Chapter 13: Aftermath

Start from the beginning

After the class got over, Mia said she would like to get started with the assignments right away in the library. It was so unlike her since she would always hang out with Cole, Adrian and a few of their friends right after class while the rest of us would do our homework and assignments in the library. I was surprised to see that Leslie had joined Cole after class today. She was heading to the cafetaria with Adrian and Cole. The sudden change in the wind made Andy suspicious. I told him we would discuss about it afterwards. We went to the library and started working on our assignments. We had a paper due by Wednesday. By noon I was too hungry to go on without lunch so we took a break and stopped by the canteen.

I ordered some soup and barbecue rice for lunch today. Andy was too lazy to think of something else so he just reproduced my order. Mia stood at the other counter to get her pasta salad.

We waited for our orders together and I ran him through the events of yesterday between Mia and Cole. He asked me why I left so early with Adrian and we discussed about the hangover we were both equally responsible for. I lied to him about not feeling well and asking Adrian to drop me home.

"I am never ever getting drunk again." I announced.

"Me too.", he agreed.

"When did you reach home?"

"At 3, I guess."

"I am wondering why Leslie didn't join us today. I remember the three of us dancing together before I disappeared to the ladies' room and never came back. Is she pissed at me?"

"I don't know."

"How come you don't know? You were together all the time after I left and today, she kind of ignored us. Pardon me if I am wrong but did something happen between the both of you?"

"No nothing happened. We just danced together and I dropped her at home." He said.

"Your story doesn't add up. Leslie was fine with us before the party and now she's hanging out with Cole after class. It doesn't take an expert to figure out something happened between the two of you otherwise she would be here with us." I concluded.

Andy remained silent confirming my suspicions.

"Look Andy if you don't want to tell, it's okay. Just tell me if you need something okay?"

"If I tell you, you promise we aren't speaking of it ever again."

"Andy you know me, I don't like to pry. Tell me only if you really want to otherwise it's okay. I won't force you and we won't definitely be talking about it again."

Finally, he confided.

"After we got drunk and Leslie joined us for dance, you disappeared. So Leslie and I danced for a while and left along with Mia and Cole. I dropped her at home and we kind of kissed in the cab. She called me up in the morning to meet up. We met and she told me that last night was a mistake. She was drunk and also upset about something and that kiss was just a moment of weakness."

"That's actually good you know. She made everything clear before things went any further and either of you got hurt."

"Yes. I respect her for coming out to me like that. There aren't any hard feelings involved. We'll get over it in a few days."

"Good now let's collect our order. The soup will get cold."

It was just the first week and our newfound group was surrounded by drama. I hated when friends had to split up because of shit between two people. I couldn't do anything about it except be positive that we would be back together.

Over the next week I was swamped into work owing to the amount of submissions we had. The group dynamics weren't getting any better. However, I made it a point to not let my friendship with Andy and Mia come in way of my friendship with the others. I had a talk with Leslie about how what had happened between her and Andy and it wouldn't bother her friendship with Mia and me. Adrian and I would trade places sometimes and I would sit with Cole and Leslie while he sat with Mia and Andy. We didn't want our circle to break.
