Chapter 13: Aftermath

Start from the beginning

I still hadn't gotten any interview calls from the places I had applied to. Mia had gotten a call from a few diners and Leslie was working at the campus coffee shop. I knew I wouldn't be able to work at any cinemas because of my unusual class timings so I went ahead and applied at some stores for the cashier position.

Weekend swung by quickly and I was dying to get a break. I asked Mia if she wanted to go out. She declined my offer and told me she just wanted to sleep it off. I hadn't hung out with Adrian in the week so I asked him if he wanted to go out. He was more than happy to spend the Sunday together after his practice. We decided to visit a park and then grab some dinner.

I reached at the park before time since I had nothing better to do and waited for him while munching on some cotton candy. I thought of calling Kylie. We hadn't had a nice long talk since my classes began. She had to be free on a Sunday. I called her up and we updated each other about everything going on in each other's lives. I didn't even keep the fresher's party incident from her. She couldn't believe that I met Adrian over here and that we were good friends now.

"So, Adrian fought with that guy for you. Can't believe that the guy who fought with you for the better part of the semester is now fighting for you. How ironic.", she chirped.

"People change Kylie. Equations also change."

"I wish I would have been there when he apologized. I wanted to hear those 3 magical words coming out from his mouth."

"Hahaha.. it was like music to the ears."

"You know what Ginna, you've been blabbering about Adrian Carter for the last half an hour. I think you might just have a little crush on him. On top of that you even admitted that he's hot now."

"Admitting he is hot doesn't mean I have started liking him. I even find Kit Harington hot, but I don't have a crush on him."

"Stop stalling the question. You know what I meant."

I thought for some time on how to answer her question. I hadn't really pondered over what I thought about Adrian until now. I mean yes, I found myself occasionally thinking about him but then I would immediately change the course of my thoughts. I didn't want to investigate the reasons behind why he kept visiting my subconscious and why I felt this sudden attraction towards him.

"Adrian and I are good friends and I do think he has transformed into a great person but to answer your question honestly which I am only doing for you, it all depends on what you mean by the phrase 'like him'. Yes, I do like him in a 'he is hot and we have chemistry' kind of way. But I haven't thought of him in a 'I want a relationship with him' kind of way. And the one thing I have learnt from the past is not to jump into a relationship without looking at the entire picture and with Adrian, I know I still haven't seen his bigger picture."

"You only see someone's entire picture by being with them. You can't expect to see everything from afar. From what you have told me, he seems like a decent person after all. The only reason you are not willing to get into anything is because you have commitment issues after what happened with Nick which was neither of yours fault and you think it's too early."

"Kyles Kyles, take a breather. I think you are just over analyzing a simple situation here. This isn't like one of your abstract paintings where you analyze every brushstroke to come up with hidden messages from the picture. This is real life, Simple and Objective. What you see, is what you get."

"Shut up Ginna. I am just trying to remind you that you can't have control over everything that happens with you and you can't certainly delay acknowledging your feelings just because you don't want to deal with them. You are just playing safe because you had been hurt before."
