
"Whatever, kid." Will scoffed.

"Wait, we're prisoners?" Lily gasped.
"What did you think we were? Honored guests?" Amy hissed.

Lily looked at the ground.
"Don't let her foul mood get to you, Lily. She's just angry, that's all." Will assured her.

"I said shut it, prisoner!" The seven year old squeaked again.
The 'prisoners' disappeared into the dark cavern, Thunder and Skull keeping guard.

The rain has stopped, and the sky has begun to brighten. I hope this indicates the end of this storm.

I glance at Rain, who's also looking at the cave entrance, and at the sky, probably thinking the same thing.

I just hope this isn't only a break from the storm.
