Amelia stares at her hands, pulling off her ring from her right hand and putting it back on. A gust of wind blew in from the Automatic sliding doors. She looked around the room; she could see other females in the room with young children hurt and injured. The fathers are there too, either holding the child or reading magazines to hiding the fact that they are upset. She feels sorry for the children and other patients. Some of them have broken limbs, cuts, red noses, bruising, scrapes, and the others seem to have stomach flew as they are holding garbage bags up to their mouth to throw up. She hates the hospitals, especially when she can't do anything about it. She cannot operate on her son.
She can hear whispering from parents trying to calm their child down, crying from babies in prams, uneven and distressed breathing from the sick patients.
She noticed someone had the same symptoms as her son. Her skin was pale; she coughed up blood every few minutes. Her skin wasn't looking too good, either.
She almost got up from the chair to hug her, but she didn't. She knew that one day that little girl wouldn't be here anymore. The little girl seemed the same age as her son. She wondered if her mother sitting beside her knew that one day her daughter will be in the same position that she is now.
She hasn't heard a thing from the doctors or the nurses. She thought that Jared would have least came out to check on her, but he didn't. She wonders if Heather got to him before, and he decided to listen to her one last time and completely ignore her. It went back to how it was before when he was ignoring her. Out of all the days to finally say something to her and comfort her and then she gets pushed away again like she meant nothing like Dimitri meant nothing.
Amelia felt numb. It was just her and April in the room. Oliver had left to go pick up her daughter from her cousin's place.
The room was dead silent. You could hear the patients' breathing and the machines going off and on behind the closed doors. Amelia looks over at April. She was tapping her foot on the ground and playing with her knee. Amelia knew what she was feeling. They were best friends since they were young. She knew April was beating herself over it. Amelia smiled while she places her hand over her leg. April looks up at her and smiles back. "I'm sorry, Amelia, I am. I'm sorry for using you so I could get with Oliver; I'm sorry for pretending to look after your kids so that Oliver could come in and spend time with the kids. I'm sorry for not watching Dimitri. I'm sorry for not being there for you in the hardest years of your life. I. I hope we can forget the past and forgive me, please."
Amelia smiles at April, placing her hand on April's hand. "I've missed you, and I would like us to go back to how it was before. It would help if you had told me that you had the hots for Oliver, and I would have stepped aside. He's my brother, well, half brother, but yeah. There's no chance for him and me anymore."
April let out a significant relief. She hugs Amelia tightly as Oliver walks in with Minnie. "What did I miss. Is Dimitri going to be okay?" They stopped hugging when they realised that they are still in the hospital waiting for news about their son. She has forgiven April but is there a chance that Dimitri will survive another significant obstacle in his life. Amelia had all of these emotions going through her mind, and she couldn't help it. Amelia hated the idea that everyone could lose one of the best things that have ever happened to them. It will be like losing a piece of her that she can never get back. No matter how hard she tries.
Amelia closes her eyes and lets out all the tears holding back. Nothing made sense anymore. All Amelia did was shed tears from her sorrowful looking eyes. April had seen her in despair. The same expression she saw when Amelia told her about her parents and siblings and how she couldn't save her younger brother from the accident. April places her arms around her while wiping her tears away. April knew how much this was hurting her. The fact that April has grown to love Dimitri as her own. She knew knowing that feeling Amelia was going through was hard. She didn't know what to do in this situation.
A nurse came out of the door, carrying a clipboard. Amelia got all worked up and stood up as she made herself closer. Amelia watched her in absolute guilt. She knew something was up as the nurse made her way over to the waiting room. She wasn't going to them thought there was another family in agony waiting for news. Amelia watched the nurse give the other family news. The mother dropped to her knees as the nurse stopped talking to them. The husband comforted her. He was trying to stay calm and be the strong-willed person to support them. The little girl that was there with them didn't know what was happening. She kept horsing around, being uncontrollable as small children do. She thought it was playtime. She jumped around them, wanting attention. Her older brother sat there and cried, and all she was making silly faces to cheer him. Nothing in the world can make them happy, not even their little girl. Somehow deep inside, she knew what was going on, but she didn't know what.
The little girl ran away from her parents and sat right next to Minnie. The little girl gave her a little hug and sat there in silence. "Hi, I'm five years old," Minnie mentioned to the little girl sitting right next to her. She just smiled and nodded at Minnie. "I'm Minnie. What's your name." She just sat there and giggled. "I'm Emily." She sits there and starts laughing again. She was way out of control which made Minnie go out of control. Emily's mother was not impressed with her daughter at all. They had just lost someone very close to them, and she didn't need her daughter being in the way all the time.
"I'm so sorry for the interruption. I hope whoever is in this hospital is okay." Her mother was so ashamed and embarrassed that her daughter was causing so much drama in the hospital.
Amelia felt sorry for her. She didn't know what to say to make everything okay. Amelia doesn't know what to do to make sure they are okay. She hopes she never gets to be in that situation when everything just gets ripped out from beneath them. Amelia lets in a large breathe and exhales louder than Amelia has ever done in her life. She cuddles up to Minnie, making her feel loved just as Jared walks out of the automatic doors into the waiting room. He doesn't look happy whatsoever.
"Dimitri is awake and wants to see you all," Jared says with a smile on his face. Amelia looked confused. A minute ago, he looked devastated, and now he's all happy. She had no idea what was going on, but she was going to find out. They all walked in the direction of the door when Jared pulled Amelia's arm back, stopping her from walking any further. "I need to talk to you after you see your son. Can you do that for me?"
Amelia nods and walks away from him.
