A/N: Hey everyone! This chapter is in Melissa's perspective. Speaking of Melissa, I attached a picture on how I imagine her to look like. See if you can relate. ;)

Like every school, our school too, was very stereotypical. Causing people to label one another immediately. Nerd, geek, jock, popular, ugly, pretty, bully, and many other ridiculous stereotypes. It had only been the end of first day of school, and everyone had already labelled Mason as the "flirt" of the school. I wasn't surprised. He had that one coming.

I was wrong about him, he was like every other guy, flirting with every girl that crossed their path. I rolled my eyes with dissatisfaction as I grabbed my backpack out of my locker. Every after school, I would walk home because my parents were busy working. Mom was a neurosurgeon, out working at the hospital day and night. My dad was an author, never leaving his work room, always writing. My parents were both extremely passionate about their jobs. One time, Dad announced that he was going to write about my mom. After several days, weeks even, he came back with a single piece of paper with 5 words scribbled in it.

"The only reason I write."

As much as they were passionate about their jobs, they were more passionate about one another. Most of the time, their lovely dovey-ness annoyed me, but secretly, I admired it.

We lived in a small apartment downtown around fifteen minutes away. It wasn't much distance for walking, but today, I was extremely tired for walking. I decided to take the shortcut through the dark, narrow alley that led straight to our complex. I kicked an empty soda can as I walked through the alley. It was awfully quiet. My footsteps, along with the soda can hitting the floor, echoed through the alley. After a couple minutes, I heard laughter behind me, making me realize I wasn't alone anymore. The footsteps behind me caught up to me.

I turned around to see who it was.

"Well hello there beautiful." I saw a wide smirk with two other faces staring right at me.

Troy, Luke, and Jacob.

The school's mafia. The people everyone chooses to avoid, because once you're involved with them, there's no way out.

"What do you want Troy?" I wasn't scared of them.

The three of them stepped closer to me, causing me to back up against the alley's wall. Troy was the leader. Luke and Jacob followed him around and did everything he said like dogs. I pitied them, working for an ass like Troy. Troy was one of those guys that got everything he wanted because he was dirt rich. He bribed people with money. Alluring them to do all sorts of his dirty work. I despised these types of people. And I especially despised him.

Last year, I slapped him in front of the whole school because he pushed an  innocent, disabled kid off his wheelchair. Ever since then, I have been labelled the most "courteous" of the school. I had expected him to hate me after humiliating him in front of the whole school like that, however ever since, he has been trying to get my attention. He liked that I hated him and that I wasn't afraid to show it.

"You shouldn't be here alone, y'know. It's not safe." Troy winked at me.

The distance between us had become only inches apart. He touched the tips of my hair with his long fingers. I slapped his hand away.

"Don't touch me." I glared at him with intensity.

He let out a short frustrated laugh looking back at Luke and Jacob.

He quickly turned back to me, staring straight into my eyes.

"Don't tell me what to do." He smiled. "You know," He trailed off, "You're very hot when you're mad."

"You know, you're messed up from the head." I replied.

Troy clenched his fists, resting it against the wall next to me.

"Say," He started, "Why is a pretty girl like you, alone in an alley like this?"

He had a beautiful face but his personality made him hideous. I wanted to knock the living shit out of him. A familiar voice responded before I could respond.

"Who said she was alone?" Mason.

I felt relieved. Why was I relieved?

He walked up to Troy, pushed him away from me with more force than needed, causing him to fall on his knees. Mason turned to Luke and Jacob with a threatening look.

"Stay away from Melissa." He turned back to Troy. "You too, asshole."

He gently grabbed my hand and pulled me with him through the dark alley.
