CHAPTER THIRTEEN!

❝ ALLIANCE ❞

THANKS TO XIAN, [Y/N] was able to plan on leaving Omashu with the resistance group the waitress heard about. Belongings on her person, she slipped through the window of her motel room, leaving a few coins on her desk and her room as clean as it could be.

Fire Nation soldiers would be patrolling the streets so she opted to slide through alleyways until she could get a glimpse of the group. A small smile adorned her face in triumph, when exactly what she was waiting for appeared.

There were a few stragglers trailing behind the larger group. Because of the tricks of the night, [Y/N] was able to blend in with them and replicate the way they staggered along. She didn't question the strange movements for it didn't cause any alarm from the guards. The large hood of the cloak caused one of the guards to eye her suspiciously but he soon backed away in disgust when she coughed loudly.

She had gotten about a minute of walking away when the large, rock gates of Omashu slammed shut—the loud rumbling humming against the promontory. Taking this as a sign to behave normally, she followed the more condensed group ahead of her.

They walked clear off the long winding path up to the city and about fifteen minutes away from there. Stopping in a mostly flat area, the cluster of citizens began to disperse and create smaller groups where they set up camp for the night. It was a good distance from the city. Though dark, not a single piece of the Omashu mountain could be seen from there.

It wasn't hard to spot the Avatar and his friends. The outline of the large bison was unmissable, even in the dark night. The light of their campfire seemed to illuminate the blue arrows tattooed onto his skin. The three of them were talking about something in which [Y/N] couldn't hear from her distance.

There wasn't a clear and correct way she could think of to approach them, so she didn't hesitate walking up to them. With the Avatar in the middle and the other ones on either side of him, he—surprisingly—wasn't the first to see her approach them.

"Hello," she said, catching the attention of the girl and Avatar. At first, she realized Katara and Aang watched her confused because of the hood still over her head, the shadow covering most of her facial features. She could also feel the narrowed eyes of Sokka on her. Thus, she pulled down her hood, hoping they'd recognize her.

All three of their expressions switched to surprise then recognition. She bowed respectfully, mostly to the Avatar.

"It's you!" Katara exclaimed as she came back up. "From the festival!"

So they did remember her. Good.

"Are you following us now?" Sokka asked suspiciously, all surprise gone from his face.

She crossed her arms. "I've been staying in Omashu for weeks. I should be asking you that."

He didn't retort but his frown deepened like he wanted to. She swallowed the logic behind his words. The third time she'd ran into the Avatar, either she was insanely lucky or somehow had a tracking device on him (and it wasn't the latter). She fought the urge to glance up at the night sky.

"What are you doing here?" Katara asked.

"Yeah, last time you disappeared without a warning." Aang said.

"I was staying low in Omashu for a while," she gestured to her new green robes, "it was safe until the Fire Nation took over."

"And you didn't help them?" Sokka asked, earning a hard nudge from his sister. "What? She's Fire Nation!"

"No, I didn't help them." [Y/N] said. "In fact, I'd like to propose an offer—I want to join you."

    "Join us?" Aang asked.

"On your mission," she added. "You're going to defeat the Fire Lord, right? I can offer aid." Come to think of it, she really had nothing to offer. She wasn't a bender and she could barely use her bow. So, she settled with, "I'm a Seer."

This gauged a reaction from all three of them.

"Very funny." Sokka said with a roll of his eyes. "Seers don't exist."

"What Sokka means to say is—" Katara chimed in, "Seers are just myths."

[Y/N] blinked, unable to think of a response and prove herself. She was rather new to this Seer stuff, too, after all. "Uh," she said, "don't you wonder why we keep running into each other?"

"Because you're stalking us?" Sokka grumbled loud enough for everyone to hear. Another nudge.

"Y'know, Monk Gyatso did say that Seers had strong connections to their Avatars," Aang spoke up, finger on his chin. His gaze shifted back to [Y/N], his face showing more awe than skepticism. "Are you really a Seer?"

[Y/N] nodded, fearing if she spoke then it'd work against her rather than for.

"Prove it!" Sokka interjected. "What will I eat for lunch tomorrow?"

It was [Y/N]'s turn to roll her eyes. "It doesn't work like that, I'm not a psychic. But—" she stopped herself, debating if she should even tell them this. Though, if she wanted to earn their trust, her best option was to. "My most recent vision was of a twister, if that helps."

What she hadn't told them was hours before now when she'd laid down for a bit of rest before leaving Omashu, her dream started with her in the eye of a tornado—the calmest part of it all. It was quiet, yet her hair slightly shook with the wind of the disaster as though it was just a small breeze.

A boom. An explosion in the distance. A few seconds passed of the whirling wind and it dropped again. But much closer.

Fewer seconds passed and it dropped again. So close that it shook the ground, her feet slipped from under her. The tornado dissipated.

If she blinked, she would've missed it. Earth, air, water, and fire hitting the ground in front of her at the same time. The impact was so big, she'd woken up with a gasp, nearly catapulting herself out of her cheaply made motel bed. Sweat beat down her face.

It was another vision she'd keep to herself.
