A figure rushed past her, cool air from their swift movement washed over her. Though dark, she caught a glimpse of the long cloak they wore. They carried a light with them―a lantern—that helped [Y/N] make out their outline. A bag hung loose on their shoulders and the hood hung low over their face.
They didn't make it far, stopping about ten feet away from [Y/N]. From behind, she could see their shoulders tense as though they heard something that she didn't. The stranger whirled around, startling her. Yet, nothing left their mouth. A free hand to pull the hood of the cloak down. [Y/N]'s eyes widened and she could no longer pretend to be invisible as a gasp left her mouth louder than she intended it to.
It was a young girl with [H/C] hair. The girl's [E/C] eyes scanned the darkness—never once landing on [Y/N] before pulling her hood over head once again and running off in the original direction from before.
And just like that, [Y/N] gasped again, stumbling backwards into the grass. This time when she opened her eyes, she was back on the forest floor. The loose strands from before decided to fall in front of her face again. She allowed it because she noticed the color of them. It was the same as the girl's from—whatever she just saw.
Pushing herself onto her knees, she grabbed the cloak sprawled on the ground. It looked similar to one she saw the girl wearing, but she wasn't too sure. Under the cloth was a burgundy bag and an empty lantern. A bow and quiver sat not too far away. [Y/N] didn't need to be a scientist for how quickly she connected the dots.
The stranger was so familiar because the stranger was her.
There wasn't much in the bag. [Y/N] emptied the contents to try to find anything to assist her lack of memory. The only thing in the back was a piece of fruit, one change of clothes, and a brown pouch filled with gold coins. It seemed like she didn't have much time to pack but she sure did have a lot of money to spend. At the bottom of the bag was the most surprising item.
The cover was slick black with no writing on it, so she couldn't even tell if it actually belonged to her or not. She doubted she would've stolen it, but who knows what kind of person she was before she woke up.
She carefully pulled off the cover to reveal a short, golden blade. A dagger. The blade looked as though it was recently sharpened. It was shiny enough for her to see her reflection in. She lined it up with her eyes. [E/C], she thought.
She slid the cover back onto the sword and back into the bag along with the other contents that belonged in it then threw the cloak over her shoulders, covering her bag and red clothes. Not sure where to head first, she followed the faint sound of crashing waves until she reached a shore.
Exhaling at the feeling of the sand mushing underneath her shoes, she definitely enjoyed it more than the crushing leaves of the forest. She didn't know how long she walked along the shore but it proved to be successful when she came across a near distant figure pulling a boat onto the shore.
Relieved to see another living, breathing person, she hastily made her way to the man.
"Pardon me," she said, before stopping a few feet away. He didn't answer her. He either was purposefully ignoring her or didn't hear her. She decided to go with the latter but was still upset she had to repeat herself. She frowned. "Pardon me."
Startled, he cursed, the rope in his hands nearly slipped from his fingers. His head snapped toward her, his face was flushed.
That's when she realized he was much younger than she thought. She didn't mean to startle him, but at that point, she didn't care. All she wanted was a roof over her head, and now she was beginning to grow impatient.
