Based on the Taylor Swift song 'Love Story'. Song above if you want to listen to it.

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes and the flashback starts

Remus wasn't ready for this. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, ignoring the fearful image of himself in the mirror.

I'm standin' there
On a balcony in summer air

It had been the hottest day in summer when they had the masquerade party. Remus was standing on his little balcony, letting the sea breeze wash over his face.

"Remus! Father says we need to be down in the ballroom!" Roman had yelled.

Remus sighed and grabbed his mask. It was green with black swirls and feathers and extremely uncomfortable.

"Coming Roman!"

See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns
See you make your way through the crowd
And say, "Hello"

Remus had been bored out of his mind. He and his brother were meeting countless princesses, princes, dukes, duchesses and everything in between in the hopes that they would find a bride or a husband. Roman had already found a man and had gone off to a secluded area to 'talk'. Remus sighed when a flash of pale yellow caught his eye through the sea of darkly coloured ball gowns. It was a man. He had a pale-yellow mask over half of his face and his suit was mainly black with yellow highlights. Remus thought he was exceedingly handsome. The man caught Remus staring at him and smirked, walking towards Remus.

"Hello." He said softly, grinning as a slow blush spread across Remus' face.

Little did I know
That you were Romeo, you were throwin' pebbles
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet"
And I was cryin' on the staircase
Beggin' you, "Please don't go,"

They had started talking and walked out to the garden. The man, he had told Remus his name was Janus, picked up some pebbles and started throwing them over the garden wall. Remus was talking so much about something that he didn't even notice Janus reaching for his own mask and undoing the ribbon holding it on. Remus gasped. Half of Janus' face was burnt and covered in scaring.

"That's amazing." Remus breathed. Janus looked over to Remus sharply.

"You, you don't think it's freakish or hideous?" He had asked, barely containing the hope in his voice.

"No. It's beautiful."

Janus had blushed at what Remus said but, before either of them could do or say anything more, Remus' father had come around the corner. When he spotted Janus' half face, he was horrified.

"Get away from my son, you monster!" He had yelled. Janus had sighed, ignoring the tears welling up in both his and Remus' eyes, and stood up to leave. Remus grabbed his sleeve.

"Please don't go." He whispered, tears spilling down his cheeks.

And I said
Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"

Janus had looked over to Remus' father before grabbing Remus' hand and pulling him away over to the beach.

They had run and hid in a cave. Remus loved it. He insisted that Janus and he play a game.

"You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess!" He had garbled excitedly.
