CHAPTER TWELVE!

❝ PROMISE ❞

SHE LEFT BEFORE THE SUN ROSE. Between Jeong Jeong's odd words and her strange dream-but-not-a-dream, she'd had enough of tailing the Avatar. Though then, she was at a loss of what to do. Should she just wonder like a lost dog? How long would it be until the Fire Nation found her? Does she want to be found?

Those and many other questions raced through her mind as she aimlessly walked through another forest. Once midday hit, exhaustion ran through her body. She'd been walking for hours straight trying to make sense of literally anything. She looked at the sky, shielding her eyes with one hand from the Sun, wondering if Universe the Kid could see her now, drifting throughout the world as though she had no purpose anymore.

Weird dreams or odd memories hadn't come for a suspiciously long time. She was able to drift through a few villages and even find temporary shelter. And for a little while, she felt normal.

Night fell again and she'd forgotten to eat dinner, studying her map on where to head next. After eating a bit of fruit left in her bag, she moved to grab her bow and quiver when she was met with a pain in her forehead, much worse than she'd ever felt. A hiss left her lips and she fell to the ground. Instead of the floor, her palms met carpet.

She looked up at the room she was in. It was cozy but elegantly decorated. Red tapestries lined with gold hung from many corners of it. She heard muffled voices. Pushing herself onto her feet, she followed the sound out the open door to her left on the back porch of a house.

Down the steps into the well tended garden and over the smooth stoned path, she found herself under a veranda in the middle of the backyard. A table was exposed and there saw two girls.

She immediately recognized her younger self. She was older than in her last memory. Now she had to be roughly Katara's age. The girl across from her, though, was too familiar for her to be struggling to come up with a name. The two girls looked alike—the other was older by what couldn't be more than three years.
