"Something must be bothering you?" Chase says as he opens the door for me like a total gentlemen. I was about to answer but was interrupted by the hostess who took us to our table and handed us the manus. Wow this was a little 'fancy' for a fish and chips place. As I look around, it was a little fancy in a way.
The walls were painted a bright red, with white strips, the floor was made up of white spotless tiles. All the tables had a white silk like table cloth and a single red rose in the middle. You couldn't forget about the giant chandelier in the middle of the place, sending sparks flying around the room.
"Just a fish and chip shop, huh?" I say still gawking at the place. I love where we were sitting because we had a window seat looking out across the water.
"Yep!" says Chase grinning as he to, looks around the place. "It's sure changed since they swapped owners though," he comments laughing.
"What was it like before?" I ask him, leaning back in my comfy chair. They even had chairs with pillows. Wow! was an understatement.
"Well it wasn't as..." he moves his hand and waves them about.
"Classy? Fancy? Bright?" I say throwing words at him laughing.
"Yes, all of those," he agrees smiling. "It was more quiet, peaceful kinda place. A sweet little place that sold the best fish and chips in the world, well I thought so." I can't help but notice how his eyes shine as he talks about this place. It held memories for him here.
"Pale blue wallpaper, oh and there was a huge whiteboard where kids could draw on it. I always used to draw things on there with a good.. person of mine. Of course along with the menu which some kids liked to rub things off and change things around a bit," he adds laughing at the memory.
"I'm going to take a guess and say you were one of those kids," I say smiling, Chase winks at me.
"You betcha kitten," he says as the hostess comes back around so we could order. After we had finished ordering, I asked my next question.
"So, what changed?" I ask him interested in knowing the answer. But I feel terrible when I notice Chase dropping his eyes to the table. Gosh I was a terrible friend or whatever I was to him. "I'm so sorry.." I quickly say but he speaks over me.
"I grew up. My family and I grew apart and the owners moved away after their daughter died," he says quietly.
"I'm sorry Chase," I tell him knowing my words were useless but I didn't know what else to say. How could I comfort him?
"She was amazing you know.." he mumbles softly, glancing out the window. "She wasn't just some girl like my dad said.." he continues. I frown, who was he talking about? What girl? I try and think back to what I knew. Chase looks away from the window and looks at me sadly. "She meant the world to me Aurora.. and then she was gone. Poof! just.. gone," he says shaking his head. I bite my lip, trying not to cry.
"Was she the daughter of the old owners here?" I ask him quietly, he nods his head. "What was her name?" I ask him, Chase glances at me and then looks away.
"Cordelia.."
I freeze, could it be the same girl I knew too, or was this another? Was it really a picture of him and Cordelia that was in the kitchen at the beach house.
"Hills."
"What?" Chase asks me looking up at me frowning. I flinch, I didn't know I had actually said that out loud.
"Hills. Cordelia Hills, right?" I ask him quietly, wanting to look away from him.
"How do you?..." he asks me confused. I sigh as I look down at my hands.
"I knew her when we were early teens. Well we meet when we were younger, around five years old but then she moved. To my great surprise she came back a few years later, we become quick friends. But then one day I woke up to find my best friend had disappeared.." I explain quietly.
"That would make sense," Chase mumbles softly. "I knew her when she was seven, but then she moved.. I didn't see her for weeks but then one day a few years back.. she appeared. We went out for a few days, but then she said that she needed to go back to someone. I'm guessing that someone is you!" Chase says looking at me. I start to feel guilty, I knew what was coming next. "But then when she left.. she didn't make it there.. she.. she..."
"I can't believe it's the same Cordelia," I say looking out the window, the sun had set by now leaving only darkness. "You know," I say thinking back to something. "She once told me that there was this guy she liked," I say quietly.
"Hmm.." Chase mumbles. I wanted to ask one question but.. I didn't think it was the right time to ask but I needed to know though.
"Chase.." I say, he looks up at me, his eyes shadowed.
"Yeah?"
"What am..." and my phone starts to ring. "Ugh! I'm sorry Chase," I tell him as I look down at my ringing phone in my hands. It was the same number as earlier today, at the movies. "I'm so sorry, I've got to take this," I say frowning, Chase just stares out the window. I really didn't want to leave him here but I had no choice. I quickly get up and rush outside, answering my phone on the way.
"What the fuck do you want?" I whisper harshly as I answer.
"Bout time you answered your phone babe," the other end says a little annoyed.
"I've been busy," I say. "And don't call me babe!" I state angrily.
"But babe," he whines, I roll my eyes.
"What do you fricken want?" I ask him already about to hang up on this guy. I notice a couple give me a rude look, I glare at them and they look away. That's right people, I'm angry so don't you fricken mess with me.
"You owe me remember," he says laughing.
"I don't owe you anything," I say harshly, I'm about to hang up when his next few words stop me.
"You hang up and I'll tell your new toy the truth, he looks so upset in that fish and chip shop." How the fuck did he know? Unless.
"You're stalking me now?" I yell at him, people glance at me again. I hear him laughing in the background.
"I wouldn't call it stalking babe, just watching."
"They're the same thing," I point out annoyed. "Mostly."
"Oh really, I want you to turn around babe," then the phone goes dead. I quickly spin around to find myself facing a brick wall, confused I stare at my phone.
"Ops did I say turn around?" A voice whispers close by my ear. I jump as I turn around to come face to face with Mike.
"Fuck off Mike!" I tell him angrily, but he only grins.
"Think of this as the first part of my revenge babe," he whispers as he leans in closer to me. I take a step back only to have my back touch the brick wall, crap. I was trapped.
"Don't come anywhere near me Mike!" I warn him as he continues to come closer until he puts his arm beside my head, leaning down over me.
"I think I deserve a kiss babe," he whispers quietly. I try and look around for help but it was dark and I couldn't see much because my head was trapped between his arms. I could kick him but I was frozen in fear as he leans down and bites my lip roughly. "Kiss me right now or it'll be worse," he warns me. I hate to be seen as afraid and scared but I really was, so I do the only thing I can do. I kiss him. I hear Mike moan, I try and block him out as best I could. Finally he let's go of my lips and pulls back grinning at me, I drop my head in shame. What had I done?
"That was only the beginning of my plan babe!" he says winking down at me.
"Aurora?" A deep voice calls out in disbelief and shook.
