"I-I-I jus-t li-ke w-atching the mu-sic practice," she said, unwittingly closing and opening her eyes at intervals.
"Hmm. See who likes music. That's really nice."
"Y-es! A-A-nd I can s-s-ing too." She smiled.
"You can sing keh? Stop o!" I scoffed.
"O-o-kay I-I will sur-prise y-you one day," she said, with confidence.
"No, please surprise me today." I scoffed again.
Her confidence was scary but still funny. I wanted to laugh so badly even though I knew It would be unfair to laugh at a stammerer like that.
"N-n-no I-I'm n-not designing." She resisted.
"Anhanh na. Please na." I begged.
"Mnn-Mnn-Mnn! O-okay. F-fine." she cleared her throat before she began to sing.
"Never mind, I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you, too. Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said-"
What th-?
And she sang. She sang without any break. What I expected to be hilarious was rather fantastic. How? A stammerer.
Her mezzo-soprano voice killed me, and for a minute, I thought it was Sia singing Adele's song.
"Wait! Why are you not in the music group for the festival if you can sing so well?" I asked impatiently.
Instead of giving a reply, she sighed deeply staring at her feet whilst she picked her nails.
I understood the meaning of her silence. I didn't have to ask the second time. It was probably because of the witch stuff. They wouldn't want a witch appearing in front of their king during the presentation.
Again, Nigeria your country.
We were still talking when Ibudun's finest appeared out of nowhere. King Adeolu's only daughter. The way she took her steps towards us reminded me of Thor, one of my friends' cat. And as much as I didn't want to look, her banging body begged me to stare.
"Mide, can I have a minute?" Rera asked when she closed in on us.
"Excuse me sorry," I whispered to Titi before joining Rera where she stood.
"Hey, Rera. What's up?" I ambled towards her with a smile and with my arms almost stretching wide for a hug.
I wanted to hug her so badly. I wanted to squeeze her in my arms and feel her watermelons rubbing on my chest. How sweet would that be?
Shut up, you perverted bomboclat.
"Don't hey me. So, she is the reason you have been ignoring me right?"
She folded her arms, taking my eyes to those watermelons again. God! I was losing focus.
"Ignore you? God no. I wouldn't do that," I said.
I brushed my dreads backward with my palm before packing them again in the ponytail they were.
I mostly did that when I was saying the truth...not.
"Ohh! That's why you didn't bother to text me since that night. Or why you found a new seat in class. Tell me when you stop lying," she said.
"Okay, you got me. I wasn't trying to ignore you per se. I was just trying to give you space after that my awkward message." I dipped my hands in my pockets, in search of confidence.
"Hmm. Or you think I don't feel the same way." she looked at me from the side of her eyes, and flicked her nose at the same time.
"Shit!" I muttered.
