We were still in primary school back then, there was nothing particularly different about you compared to the rest of our classmates. A bright child, eager to learn, playful and just... normal.

And then you just disappeared, vanished from existence. No one questioned, no one noticed, no one cared... I also didn't asked but it wasn't because I didn't care, it was because I was scared to find out the answer. I didn't want to feel crazy, being the only one who cares.

Four years has passed before you appeared in my life again.

This was the beginning of our story. No that's not right.
This was the beginning of my story. Not hers-
Ours comes later.

I was greeted by those enchanting eyes, nothing could escape them. Those eyes that change unpredictably, bright or hazy, they were breathtaking.

Your features were still immature but something about your expression bothers me. They were filled with indifference, unbothered by everything around.

You always looked unsatisfied at grades that normal kids would be grateful to achieve. Whenever grades for exams are posted you would just glare at them. At first, I thought you were upset that you didn't get placed a desirable rank, but it became clear, that wasn't the case.

This will happen every time grades are posted, the way you looked at them send chi down my spine. The murderous glint in your eyes and the way you clench your teeth. It was as if you were threatening to bury someone.

After scrutinizing over the ranks, your features relax as you calm yourself down with a much-needed sigh.

Out of the corner of your eye, you will never fail to spot and turn to greet me with an ominous smile. I must say I was greatly disturbed as you walked away.

What did I do to make you put a death flag on me? Was the question that often pass through my mind countless times whenever you take the time to glare or glance at me. I was glad to know that no one was hurt that day.

This routine continued for the remainder of our primary school life. It was unsettling at first but like anything weird one would get used to these antics if exposed to it long enough.

On the final exam that we took to decide our junior high life was when you finally confronted me.

"What do you think of when you see this board?" She asks staring at the first and second places.

I stayed silent. What could I have said to her? That I want her spot at the top. I can't possibly tell her that right?

"What school do you plan to go to?" She didn't seem bothered at all by my unwillingness to answer.

"Kunugigaoka."

"Hm..." She pondered over my answer for a while before nodding thoughtfully. "Maybe I'll see you there." She murmurs mysteriously.

"What?" Did I hear that wrong?

"It might be fun to have a familiar face around, instead of the pesky flies you see everyday." She replies.

Did you just call your classmates 'flies'?

"why..." am I part of the reason you're going?

She stared for a while before her eyes fluttered away from me, also confused by what she just said. "It's because you are the only one who seriously chased after me." Giving me the same ominous smile, she walked away. "Come and reach my level, won't you? It's lonely up here..."

Over the summer you seem to have just changed. You still had that trademark indifference but it was just different in junior high.

You looked down on everything, with those piercing eyes, nothing could be placed within them. I didn't bother you because I see no need.
