Chapter One // How It all began.

800 AD, ENGLAND

“ Be careful children! and make sure you all are back on time for dinner!” A woman's voice yells from the door of a small cottage home. “Yes mother!” Three voices called back causing an echo to sound through the forest. The ringing caused a few sitting birds to fly off, one after the other. Cheerful laughter fills the thick air as the children begin to chase one another with no worry in the world to cease their fun.

“Get back here you two!” A girl, no older than 12, yelled out as her two playful siblings continued to run off into the unknown. The wind blew the hairs on the oldest sister's head, all around her as she looked back to see if her younger sister was anywhere to be seen.

“Nope! You’ll have to catch us.” the youngest of the three yelled out, jumping over a log and crossing a stream of water to hide behind a fat tree. His heavy breath was the only thing he could hear as he tried to catch his breath, and calm down. Just as he had calmed down, the sound of a twig snapping behind him scares him, and a hand covers his mouth, “Shh-shh, it's me, Joanna.” she says, still covering his mouth making sure he doesn’t make too much noise, and alert their sister of their whereabouts. Slowly removing her hand, Joanna leans up against the tree to calm her breathing down as much as she can. The boy grabs his sisters hand and whispers to her, “do you see her?” His eyes look around himself, and in front of them incase their sister tries to sneak up on them.

“No.” Joanna whispers back, squeezing his hand tightly. She takes a peak around the tree to see if her sister was anywhere to be seen, but to no luck. The two stood there for what felt like forever, waiting for their sister to find them so they could continue their game of hide-and-seek.

“I bet you she got distracted picking flowers.” Alec whispers to Joanna while rolling his eyes. Laughing, Joanna nods her head, “ You know, you’re probably right.” Moving around the tree, Joanna drags her brother along with her and crosses over the stream to go look for their sister in her favorite flower field. The sound of yelling is heard in the far distance, causing the two to get worried and rush to find their sister. Running as fast as the two could, they came upon their sister laying down all beaten up and blood on her hands. “Jane! Jane!” The children's mother calls out coming into view of all three children. Joanna and Alec were frozen in fear at the sight they saw. Their sister was all shakin up and scared out of her mind.

“Mom, I didn’t mean it. They kept calling me a witch and wouldn’t stop hitting me. It hurt so bad. I’m so sorry.” Jane cried out into her mother's arms as her brother and sister came to sit down next to them, and try their best to comfort their crying sister. “Shh-shh sweetheart, I know baby. I know you try to control it.” Their mother strokes Jane's hair back and kisses her forehead.

“Joanna, rip a piece of your apron and give it to Alec.”

Quickly, Joanna rips a piece of her apron and gives it to Alec. “Now Alec go get it wet.” He takes it and goes to get it wet in the nearby stream. “Please hurry.” Their mother tells a running Alec. Within two minutes Alec returns and hands the wet cloth to his mother. “Thank you baby.” Their mother applies it to Jane’s forehead and whips all the blood that stained her perfect pale complexion. Joanna sat there feeling dread wash over her as soft whimpers are heard next to her. Bringing her brother into her arms, Joanna allows Alec to cry. “We’re sorry Jane. If we didn’t run off from you, we could have protected you from them.” Joanna cries out, allowing tears to roll down her heated up face. She could feel her eyes start to turn dark, but quickly blinked a few times to keep them normal. “No my dears, you shouldn’t feel sorry. Those boys, and their parents should. No one should be harmed for things they didn’t do. These people are always blaming you three.” Their mother shakes her head getting up, and helping Jane up as well. “Let's go love, it’s getting dark.” Nodding, Joanna, and Alec get up as well.
Heavy footsteps could be heard approaching the family, alerting them that someone was coming. Angry shouts are heard as angry people, evil people, begin to surround them. Everyone with their own weapon, and torch. “Where are they!” The people yelled full of rage.

“Who?!” Their mother questions pushing her kids behind her to protect them from the raging people from their town. “Our boys! They came out to collect wood and never returned,’ - “We know their disappearance is due to your witch twins, and demon child!” A man yells at the family. The people continued to accuse the children. Getting closer with every word. Joanna’s breathing became heavy as the air became hotter with every passing second. Her eyes start to change color, but she quickly puts her head down to not draw more attention to themselves.

“Your boys assaulted my daughter! Look at her. The bruises and blood, you can't be seriously trying to blame her for their actions?!”
“That would give her more of a reason to do something to them. Now, we want answers!” The same man yells not caring about the bruises that covered the side of Jane’s face, and the dried blood on her chin.
“There are no answers for you!” Joanna yells allowing her eyes to grow darker and flames to gather at the tips of her fingers. The people back up as Joanna continues to approach them, “Joanna! Stop honey, stop!” Their mother yells pulling her back and making her get behind her.
“I’m sure your boys are somewhere playing in the woods.” Their mother tries to reason. Fear radiates off of her as she could visibly see that the anger in the people's eyes was still there. In the moment she felt true terror for the lives of her children.

The people look at the family with disgust, “Get them!” A woman yells as the people grab a hold of each member of the family.  “You’ll pay for the wickedness of your children!!” A priest yells, pointing at the mother. Jane angirly replies, “You’re the wicked ones!”

...

Joanna looks on with anger, fear, and sadness as her brother and sister are tied to a stak. “You, fire starter, get to watch the very thing you used to burn down our farms, burn your sister and brother.” A nasty man taunts Joanna as he takes a swing of his beer. Tears fall down her face as she witnesses her mother being knocked to the ground, and bleeding out. Joanna felt mute. She couldn’t scream, cry, nor beg them to stop. All she could do was watch as fire was put at the post of the stake, and as it slowly creeped up to Jane and Alec. Joanna tried to use her powers to stop the fire, but it was no use. She didn’t have that control, and even if she did. She couldn’t do anything, her hands were tied behind her.

“Now, for your sentencing!’ The priest yells turning his attention to Joanna. She starts to try and shake herself free from the ropes as the people turn their attention from her siblings, to her.

“What do you say?” The priest questions the people, awaiting their request. “Behead her!” The people chanted as Joanna was exscorted to the execution post and placed down into position. Her eyes find Jane’s and Alec’s tearful eyes begging them to stop and just punish them. Joanna cried out screaming, “ I will be back!! I will be back!! And I will kill all of your descendants! I promise you all that.!!!”

Laughs erupt through the crowd, “Yeah right!” many of them mocked her, not taking her seriously. Joanna looked at her siblings one last time, as the sword came down…...and detached her head right before them.

“Ms. Ellen you need to push! Come on.”

“No, no, no. I can’t. Please, I can’t.” A young woman cries as the pains of childbirth rocks through her body, causing her to become weaker. The doctors rush to help assist the lady, and keep her awake as they see her eyes start to close. “Come on Ms.Ellen, you need to stay with us and stay focused!” - “ Oh! Oh! Almost there. One more push!!” The doctor encourages her trying to hurry and get the baby out as soon as possible.

“AHHHH!” With one final push the cries of the newborn baby feel the room, causing a sigh of relief to escape out of the mouth of everyone.

“Congrats Ms.Ellen, you gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The woman smiles weakly, trying to gain enough strength to sit up, as the nurses place the wailing child into her mother's arms. "What's her name?" A kind nurse asks, walking over with a clipboard and pen. Ms.Ellen looks down at the girl for a few seconds, and then back up at the nurse and says quietly……

    "Joanna."
