SAD BIRDS SING TOO

Start from the beginning

"So, live Mr.Rossi. Don't just exist." She smiled at him as the frown on his face stayed on his lips.

"I just don't have anything to live for, so even existing in itself is rare to me." Rafael expressed to her as Ravenna smiled at his thought.

"One day you'll find something or someone who you would grow the hunger to live for." His eyes wandered away as she finished her sentence which was an indication he wasn't ready to talk about this something or someone just yet.

"Well Mr.Rossi why don't you get comfortable in the living room. Would you like some tea or coffee?" Ravenna offered as he admired the art decorated on her wall.

"Vanilla tea if you carry some." He told her before heading over to the seating arrangement in the living room.

Ravenna nodded before heading to the kitchen that was full of the delicious aroma of the peanut butter cupcakes baking in the oven. She quickly whipped up his choice of tea before heading back towards the living room.

When she entered the small room, he was sitting in the corner chair in front of the balcony where she had placed one of the bird feeders. The variety of birds were chirping away at their fair amount of food outside.

The clouds in the sky grew grey as the day had passed by eventually followed by the light trickle of rain that showered the small region.

"Mr.Rossi." Ravenna called out as he pulled his gaze away from the wet glass to her holding the steaming cup of vanilla.

"Here's your cup of tea and I'll be right back after whipping up the frosting for the cupcakes in the oven." He nodded without saying anything as she handed him the cup of tea. He returned back to the view playing in front of him while blowing the steam off the surface of the cup.

"Do you think the birds get sad when it rains?" He asked as he continued to look at the birds feeding of the food.

"What makes you think that?" Ravenna asked smiling, mesmerized by his sudden question.

"I don't know I guess rain just makes everything seem gloomy. I mean just look at the sky that is now painted grey." Ravenna smiled as he explained his analysis to her.

"Well even the most sad birds sing too as some say. The rainbow always comes to paint the grays in the sky and old couples dance in the rain as if there is not tomorrow." She explained the happy side of the story as he continued to look at the view, but now with a gentle smile on his face. Ravenna happily walked out of the room as she knew he had gotten a reason to look at the positive side of the rainy day.

The oven beeped as the timer came to the end for the cakes baking in the heat. She quickly placed on her oven mittens and pulled out the beautifully baked sponges. Ravenna placed the still seeping hot cakes on the cooling mat before continuing the process of making the classic cream to decorate the sponges with.

Topping the last cupcake with the peanut butter chips, she pulled away clapping happily at the heavenly baked sweets. Ravenna quickly placed the finished cakes into the baby pink box that matched the carnations she had picked out from the flower shop earlier.

She was beaming to see the reaction of the old man. He would probably shower her with his gentle smiles that made him look like a 3 year old man. As she noticed the extra frosting in the bowl she did the quick work of dipping her finger into the bowl to her mouth.

She instantly moaned at the fluffy goodness, but instantly flinched as she heard someone clear her throat behind her. Ravenna quickly turned around to see him standing with the empty cup. He walked over to the sink before placing the cup into it.

"Is there a special occasion?" He asked as he eyed the carnations and cupcakes.

"Oh yeah it's for one of my previous patient." Ravenna explained as she saw the direction he was looking in. She looked at him confused as he his face expression changed to one that referred that he was angry.

"Is there something wrong?" She asked as he continued to look at the carnations.

"I thought you only gave me flowers." Rafael told her the problem as she stood there awestruck. Why would he say something like that?

"Mr.Rossi it's one of my old grandpas that loves to be treated on his birthday. He doesn't have any of his own kids, so I take it as my job to put a smile on the old man's face." Ravenna didn't know why he was so concerned about her gifting another man flowers. To be honest he was the first she had given flowers to without having a special occasion.

"Okay." He whispered which was different from his usual stiff voice that managed to set of goosebumps.

"Well I want a cupcake too or are you going to leave me hanging here until my birthday?" He expressed as she looked at him shocked. Is he pouting like a kid?
