The Beginning

Silence was a very rare thing in Seoul. The city was mostly busy and bustling with life, even at night or at the crack of dawn. So when silence finally fell over the city, it was a relief- relief for the busy and tired office workers, for the vendors always shouting out for customers, for the worked up college or University students procrastinating about their next assignment due date. In short, silence was the breath of fresh air in a overly polluted city that the people of Seoul could not get enough of. So, it was rare for people to spend such a silent and still night awake and not taking a much-deserved nap after such a busy week.

But tonight was a different story. It was a silent night. But unlike every other blissfully silent nights, it did not have the same taste of bliss or relief tinged in the air; the same pleasant humming of the crickets or even the soothing, chilly air that blew over the city reminding it's people that winter was approaching was nowhere in sight. No, tonight had none of those. Instead there was a sudden restlessness in the air, as if all the creatures were anxiously waiting for some terrible event to unfold. There was nothing pleasant about this night. A tense silence enveloped the very air of the normally busy city. No sign of crickets or bats or even wolves and dogs could be found. It was like the creatures too knew about some terrible happening that the humans were oblivious to.

The night seemed to hold it's breath, waiting, anxiously waiting for the unavoidable doom to pass. Suddenly, the tense silence of the night was disturbed as a shrill cry pierced the former tense silence. It was a blood-curdling, horrifying sound that seemed to shake one to the core with a seemingly terrible fear. A fear of the unknown. And just like it began it stopped, leaving a anxious city in it's wake. The night, now not so silent as before, seemed to heave a painfully guilty sigh of relief- relieved that it weren't them that had been preyed on- though the air remained saturated with agony and pity.

For it knew, that the unfolding events that were to occur in the very near future was anything but relieving.

" So.... according to you, the woman was found with a deep gash on the middle of her abdomen...which after the discovery of the corpse just disappeared.... Like boo.... seemingly into thin air?!" The last sentence was spoken with such a tone of intense disbelief and incredulosity that the brown-haired male in front of him flinched.

After a moment, the middle-aged, black-haired man sighed in frustration after seeing the brunette in front of him nod slowly. He looked outside the window and noticed the daily buzzing of traffic, the flow of life around him seemed to go so normally that it made him furious. 'How can people be so.... calm?? So stupid to leave their homes at night?! How can they act so normal and content when they should be worried for their life? Were they stupid or just plain ignorant??!!' - His internal rants were cut off when the nervous brunette spoke again. " Mr. Kim.... h-has already r-reached the crime s-scene... S-sir... H-he s-says it is... is not a hum..( a nervous gulp resonated around the tense atmosphere of the stuffy, grey room) human's work... Sir."

Of course it wasn't. Humans were cruel and even bloodthirsty but not to the point to actually magically stab a woman and litter her body with gashes only for the corpse to be discovered beheaded with an odd scar on her forearm and her head to be found on a vertical position on her bosom with blood pooling around the corpse. No, he wasn't stupid to assume it was a human to begin with. The crime scene wasn't providing much help in giving away much evidence. Though, with Kim here, we can surely expect miracles any moment now... The man thought bitterly.

The murder, to the man, seemed too perfectly thought out... Too cruelly carried out to be something human. He sighed again. "You are dismissed" he said gruffly. The brunette barely squeaked in response before practically running out of the cabin.
