Jasper's POV

As I ran through my village, Blue Glass, people bowed down to me in a mixture of admiration and fear. It was a gesture that constantly followed me, a gesture that I had earned. I was known amongst my people for the fact that I had little control over my wolf, so any form of strong emotion could very well cause me to shift, perhaps costing someone thier life. Therefore, they bent over backwards in an attempt to please me, something that made me smirk.

Before I dealt with the rogue, I stopped off at my house. It was a nice little place which had been built especially for me. I hadn't wanted anything bigger; it held everything that I needed as it was.

Stalking to the back of the house, I shifted. I kept the door unlocked for this exact purpose- so I could enter after a shift.

Once upside, I jogged up to my room where I threw on some clothes and slipped the familiar moonstone ring onto my middle finger. It had been a gift from the Wise Woman of a neighbouring pack, the Kandel Pack, who had once upon been our allies. A lot had changed since then, I thought with a scowl, and felt the ring soothe me slightly. The ring helped to ground me when I felt that I was about to shift. It didn't stop the Change completely, it simply tuned down my emotions slightly so that I could think straight. It allowed me to be rational through my rage, a soothing presence that made me slightly more man than wolf.

Shaking in anticipation, I set off to the cells.

I could smell the rogue before I saw her. She reaked of filth and blood. It was an unbearable concoction that made my nose wrinkle up in disgust.

The girl looked to be around sixteen. It was hard to tell whether that was an accurate estimate because dirt caked her face, making her features almost unrecognisable. Really, the only detail that revealed her gender was the femininity of her shape. It isn't a bad shape, either, I thought with a smirk.

"What's your name?" I asked her, folding my arms over my chest.

"Go to hell." She said lazily, her voice filled with hatred.

I tutted, raising an eyebrow. "Now that's not very nice." My tone was light and conversational. "So, little girl, would you like to tell me why you trespassed on my territory?" As I asked the question, I opened her cell, making sure that my eyes held the threat of what would happen if she tried anything.

"No. I don't think that I would." She told me, her voice strangely calm after her outburst. There was a bizarre smile on her face. "So you're the famous Alpha Jasper, huh? Your reputation becomes you." She made a mocking sound with her teeth, and I felt my wolf's rage. "Although I did expect a little more muscle."

Rage filled me and I clenched my fists, drawing on the ring's soothing power. A moment later, I was slightly calmer.

"Maybe you'd like to wash your eyes of all that dirt and take a closer look. I've heard that blood is a good alternative to water." I licked my smirking lips. "It cleans you up pretty quick."

Although my voice had an almost playful lilt to it, my threat rang clear and I saw fear flash through her eyes. It was gone a moment later.

"What do you want?" She hissed, inching backwards against the wall.

"I already told you that, little girl. And your time's running out." I glanced at the watch on my wrist for effect, and took a step closer. Her face paled. "Why did you trespass onto my territory?"

The ring's calming presence was beginning to fade, as was my patience. I was stunned that it had even lasted this long.

"Screw you!" She shrieked, beginning to tremble.

I cocked my head at her. "If you even think about changing, I will snap your wolf's neck without a second thought. Understood?"

Her eyes were filled with pure hatred and she ignored me, continuing to shake.

"Suicidal, are we?" I asked, smirking as the rogue changed into her wolf form, growling at me. My wolf was begging to take over, and it was painful to stop him. But I did. This was a kill that I wanted to do as a man.

The small grey stood there for a long time, glaring, and I pulled my hands up, observing my nails in a show of boredom. Then she charged, something that I had been expecting. I was already in the right position, and as soon as she came close enough, I snapped her neck as I'd warned. She fell to the floor lifelessly, and I sighed. "I didn't want to do that," I told her, shaking my head. "But you were being stubborn, and I lost my patience." I gave her one last cursory glance, then ordered for the guards to clean up the mess.

As I left the cells, I caught sight of Caspian and gestured for him to come over. He did, nodding his head at me in respect.

"Is everything alright?" He asked, carefully.

I nodded. "The rogue has been taken care of."

"When you say taken care of-"

"I mean nada. Gone. Dead." I smirked humourlessly. "Case closed. You may leave."

Slightly baffled, he did as I said and I ran into the forest, my body trembling. I couldn't control my wolf anymore; he needed to feel the forest floor, feel the freedom of the trees.

We ran at a high speed in no particular direction until I felt my wolf's instincts take over, and our movement gained purpose. We ran for around an hour before I felt my wolf slow down, gradually coming to a stop. The sun had disappeared by the time we arrived at my wolf's destination.

Peeking through the trees, I spotted two shapes sitting around a fire. A girl and a boy. The girl was talking, and I would have recognised the voice anywhere. It was the girl from this morning, the one who had thought my life was in danger. A feeling that felt something like jealousy entered me as I wondered who the man was sat bside her. Probably her boyfriend. I mean, she was beautiful- she probably had guys chasing after her all the time. That feeling, the one like jealousy, entered me again, and I growled. Then my ears perked up to listen to what the girl was saying.
