The soft breeze across Amelia's cold, pale, soft face. The wind flowing through her light auburn and silky hair, slightly messing up her hairstyle. Her long coat falling to her side as the wind surrounds her. Her hands are warm and fairly comfortable with her hands placed in her coat with the soft, furry fabric on the inside. Standing at the end of the jetty, she looks around at the view. She takes a deep breath whilst observing the beauty of the landscape around her. The landscape is a pretty picture as the beautiful sunset is slowly rising,
Or so she thought.
A slight smile grew on her face, although it was cold and her body felt dead. Despite being a dark and miserable day, she never felt so alive. Her eyes are a Smokey ocean blue, so cold and so miserable. But her eyes show her whole emotion and her face expressing sorrow, even though she's smiling.
Her eyes say it all.
She faced the boat and took a step closer. Her smile grew wider as the birds fly over her head. Nature always gave her a reason to smile. A peculiar bird perches its tiny bird claws onto the jetty. A hummingbird. She recognizes it; she sees it in her dreams. The bird that was always by her side as a little girl. The bird had blue wings and a golden back. It always kept her calm whenever she struggled with anything and always turned up when something bad was about to happen. She never knew why. Was this a sign? Was something bad going to happen? Will she spiral out of control once again?
She didn't know.
Further up, she sees small children splashing in the water with their small brown and black dog. The dog looked familiar; those big floppy ears gave it away. It was a dog she felt she'd known all her life. The children had beautiful smiles and were playing catch with the ball alongside their dog. They were leaping around like wild animals, but she knew they were having so much fun. She missed the days where she could muck around with her siblings and have fun. She doesn't know what fun is anymore. Their smiles made her realize she was alone. They made her realize what she was missing out on. That she will never get another chance at being a child and acting silly without no one to judge her, she was alone, and she knew exactly why. A dark cloud forms over her as she feels something she's never experienced before.
Pure sadness.
She turns and notices the driver has disappeared. She knows that they shouldn't be leaving yet, so she heads towards the sand and slips her shoes off. The typically pale yellowish brown substances between her smooth toes with every bit of grain sticking to her feet as she walks to the edge of the water. She walks slowly through the water, feeling it surrounding her. The water was ice cold from the mourning breeze and the condensation from the cold air.
Shivering in despair.
She remembers when her family came down at the jetty getting into the family-owned boat, laughing and having fun. Those were the types of memories that she will never forget. Those were the types of feelings she will never get to experience again because with what family will she have to re-experience the old memories.
What will make her memories feel like home again?
The happy thoughts are brushed aside when she hears crying in the background. She's dragged back to reality as she turns around to see the kids crying. She wonders what could be wrong when she sees their red ball floating to sea. She dives into the water and swims as quickly as her legs can take her. The ball keeps going deeper into the sea. The kids start to cry even more. But she was determined to get that ball and be able to please those kids.
A few moments later, their parents come back. They seemed to be calling out to the children to get out of the water, but they won't listen or hear them. They are too busy trying to get their ball back, but it was too late. Their parents had swum to their kids and pulled the kids out of the water. They were all dried off and packing all their beach gear away. Amelia was still looking at the kid's faces. They were all so sad and full of sorrow. She had never seen any kid so miserable. The kids continue to cry, but neither parent noticed their pain.
