"Ginna, can we talk for a sec?", he asked.
I was anticipating this. I knew he wanted to talk so I was purposely avoiding it. I guess there's no way out of it now.
"Sure", I agreed though I wasn't sure at all.
We went in his room. Thankfully he did not close the door.
"Ginna, I wanted to apologize for that incident at school. I know it has been years but I had crossed a line. I feel so sorry about it. Can we be friends again? Tell me how can I make it up to you."
I sort of knew this was coming. But to hear it in person felt really nice.
"Adrian, I have already forgiven you for the journal incident. I am over it. You don't need to apologize anymore."
"Really? Then why are you avoiding me?"
"I am not avoiding you Adrian, we just met like two days ago, remember?"
"Then why aren't you talking to me like you talk to everyone else. It seems you are still holding something against me."
"I am just trying to process this new dynamic Adrian. Last time I remember, you weren't the person you are today. I don't exactly have the most favorable image of you. It takes time to erase the last image and create a new one if I may."
"I understand Ginna, but I promise you I am not that person anymore. I may not be the most noble person even now, but I am definitely not that asshole you once had as your desk partner."
I smiled at the reminisce of those days. Of course, now that you are this really dashing football player. Oops.
"Okay Adrian, I'll try my best to create a new image of you."
"That's all I can ask for."
"Can I ask you how did you ended up in Chicago?" I changed the topic.
He gave me a tight smile before answering.
"I ran away."
I saw Andy heading our way to check on us. He was amused to catch us together in Adrian's room, judging by the questioning glare fixated on me.
"You were missing for so long I thought your stomach was upset.", he joked.
"My bowel movements are just fine Andy."
"Let's go now, it's dinner time already."
"After you sir."
Andy joined me during our walk back home.
"So, all good with Adrian? What did he want?"
"He wanted to apologize for that incident." Andy didn't have to be reminded of the journal incident. He was in there too.
"So what did you say?"
"I said that I had already forgiven him."
"Ofcourse as if you were going to let something that happened three years ago hang along till now."
"He wants to be friends."
"Sounds reasonable. But do you think it's a good idea?"
"It is. I said I will try my best to change his image in my mind."
"Come to think of it, if I hadn't known him before, I would have liked him now. I mean this Adrian definitely isn't the cold guy we went to school with." Andy spoke his mind.
"Exactly, even I am having a hard time accepting the shift in his entire personality." I let that conversation end there.
We changed the subject to Mia and Cole's flirting for the rest of the walk.
